Hardware & Technical Saitek X-55 Rhino out of stock everywhere?!?

Couple of reasons why I would try to avoid changing between hardware:

a) I imagine muscle memory will play a big role, especially when VR comes of age and you cant see your hands.

B) £170 is a lot of money to spend on any pc peripheral, wanna try and keep costs low

C) linked to point a, the first couple of hours (more like days!) in game are gonna be spent familiarising myself with the controls and physics of the game, seems silly to have to spend that time again once I get the hardware I want.

But as you say it may be my only choice depending on what happens in the next couple of weeks.

100% correct get the stick you want, not a compromise

I also have one RMA lol, because lights failed on joystick and it rattles, is this normal?

I do not know this. I turn off the lights as soon as it is possible, i.e. HUD installation. I am RMAing one to Amazon due to twist rudder failure. And gameshark should send me the new one as a switch on the throttle is not functioning.

So many returns, is it worth bothering getting one?

If it works as intended it is worth but only because it as it has so many hats and buttons (if we consider the stick only).

As for the joystick itself T16K.M IMO is more precise and I prefer it much better than X55's stick. But it does not have a pinky and another button near the pinky (buttons 5 and 6 on X55), which is a very significant downside for me.

I've got a spare boxed one accidentally sent to me by Saitek sitting in my living room unopened.

Still waiting to hear back from them after I informed them about it. Was just going to slap it on ebay but was advised I would be on dodgy ground if they came calling for it.

They said a week ago they are looking into it with sales and will get back to me, since then, nothing...

I'm in exactly the same position as Nomadski, and they aren't in any hurry to collect it.

Actually my spare is kind of an RMA as well, as I also had a non- functioning switch on the throttle, and opened up the box to swap the units over. So that's three faults in a fairly small sample! Still like the x55 though, but just don't buy it from abroad as there's a good chance you may need to RMA.

I am RMAing due to faulty switch and I do not need to send my unit back as I am not in UK.

No problems here. Have a look at the "What joystick..." poll thread. It's probably not an exact reflection of ownership but 122 either have or intend to get an X-55, and that's from just over 1,000 respondents. Set against that (admittedly rather unscientific) usage figure, a few RMAs doesn't seem too bad odds to me.

It's a decent stick with decent reviews, a few defective ones are to be expected, it's par for the course.

It's the same with anything

Good to know. I hate to think of people having to shell out £20+ to send things back overseas.

In the case of the faulty items return shipment's costs are reimbursed, however when these costs might easily get to 1/2 of the unit's price then return might become illogical.

They said they were going to look into it over a week ago now, and they not only still haven't got back to me, but they have closed the ticket I made informing them!

Yeah I left mine at work for nearly a week so it could be collected. Now it's back home and I'm not contacting them again; twelve emails is enough! I'm just waiting maybe six months then I might just ebay the thing, perhaps in time for game release?
