THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I am only now getting into the Salome/Kahina storyline and am about half way through Reclamation.

The thing that strikes me so far (in the book anyway), is how Salome can seem totally lost/innocent in a novel situation, but next time a similar situation occurs she is decisive and proficient.
She only needs to see or do something once and it is mastered.

And the way Dalk reacted when he learned that she had shot space weapons for the first time...(like, Great! now she will be a top gun!!)

It almost smacks of augmented AI or something similar..?

Anyway, like I said, I am only half way through the book.

And by the way, is the Alessia Verdi short story considered canon?

Have to ask,,did C.o.R. ever figure out who holfac'ed your super secret founding meeting and handed it and her to Petreus?
One thing we do know about C.o.R. is it's a honeypot for spies and traitors.

CMDR Finn McMillan of the Earth Expeditionary Fleet had access to that holfac as a former member of CoR. He defected from the Children to help build the exploration arm of the Earth Defense Fleet. I don't think he would have had any motivation for releasing that recording to the Empire though and, since he died in the Rift, I guess there is no way of asking him.

Unfortunately that's the remit that's been given. CoR are roleplayers and explorers, they rarely PVE (except when on terrorists duty :p), and PvP is something way down the list.... In fact it's not even on the list and is something the group has never been a part of. Yet on the 29th they've been asked to play a role and go up against massive organized groups who have 2 years of PVP experience behind them, and are probably all kitted out with G5 engineered ships.

Explorers and roleplayers vs CODE and SDC [knocked out]

CoR don't have a prayer unless others take an active role. But even if they stand alone against those odds, and it ends up being a PvP slaughter, that's how it'll play out in the story, and at least one group will try to put a story to it beyond a mere gankfest.

We'll PR it into a glorious defeat! :D

The Winged Hussars will stand by you and Salome. We are not PVP masters, but do have some experienced players. The main rule of our faction is cooperation and freedom of choice, as long as one's actions are not harmful to the group as a whole. So while no one from us will be against you or Salome, I don't know how many will come and help. But we will do our best!

As the only surviving Loren, she bears the guilt of her family on her shoulders. Before the attack, Chione was under federal jurisdiction. Millions of dead federal citizens after the hostile imperial takeover may answer your petty questions.
/RP/

And yet the Federation never once denied that the Empire acted outside it's legal jurisdiction. How can the Federation hold Salome responsible for the actions of her father when they can't even admit that a crime was committed? She may be guilty of defending her father's actions but she can't be held responsible for committing them.

Justice has already been served in this case. Algreb Loren is dead and, with his only remaining heir now disenfranchised from the Empire, that dynasty has been brought to an end.

As I've said before ... Salome is a tool. If we can wield her to deliver further shame on the Empire then she's still useful to me.

And by the way, is the Alessia Verdi short story considered canon?

No. Some aspects from the short story have entered canon though. The meeting between Kahina and members of CoR where she said she wanted Patreus' head on a platter was reiterated in Galnet so that aspect of the meeting is now canon. Other aspects of the Alessia Verdi story are likely to be canonized when Drew publishes Premontion. We'll just have to wait and see.

Additional Reinforcements

Expect some help from other organizations as well. CMDR Yuri Nakamura is her accomplice on Xbox, and rumors say Alliance player factions in conjunction with CoR will be on station to assist in the extraction of her. Let the Imperials and Feds come and try to silence her, they will fail.

I feel like chicken tonight (like chicken tonight)

Or, on topic

I feel that we're missing a basic link from back in the original Kahina/Salome Galnet storyline.

Not Salomé related, but has anyone checked these Sirius settlement worlds lately

Launching the Colonies
12 MAR 3301
Almost a thousand years ago, a corporate colonisation project from Earth set out on a trip to find a new home among the stars. The colonists settled in the Sirius system, where they became one of the leading suppliers of drive fuel anywhere in the galaxy, and so the Sirius Corporation was born.

The Sirius Corporation has a long history of colonising worlds beyond the borders of occupied space, which is why the Sirius Corporation is pleased to announce that it will be returning to its roots with the launch of 9 new colonial outposts, all of which should start being deployed within the next 14 days.

The 9 systems chosen to act as new homes to Sirius Corporation colonists are:

The Wredguia Colony Cluster

Wredquia SX-L D7-92

Wredguia SX-L d7-91

Wredguia WD-K D8-66

Wredguia QA-N b34-4

Wredguia XD-K d8-78

Sirius Outposts

Gliese 97.2

HIP 8396

Col 285 Sector WA-L b9-3

CAO Junga

Bet there'd be a few juicy datapoints there!

Ah Twitter. Seems he has some shots of Tsu and the Starstormer on there too. Interestingly it has an Alliance (Mahon) logo. So maybe not so Ex operative.

Plausible deniability or (with tin foil hat on) what remains of GalCop is the Alliance or hiding within it.

I am confused about those old jump drives. They say in the logs that they spend more time in witchspace as in normal space, yet everybody is telling me that those old drives took weeks to charge and then could jump a very long distance... [wacko]

The 2b drives had comparable jump range to what we have now. In some cases, even better.

A max range jump would take one week in witchspace. This week would pass in seconds for the pilot, due to time compression.

During the time the ship was in witchspace, a departure cloud and an arrival cloud would mark each end of the jump. These were scannable.
A ship with longer jump range, could therefor overtake shorter range ships in witchspace and wait for them, by the departure cloud.

The Independent Rift Explorers Alliance judges CoR by their actions - which do not support your statement.
We do, however, welcome any dissident CoR members who are unhappy with the direction their faction has taken under the 'leadership' of Salome to join the IREA in their investigations of the Formidine Rift.

Some kind of alliance between independent Rift explorers, maybe?

That's what this thread provides!

To my mind Miss Loren could make things a lot easier on herself by seeking safe harbour with the Alliance.

Of course given Raan Corson has been with her, who also came to the Alliance for safety and former junior Alliance operative Tsu Annabelle Singh (why former we don't know) has also been with her, she may have been there and did speak with the Alliance already. So what I don't understand is what is it she is going to do that she can't just broadcast? If she has proof of something so important then do a Snowden and give it all to major broadcasters, once it is out it will be everywhere and the Empire, Federation, Sirius, Wreaken or whoever will have no chance of putting it back in the box.

What is it that she must physically do, or go to?

This; exactly the crux of the issue. So the point of the 29th event can not (just) be information dissemination; I think she will lead us to incontrovertible evidence that we must see with our own eyes

I only hope that it has been properly QA'd this time; CTD would be a disaster!

For those who are curious, and wish to put a face to the name:

Kahina Loren a.k.a Salomé:

I prefer the event poster, she's much hotter than that avatar! ;)

I have a strong feeling that the events will lead to the rally point in COL 70 sector.

No idea how, though.

Advertise a major in-game event that draws a large number of players together in a very small area. It would be a good opportunity for Frontier to release some surprise content ...

Surprised nobody commentedon the 13th's Utopia Commune CG to start an R&D programme, they want "zirconium, conductive ceramics and strange wake solutions". So what engineer upgrade requires those? And which engineer?

And please can someone remind me how to find Abnormal Compact Emission Data? Hung around high CZ all yesterday scanning & got one drop :S

Yep. We've got Feds, Alliance, Imps, CoR, Independents and even XBox Commanders all working toward a common goal. That just proves we're all mad :)

You needed proof? ;)

At least 180 proof.

The last time I found Abnormal Compact Emissions Data was from a private data beacon in a signal source. I don't remember which type but it caught me by surprise so it might even have been Degraded. Inara says they can be gained from mission rewards as well. If you can spend that long in a CZ without getting one from scanning a combat ship, then I wonder if they can be gained from a scan or not in 2.3.
