THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Yeah, I don't know why Rifters have a reputation for reading too much into things. :p

From what I've heard, Drew likes to write with very specific word use. Which really, we should pick apart every word he's ever said and cross analyse it to recent events! :p

Yep :p and links to coriolis builds too. Fantastic site!

Problem there is Coriolis is out dated! DBX still doesn't have updated modules..

@Volimar
Not recommended. You will not last long in front of PvP specialists wings.
Recommended is a small fast ship, interdict them, flee away and repeat until Salomé escapes.

I'm so torn. If I haul my Vette out to 46 Eridani I might get left in the dust once Salome and the others make a break for the bubble. But it's my best combat ship, engineered out the wazoo.

Yep, this event will go down at either the starting point or the ending point. Once they high wake out of 46 Eridani, I don't see any way to catch up, even with a longer jump range since you will have to spend time scanning her wakes.

Unless we know the destination. I guess they will offer up some hint before jumping, then its a matter of getting there first. That shouldn't be too hard with a good jump range, but that leaves the heavier combat ships in the dust.

Better bet for the antagonists is to wait in the bubble for the destination clue. Then get there first.

Righty Ho.

Healing beams at the ready.

Honestly the safest way for the event to proceed would to get CoR members to start an interdiction with Salome and just maintain the super-cruise tether.

I wanted to take my gunship, but I feel it's loadout would be unfair with the current bugs...

The one great piece of knowledge that having a classical education will give you is the knowledge that you shall probably never be able to use it in real life…..until now……maybe. I've just read the poem through on Galnet for the first time and was instantly struck with a "EUREKA" moment which I found an appropriate phrase for my theory on the contents. The poem seems a straightforward list of clues to locations in the galaxy until you come to the part
"If you would understand it all, seek Fibonacci’s Zephyrum"
Fibonacci as you probably all know by now was a name taken by a famous Italian mathematician who discovered a sequence of numbers which could be used across various problems and it seems that everybody is looking for a mathematical answer to the last line of the poem. (Stay with me, no sleeping at the back). He was only one of a long list of mathematicians who had long searched for this problem, one of whom was Aristotle who studied just about everything under the sun. Where Fibonacci used rabbits as an example for his research Aristotle used bees which are ……insects.(You see where I'm going with this now). Aristotle as I believe, (or should that be beelieve[rolleyes]) thought that all bees hatched from eggs that never had to be fertilised at all. He called this a zephyr/zephyrum/zephyria. EUREKA! So what's the connection with Fibonacci I hear you mumble? The Fibonacci sequence not only occurs in mathematics and computer programming (an easter egg on easter monday) but also in nature. The sequence is found to occur in the make-up of certain plants as well as the breeding cycle of bees (Wow, Aristotle was so close to finding it first). Going back to the make up of "certain plants" they look remarkably not unlike those being found by intrepid explorers on certain planets. Hence my theory is that these plant like structures are in fact unfertilised eggs of a yet unknown species of insect;) and they will materialise in the systems hinted to. These may be the ramblings of a space traveller, all those long lonely journeys may have affected my brain or just maybe I have grasped the huge secret that the universe is yet to unleash upon us. If wrong I shall probably be pelted by onionheads at every station I visit but if proven to be right I hope the great Professor Braben will grant me my own station where I shall be able to carry on and further substantiate my work. Be lucky out there pilots……..and watch your back.

Enough already of the onionhead throwing. I stand by my theory

As there is a possibiltity of factions opposing Salomé to MC on a Salomé-aligned ship, and vice-versa, be extremely selective in your crew choices.

just been reading about this Gomes Eanes de Zurara, pretty interesting stuff see the wiki here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gomes_Eanes_de_Zurara)

sometimes spelled Eannes or Azurara (checked both of these no hits on the gal map), was a Portuguese chronicler of the Age of Discovery.

he completed the first draft of the Chronicle of the Discovery and Conquest of Guinea, our authority for the early Portuguese voyages of discovery down the African coast and in the ocean, more especially for those undertaken under the auspices of Prince Henry the Navigator. It contains some account of the life work of that prince, and has a biographical as a geographical interest. (could be some clues in there i've not read it yet though)

now while reading i tried looking for system names from parts of the wiki, the only one i got a hit on was Eanes i found 4 stations.

1) Eanes Dock station in the Narangga system

2) station Eanes Gateway in the V1688 Aquilae system

3) Station Eanes Port in the Bangwa system

4) station Eanes Vision in the Contien system

see images here

Could be a galnet news article in one of the stations there?

Unfortunately i'm at work so i cant visit the locations myself just yet so i will be going later tonight to have a look.

Its most likely nothing at all and just pure tinfoil but hey its something for me to do later :)

If I get a moment, I will take a look for you!

update:

Bangwa - Nothing

Contien - Nothing

V1688 Aquilae - Nothing

Narangga - Nothing

I must ask. Why do you put Cheers, Drew. After every comment? Sure itd make sense in an email but the way it is there it just looks wrong lol

Old skool force of habit. When I were young this was all email and green screens as far as the eye could see... ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

Being on appdev/support, I always end my work correspondence with

Thanks,

as this is much shorter than
"Thanks for reading this message, but your silly little problem is neither relevant nor are your opinions, for I am GodAdmin, incarnate, and you will be handled at my leisure,

She'll be in a clipper right? If you don't have one or rank for it the Orca has the exact speed as the clipper. It's actually pretty much the same ship when you compare the two.

FAQs

Do you need the Elite Dangerous Horizons expansion to take part?

While it is not essential, we recommend the use of Horizons. Players with access to Horizons will have the advantages of engineered ships. This is likely to be crucial in terms of survival. The event is not scripted, so whilst we intend to keep all the action in space, we cannot guarantee that planetary landings will not be utilised as events unfold.

Is this PC only?

No. Whilst we are aware of the limitations on Mac users, we will do our best to ensure that they can access the event. PC/Mac users share the same universe and characters should be persistent within them. Xbox players cannot share the same galaxy instance due to technical limitations but we want to include this player-base as well. As a result, Salomé, Raan and Tsu will be present on the PC/Mac, with Yuri appearing on the Xbox.

Will this be played in ‘Open’ mode?

Yes. We understand that some players prefer solo and private modes for all sorts of reasons. However this is the only way to allow a live community event with access to all.

What about bugs?

Whilst there are some known issues, we believe we can work around them. We may update this with some specific guidance to players, please review before the 29th for specifics.

Will the characters re-spawn if they die or disconnect from the game if they are attacked?

No. There will be no combat logging from these characters. If they die, they die. We are playing the primary characters in ‘iron-man’ mode. We have created multiple characters to cater for as much flexibility in peer-to-peer instances as we can. We cannot guarantee instancing availability, but hope this offers the best possibility of meaningful interactions. (We are currently reviewing how the impacts of known bugs with certain weapons can be mitigated and may update this statement to reflect that outcome.)

They can die? Really? What if players kill all the characters?

So be it. That is a valid end to the story. The player-base decides the outcome. Our view is that in open mode everyone is ‘role-playing’ even if they’re not consciously doing so. From a story perspective there are some contingency plans for continuity if this occurs.

What type of event is it?

It is not a CG or a long range exploration quest. We advise participants to be prepared for combat.

Can we ‘friend’ these characters in game?

You can ask. Unfortunately the friend mechanism gives an unfair advantage to players by providing the precise location of the individual CMDR on the galaxy map, so we will be selective in whom we accept.

However, the individuals can be identified in open as:

CMDR Salomé

CMDR Raan Corsen

CMDR Tsu Singh

CMDR Nakamura Yuri D

Where is this happening?

As revealed by the video clue, the event begins in the 46 Eridani System.

Will this be streamed live?

Yes, the following streamers will be covering the event:

DJTruthSayer

CMDR Hughmann

CMDR Malic

What do we need to do?

You don’t need to do anything. If you feel you wish to do something, do what you must and what you think is best.
