THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I was considering purchasing a Fer-de-lance, as I want to use something fast, but I'll probably end up being the one who needs defending! ;)

It looks like Saturn may be the staring point and 46 Eridani is the destination..

Was rather hoping Triton would be unlocked so we get to see what "they"'ve been hiding there!

We don't even know what the Capabilities of her ship is going to be?

Is the Meta jump drive going to be something silly, so player's can't keep up.

Will I be allowed to wing up so I can use my healing lazers?

A little off topic, but have any of you seen the news about the EVENT HORIZON TELESCOPE, first image of Sag A has been captured.

Let's just hope the conclusion isn't... "and griefers got her. The end."

If she dies why would it be "Griefers"? Not wanting to even go there in this thread but there are as many valid reasons for her to be ended as there are for her to live. The fact that Drew has opened the door for the community to decide does not make one way or the other correct.

… We're not there yet though, hopefully the upcoming denouement has been clearly telegraphed. I want to players to decide that outcome.

I guess the majority of players, if they actively search for information know:

Some event will happen.

That's not enough for me to decide what to do at that event.

If you want that players decide the outcome I think it would be a good idea to tell them what the choices are (not just "unknown mysterious evil" vs. "damsel in distress").
Or just tell everybody that the event is primarily for those who spend the last years RPing with the Formidine Rift mystery. That's OK too, if the result doesn't affect the other players.

The lack of information results in players assuming the worst. Human nature. Assuming the worst is a good way not to get bad surprises (like getting eaten by a predator).

Nicely solved.
I have been sat in Eridani 46 for some time now but i didn't get the answer via the puzzle.
There was a picture posted somewhere showing off Salome in a courier out in the black somewhere... she had the system displayed on her nav panel in the screen shot.

That made me laugh.

So, the conclusion (maybe?) to this story on the 29th, apparently SDC are helping with the PvP angle and defending Salome. That makes me hmmm, I can't help think that they'll do the defending then obliterate salome et all at the point of maximum effect and lol's, ie. just when it looks like it's all going to be rosy.

Cause they don't have form doing that sort of thing now do they ;)

My tinfoil two-cents:

The Rift Mystery is not the ship itself, or the audio. It's WHY it is there, who sent it and for what purpose. (Hence, not a POI)

The organization that sent the ship had to have incredible wealth in the time the ship was built, crewed, and launched over 30 years ago. In order to hire the crew for the ship, the organization would also have to have had the outward perception of wealth to offer each crewman "enough to retire on." Regardless if they ever intended to pay it, it had to look like they could or people would not have joined up. More on money in a min.

The organization had the plan of killing the crew and hiding the mission from the start using black medical practices which points to a spy/intelligence organization.

It was crewed by humans that we assume launched from the core worlds and is why "R" is going back that way.

An organization like this would need a motive to drop this much capital into a mission. Money is one: When it becomes necessary to evacuate the core, the organization with the route, plan, and safe room has something that could be sold at an incredible price. (ELWs, terraformed planets, beacons, etc)

What organization that was around 30+ years ago that had unlimited funds and stands to benefit the most from an event that would require evacuation on a mass scale?

Lastly, I doubt that the aliens have anything to do with this. They seem content with pulling me out of hyperspace 6 times in a row to say hi. If they wanted to they could have blasted me at any time. That does not seem to be their plan.

[takes off tin hat]

see you on the 29th...

May need some defenders with ECM to protect against never-ending packhound missiles.

I have to agree with you on this point, as a person that reads these forums quite often to keep up to date with things, im also not actually helping much, mostly because i dont have the right skills other than being able to go to point A and scan it and report my findings, the same goes for the Alien archeology and other mysteries thread, though i have been more active over there as i can actually get my teeth in to some of the stuff they do.

For thos out there that have no idea about the rift or the Alien archeology stuff but have seen the vids of it all, like CMDR Zadian Lichtfrost said they need more info to be able to make a choice.

Has SDC really decided to help saving Salomé? That would be awesome. That may mean that there will a meaningful battle.

It would be nice if FDev would somehow record the event and later release the footage.

46 Eridani is the start point.

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew...

While we've got 46 Eridani as a start point, would it be fair to say that after 46 Eridani, the course will be to Achenar, then Cursa, then Sol? Or maybe 46 Eridani - Sol - Cursa - Achenar? Or perhaps Cursa will be skipped as it's not a capital of a superpower?

I thought about it as Phaeton's reach being the farthest and brightest point of Eridanus - which is Achenar, then following the path of souls - the Eridanus constellation - to its conclusion at Cursa. After that there's the whole DB-IB 1984 thing - essentially Earth as it's where DB and IB came up with a certain game we may have heard about in 1984
