First of all, nothing "[slipped] backwards" in November. Our rights are exactly the same now as they were before and I imagine they will be for the next four years or more. It shouldn't surprise you that there are people who don't agree with our sexuality or lifestyle. With ~330 million people in the States from a plethora of backgrounds and cultures, it should be expected that not everyone will agree.
Second, my issue wasn't with this showing up in the game or suggesting the game was announcing it; my issue was that the OP felt it was "newsworthy" as if the presence of a gay character needs to be announced as something super special. It isn't. We are normal and the presence of a gay character should be treated as normal--not something to celebrate. "Positive pressure," as you call it, just makes the other side more hardened against us ("Why do they have to shove this in our faces?!"). There's a gay character in Elite. Cool, moving on.
We can disagree on politics, there's nothing wrong with that. I'll admit that the phrase "slipped backwards" was partisan rhetoric. But our rights aren't the same, as of Tuesday. The current administration has revoked Executive Order 13673. It may be a small step, but it isn't a good one.
I guess we have different standards for announcing or shoving content in people's faces. The OP posted something innocuous that they appreciated; it wasn't even Frontier publicizing the info. That isn't inflammatory. By "positive pressure," all I meant was we should let Frontier know that we appreciate these diverse bios, even it's a small thing or accident. How is a single thread saying thanks going to harden people against us? Should we never mention that someone has a same-sex spouse or mention that ME:A lets you romance who you want?
Too true. Same thing happens with Religion and other Political items.
It's just a female pilot with a wife! Why is pointing that out in a casual, tepidly positive way bad?
