Ahhhh the great swearing debate
points to ponder

I am a pagan and as such in the spirit of freedom of speech

1) I do not consider words of a sexual nature as a curse
2) I do however consider racist \ sexist terms offensive
3) I also consider suggestions that my ability to digest in given information immediately is not a failing but a time to think about my answer


in other words you can call me a but not a and ill respond in kind
oooo look daddy lots of spaces so the under 18s don't know



and when you reply you will miss the fat and ugly out of the name

sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me

but lats save the kiddies for the sake of it

You can't come into my house and say what you like without me kicking you out. The same applies to David Brabens virtual property.

Personally I think there are enough rude and objectionable people in the world. Anything that discourages antisocial behaviour, especially around kids is a good thing.

Half of the problems we have today are because too many people would rather not be responsible for anything at all, ever, and would rather let someone else deal with the consequences. Usually resulting in unfortunate ones.

To the OP - what debate .. you simply stated a few things :S

In a wider sense, paganism has also been understood to include any non-Abrahamic, folk, or ethnic religion

ie it is not a single religion but anything not of the "classical" sort, ie Roman or Greek.

You are not restricted.

There are just consequences in regards to how you exercise your freedom of expression.

If someone comes to visit my house there is most certainly an acceptable standard of conduct and language. I will not have someone using filthy language discussing filthy subjects in front of my son for example.

We are here in Frontier's house and they have their standards. I am thankful it is not a consequence free free for all. In truth there is no such thing as a consequence free free for all because words do effect people and those effects are consequences. Would you like people posting execution videos in the off-topic section? I wouldn't.

Sadly this is not the case. If anything verbal, mental abuse is significantly more damaging in the long term than brief violent abuse. Neither form should be tolerated.

Consider the effect on a child if all day every day they are called worthless, useless, good for nothing. Will they go on to great things? Some may rebel and do so, most will not. A life of misery and inadequacy will follow.

I posted this elsewhere - http://xkcd.com/1357/ (caution, some language in it) but in short this is the message:

I am a grown up over the age of 18

I think there are far more dangerous ideals in the world than mine

I have my own opinions and I respect the fact that you have yours

I don't push my beliefs on you so why do you try and push yours on me

I try not to land planes in sky scrapers

I try not to sell drugs at a profit anywhere

and most of all

I try not to think down to your level

Hi Dave,

A couple of quick questions on your original post.

I am a pagan

What does being a pagan have to do with swearing? Apart from a lot of modern swear words have their origin/root in the old languages.

Believers of all faiths (and none) have people who don't like swearing. Myself, I'm an atheist (even though I'm named after a Norse God) and swear if required depending on the company I'm with.
