ED Steamcharts "4,000" active players. Pathetic

Tell us how he's misrepresenting data then, genius.

I see 900k+ owners, 90% of them haven't played the game since Horizon release. I fail to see how that's misrepresentation of data when the info is taken from the steam API.

Or some of that 90% no longer use Steam to launch ED ...

Hay JuntiFour How is my vote counted if I don't use steam on my PC, MAC or if I am using Xbox or PS4? IF you can answer that then talk?

I use steam, why would I need the same client to launch the same game by re-downloading the same launcher from the frontier store.

Xbox + PS4 (consoles) are irrelevant in this discussion. Y'all not even sharing the same server, we are talking about the PC version. The main source of population and revenue for Frontier is the PC version.

Carebears/Elite white knights like alternative facts, so they'll use dank words like "misrepresentation", "hypothesis" or "extrapolation" to have a better argument, too bad it doesn't make it any stronger. Sometime I imagine them with a google dictionary next to them.

If you require a dictionary to use words like 'extrapolate' fine but I wouldn't be particularly proud of the fact. Nor would I project my ignorance onto others. I won't apologise for the fact that after a reasonable education and 45 years of life I have a decent vocabulary.

I've assumed here that your post was referencing mine since you specifically referred to a word I used, despite the fact that only the most vehement detractor from the game would consider my own moderate views on it as those of a carebear or white knight. I am in fact neither, as even a cursory glance at my post history would confirm. I'd suggest that in future you choose your targets a little more carefully.

Because I already have steam running and it provides a single place to manage most of my games.

And Steam is quite a bit more than a launcher...

I agree, I was just about to say that, it's far more convenient to use steam. You also get automatic updates. Some players don't like steam, fine, no big deal. Point is, people don't use steam to buy a single product only to drop that said game and switch to a different launcher that does less for them.

I don't remember pointing my finger at you, did I hit a nerve.

Poor little creature.

So because you feel that way everybody does?

It really isn't ... This thread is about the amount of players playing ED not the amount Playing on Steam

I'm always kind of amazed at how unaware of Steam or outright anti-Steam this forum is. It shows the forums detachment from the larger PC gaming community.

It's nothing to do with being "unaware" or "anti-steam" .. it's to do with using Steam stats as fact or a sign that ED is dying for a game that can easily be played without ever using Steam

It really is, but you can't really blame them for that. Hell, most of the users here don't even take 2 secs to ask themselves why people use steam in the first place which is probably the most obvious answer.

I really feel like a majority of the older gamers here are disconnected from the reality or the rest of the gaming industry.

More assumptions.

FWIW my Steam account dates back to 2004. God knows how many games I have on there.

A Steam purchase is less profit to the developer, not that I begrudge people buying on Steam, it's all good. But given a choice I think a non-Steam purchase is preferable, but yes Gaben needs the moneys too.

Also did you know that Steam ED takes up 100% more drive space than the non-Steam version.

Yeah, they've definitely built up a bit of an echo chamber here. It is sad to see people wall themselves off, but I guess that is their choice in the end.

Given the constant use of a patronizing tone I'll also agree with the "older games" bit. As soon as any criticism of Elite or Frontier is seen there is a contingent of Forum users that pop into Dad mode and respond with "Back in my day I had to haul fish up hill both ways. It builds character!".

Rubbish. Folks could return to play the main game through Steam any time they like.
It was true for a long time until FD sorted out Steam launching issues for ED:Horizons, since then the Steam version of ED's launcher offers the same functionality as the standalone version (just without the Steam overlay integration).

The point I believe BitStorm was making though is perfectly valid... why would they if they do not have to?

At least some games are known to have major issues with the Steam overlay (ESO being one of them). While this is not true of ED, some people claim to gain a major performance improvement from not running the Steam client.

Dude.

I think people are just saying Steam stats aren't a good measure.

No need to go all melodramatic.

We are not the ones proclaiming "the death of ED" here.

And where have I said that?

If you're going to be rude and butt into a conversion the least you can do is get up to speed on it.

That's simply not true, the steam version of the game is the same size as the one from the Frontier store. I use the steam launcher on my desktop and the Frontier launcher for my laptop. They are both the same in size and the same game.

That's why I used "older gamer", I think it bolster my argument when you have a manchild using "45 years of education" as an excuse and reminder for their intellectual capabilities.

As if it will make a difference in this debate.
