About current game design...

I liked the first season...


But the second season with the recent updates made me stop playing


The 2.0 was exciting in the early hours, and only. Nothing much to do on the surface of the planets.


2.1 I played enough ... but until they got the "balancing" updates.


I "re-engineered" several weapons and modules because the meta changed all the time. And keep changing without stopping!


And with every change, it was more and more grinding.


Also, in 1.x we did not have so many Instantiation problems.


Currently, it is impossible to play in wing... The game experience fell a lot from 1.x to 2.x


And about game design decisions???


They are making the game more and more boring!


They listen too much who talking on reddit and the forum. But that's a minimal part of the players.


FDev should take into account statistical data rather than opinions here or in the forum.


FDev should take more into account statistical data.


Want an example?


Until today the default commands to play with mouse and keyboard is dysfunctional.


The first thing someone who starts playing is to change the mouse to yaw instead of roll.


Does FDev have no such data? Do not they have game metrics themselves?

Why is this happening?


In my opinion it's because of poor game design decisions and making choices based on who is expressed on reddit or forum.


Listen to the entire base of players through ingame statistics and listen less to hardcore players who participate in reddit and forum.


And start developing a more fun and less boring game.


... And in your opinion? Why does the active player base not grow?

Mouse should be Pitch and roll! Yaw on the mouse is a waste of control. Played with Pitch and Roll on my mouse until I saved up for my HOTAS, only way to play!

No wonder you are having a bad time of things!

Most people who play FPS and other games are used to using mouse for "looking up/down and left/right". For me personally the pitch and yaw on the mouse seems the most natural.
Also you aim by pitching and yawing, not pitching and rolling, so it's logical to have both "aiming axes" on the mouse.
At least for me.

That simply is not true.
Engineering was made a lot less grindy due to several changes like... more mats per item and no more commodity schlepping.

Nothing much to do on the surface of the planets.
Well, these are mostly lifeless planets. What do you expect?
One might even argue that there is too much going on on these planets and one would be right.

Also this is a game in the midst of development. Expect more.
I want more too. Everybody wants more.

Statistical data only become meaningful after interpretation.
It is very, very easy to draw wrong conclusions from statistical data.

I get the feeling that most people complaining would be massively upset if the game were rolled back to 1.0

"the meta keeps changing, grinding these engineers is no fun!"

I agree, now it seems poor design, but maybe there is a reason for that, to make first things first to be able create major features later.
Till end of the year we will have pretty clear picture where this game is heading with 2.4, 3.0 and beyond so i wouldn't want to jump in conclusions.
Even "unknown trailer" seems promising, i just hope it isn't pure cutscenes like so far.

Can't you simply forum search before posting exact same thing over and over and over again expecting different response each time ?

I think there's a major update due. It's always the same around these times. And yeah, these really need compiling into 1 big thread.

No wonder you are having a bad time of things!

I use HOTAS for flying and mouse for sniping long distance... Pitch and Yaw on the mouse is most natural... I have Roll on the pedals (alternative roll control on twist axis for when I want to sit with my feet up.
 
If you think instancing was better in 1.x you must be either having local issues or viewing things through rose tinted glasses. Things are much better now with regards to instancing. Sure, still issues, but compared with how things were.... seriously better.

Also, if you enjoyed the stuff in 1.0 more, that's ok, that content is still there.

As for the doom, there is another active thread where you can join in with the doom chanting, although those steam numbers it turns out are actually not bad at all, if anything, pretty decent.
