"White knights" - come out come out wherever you are!

White knights are overrated.

Black knights is where it's at OP...

I come to this forum for inspiration and to catchup on what's happening in game.

I read peoples opinion occassionally, however I have given up on expressing my opinion if it's contrary to someone elses in a thread not started by me.

There is simply no point...people are people, and opinions are just that...why get upset or argumentative over that...unless that's your sport I guess.

I'm more interested in learning something new or helping other people out who questions I can actually answer.

Oh, and I love this game....does that make me a White Knight, or is that just a term for a pro ED evangalist who cannot resist asserting their beliefs onto anyone who may have a gripe about the game, valid or otherwise.

Meh.

I have been accused of being a White Knight for having a different opinion on something then another person.

But I am white and people I know say I am a good person, so white knight may be correct.

The vast majority of people will respond well to a critical but well thought out post that's on topic, lacks ranting, hyperbole and name calling. Sadly many of the 'compliant' posts contain some or all of those elements. People then chime in pointing out how OTT the post is and then they get called "white knights". Granted, there are some people who will defend stuff in the game whatever, but it's really not that many people. The term has just become an insult to enable people to wildly thrash angrily about without having to actually engage their noggin.

There aren't any "white knights". There are only future pitch fork holders, past pitchfork holders, and current pitchfork holders. And in between grumbling about the game, we grumble about how the other person's grumbling is all wrong. :)

To give this thread any chance of being productive, we might need to define "white knight".

How about: Person who disagrees with my criticism of the game and uses too many good arguments, so counter arguments are hard to come by and are therefor replaced by using the Ad Hominem "White Knight"

I like this definition. It's completely accurate to what I've seen.

Labels derails threads immediately. It then become person focused, and objective reached. Thats how its done.
Labelling people is "poor man's weapon of mass destruction" as destroys further advancement there and then. Labelling is the resort you use when you have no sound arguments, have been obliterated in an argument, dont know what you are talking about.
It is also very poor form in any civilized form of debate.
Why did I write that in this forum? (See what I just did there ? Clever is it not ?)
;)

Works for me. But I'm more interested in the perception that these people are being accused of things they are do seem to be doing, such as hounding those who disagree with them and even threatening them privately! I'm always playing the fool around here, trying to make light of stupid posts, but that is a serious accusation and needs looking into.

The fictitious White Knights are the sworn enemies of The Keepers of the Truth.

What these Keepers don't realise is that it is just 'their' truth they are keeping.

What they also don't realise is that it's just an exercise in filling time before they become wormfood, like pretty much everything else.

Think of that the next time you jump to a new system.

Or not.

I was once warned to 'change my ways' or I would be 'exposed for what I truly am'. [haha]

They nerfed my life. :(

Not sure what this thread is about (even after reading the OP) but my FDL is called "White Knight" because I like to liberate hostages or free slaves whenever I can. Good for the soul! ;)

As for the state of the game, I pretty much play it everyday and have done since Beta. I know it's not perfect; but it's the best game in its genre currently out there. What would we do without it?

Well said. +1

I forgot to add: I also find it very funny that the people who have put in atrocious amounts of hours in the game, and still do are some of the most balanced and fact based critics of the game. They are clearly "Fanbois", but love the game and are the first to point out wrongs, bugs, sploits and so forth, all based on facts, often with an enormous time investment to do so.
Us o'ol timers know who they are, the young ones dont.
I could not do it, I choose to "not see" the missing stuff now, and just enjoy flying a thingie in space..
Hint: That why I am a "lifer" :)

The two head white knights made an appearance in the first 2 pages of this thread. Thats a huge success in my book.
