THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I don't think there is anything to find yet.

I would say that we have a few possible systems:

- Sol: Phaethon and Charon.
- Styx: River entrance the underworld(Styx is also in Sol in RL, but not in ED).
- Merope: Home of Phaethon. Does also have a few brown dwarfs, Phaethon was also known as the 'god of the failed Sun'.
- A bunch of Eridanus systems with Achenar as the last on the path.

The Salome event is scheduled to start 18:00 29th April, and I don't think anything for that event will be put into place until then. However we had Salome apparently leading people to HIP21484 planet 3 & someone reported sounds of some form of beacon near coordinates: -47.4839 and -134.9203.

With the recent listening post find of an alarming message (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/300054-Alien-archeology-and-other-mysteries-Thread-9-The-Canonn?p=5347542&viewfull=1#post5347542 *) I think it might be worth doing a search on planet 3, and possibly also Merope 5C (near centre of the large crater with the central peak) for gravitational anomalies since both locations have reports of what may be a strange radio signal but with nothing visible. We never tried to search for gravitational anomalies (as far as I remember the Canonn threads).

* I think that message was found on Col 285 Sector BG-O d6-93. AB 1 d (-5.836074,117.3792). Did anybody check there for the signal & gravitational anomaly?

Can radio signals be triangulated on-site to narrow down the anomaly search area? Don't remember any mention of this capability.

Drew said several months ago, that a Sol permit would become a useful thing to have. His post implied it would be sooner rather than later, but has anything else happened in Sol in the interim?

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=4365366&viewfull=1#post4365366

I have both Sol & Achenar permits, but what ship to use for the event? (Assuming family commitments don't crop up!). Light but fast general purpose Cobra3 with fair jump range, or something with teeth? I think Salome might need bodyguards against the Feds, Imps and their bounty hunters (I haven't forgotten my suspicions Cmdr B! ;) )

Yes, there was something, I hadn’t had such occurance since I started playing Elite in May 2016, and after that never again also:
One or two days after Salomé’s first announcement for the April 29th event, and the first speculations arose about SOL being probably involved, I traveled there and cruised a bit around in SC. I had no missions of any kind running, no unpaid bounties or whatsoever, I just cruised above Mercury for a few minutes, when I got a “Misson objective” POI as for example one obtains for space salvage missions when getting close to the mission goal. I jumped in and found a T9, who contacted me and offered a mission to get 24 telemetry suites for him to hand over within 22 hours (in the comms menu as a “mission critical update”). In the comms menu itself, you normally see the person that contacted you being represented by a portrait, but not in this case, the “portrait” of the character who contacted me was estranged by horizontal stripes as if being compromised by radio interference. The portrait looked like you would do to personate a secret agent or a shady individual for example, the face could not be clearly seen and it looked like the “helmet” pilot we can find in any piloted ship. I could not accept the mission as I would never have managed to get these 24 telemetry suites, besides I would have been on work when the mission timed out. Next days I’ll try to reproduce the whole thing (weekend is coming :) ).
Are such randomly missions normal but rare ? Or maybe it wasn’t random at all ?

Heading through a gateway in the rift...

A strange binary neutron star system in NGC 884

When heading back from the rift along the Bubble, Heart and Soul, Abandoned settlement line, I noticed a very distinctive open cluster right near the line I was taking. I decided to head there to investigate, as I remember Drew's clues when referring to a Commander planning to investigate NGC 7822, he said "make things a little less... nebulous", which may have been a referral to try an open cluster!

I've noticed there are some interesting systems in NGC 884 and a few unexplored systems, so going to spend a few days here before heading back to try and get a Sol permit. you never know what may turn up! :)

These missions are both random and rare but it may stick around a day or so, so perhaps you will have a chance to complete it later. I once encountered one in the Delkar system but I was just there to mine and did not want to be diverted to pick up what the mission-giver wanted. I think it remained for a day, perhaps two, I'm not sure.

I think the main mystery-related features in the Sol system are the Unregistered Comms Beacons, although there are also some tourist beacons with lore background. There is an engineer there as well, Bris Dekker, although they make little of use to explorers (grade 3 FSDs, grade 4 FSD interdictors).

If we count in crashed satellites to that, as I wrote before, Charon had many POIs, also with crashed satellites within (I'd estimate at least a third to a half of the POIs I checked). Unfortunately I had no SRV equipped so I couldn't scan them. I'll do that in the next days, I noted the coordinates (don't have them at hand right now as I'm on work) and I'll also check if they are persistant or random. Will post here later when I've done that.

Good day CMDR's,
Im done with my E:D Career, and i now have all the time to do what i want. exploring! I have a fully lightweight anaconda ready to go exploring and help finding the mysteries.
my problem is now, i read every bit of story and lore i can find, via google reddit, and this forum. also inteviews and all the stuff. but i have no idea how i can help with this particular problem (FORMIDINE).
im read most of this thread, but my english isnt the best and i have problems to find out what the next step is, what we have to do next.
any kind soul out there who can point me in the right direction?

thx and happy hunting!

Have you looked at the maps on the front page.

The mystery on the rift is unknown. The location is roughly on the map.

It's somewhere near Eafots and the Heart and Soul nebula.

Where is anyone's guess and its a huge chunk of space.

You can find it though although on the 29th there will be the further adventures of Salome. This may give us more clues to the rift or it may just tie up Salomes story from the book Reclemation.

If I find her I will try my hardest to get her to give me an inkling of what we may be looking for or a map with an x on it.

Drew did confirm that the events surrounding 29.04.3303 would help with the Rift mystery. So for anyone that wants to help that's still around the bubble, I'd recommend staying put for now and then getting involved come April 29th and see what happens... then possibly head out Rift-wards after that as there will be some benefits post 2.3 launch next week:

Exploration data is getting a serious boost in the next patch also, and there's two new asteroid bases that will be available in the Rift area also (good place for us Rifters to sell data, refuel/restock/repair)> There's a base in each of the heart and soul nebula's. "Base Camp" will be in Soul Sector EL-Y D7, and "Farsight Expedition Base" will be in Heart Sector IR-V B2-0

Thanks, forgot about Base Camp.

I've surveyed the systems around Farsight to a radius of about 40 lyrs for the purpose of collecting data for EDD/EDDB/EDSM keeping a eye out for anything unusual which there wasn't. I skipped flying out to 6 250,000 secondary suns, only three of the systems within that radius had previous EDDB entries, and only 2 were totally untagged, nothing unusual in terms of planet types or distribution in the area if anything a bit light. I'm claiming one system for a backwoods cabin Heart Sector BV-Y c16 has the only ELW in the area, a backup world and all jumponium, the only real estate the area I'm calling it Ruby Ridge.

Was getting bored of spinning around Farsight so off I go to Basecamp to spin.

Hi all,
This is a great thread! I follow your progress from afar, it makes interesting reading but I try not to pick up too many spoilers.

I think I can safely assume that everyone here will be trying to take part in the event on 29th April, right?! Well, I wonder if you might support my plea for commanders to have "open doors" for multi-crew during the event so that those who can't get their ship there (like me) can still join in?

If not, I'm sure you've got good reasons.

Cheers :)

Nice asteroid bases in Heart and Soul. The rifters new home maybe

Checked SOL yesterday: Styx definitely is present in ED's SOL, we also checked Charon in a wing of 2, I personally found that it had many POIs for such small body. Today I'll be going to check Styx and the other smaller bodies, too.

I've had the same feeling - hence I'm camped out on Eris for the night and will continue to explore throughout the next days.
Eris is the goddess of discord; somehow I find that fitting to the lady who is at the center of this mystery.

Gravitational anomalies on Merope 5c does ring a bell from the (distant) past of the Cannon thread.... but of course I can't find the reference now :)

Just arrived back in EAFOTS. One last throw of the dice before 2.3: I'm going to try and retrace the steps of the Formidine Rift Beta and/or Gamma Dynasty Expeditions. I have no idea if there's anything left of them to find but the Gamma Expedition seems to have made it across the Rift so perhaps they are closer to 'it' and will help me find the right direction. They reported a heat signature and you have to be in normal space to observe those, so I might check out some Belt Clusters and see if anything shows up. The Beta Expedition seems to have been headed in the same direction and was stranded in a system with a habitable world (I'll assume this means Earth-like), so I'll report any Earth-likes I find. I want to be back in the bubble at least a week before the event takes place (there's also a Buckyball Racing Club event taking place 15th-23rd which I don't want to miss), unless events in the meantime suggest that this might be an important place to be at that time, so this will not be a long expedition (no 'taking my time and plotting a route across'!).
