Many thanks to Erimus for this write up! I have also blogged it here. https://www.drewwagar.com/announcements/29-04-3303-your-universe-needs-you-cmdr/

This is the official event thread, for avoidance of doubt. If a mod could sticky it until after the weekend, it would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

Drew.

Actually, totally agreed. Despite my salty-ness due to the 2am kick of in my region (SE Asia), it is an awesome effort, thanks Erimus!

Somebody has to create and write the background stories and text that form part of what's going on with the Elite: Dangerous game universe. I'd much rather it be someone skilled in the art of writing (like Drew) than an FD employee who's got 100 other things to do at the same time as knocking up a few words for Galnet. I agree that you shouldn't HAVE to buy the book in order to be able to enjoy the game but it's nice that you have the option to do so should you wish to fill in some of the additional background story. So personally I'm hoping there IS more of this in the future.

Amen. Not to mention all the spelling and grammar errors that tend to eventuate, because coders tend to not be very good writers...

Good luck to all and a great write up + rep. The scale of this is really impressive, I hope that is translated into the finished article.

Alas I've decided not to attend - too many variables, limiting play time for myself. But I'll be listening...

Hope its not a storm in a tea cup.

While we await the day itself I just wanted to say how fascinating I found the Obsidian Ant interview with Drew (haven't quite finished it myself). I don't know if Drew is still interested in answering questions (and I quite understand if you'd rather keep this thread for RP and "ignore the man behind the curtain" so to speak) ... but I had one question of my own (apologies if it was answered in the 2nd half of that interview).

Can I ask who actually owns the "Salome" account (if indeed it is an account in the traditional sense)? Is it yours or is it FD's? (just curious really). Also, who will be flying Salome on the day? I don't mean specifically (I get that you wouldn't want to answer that) but generally ... have you got someone who's an experienced PVP combat pilot to do it?

You might want to amend the first post slightly. It currently reads as though the sole aim is to kill the fugitives - the tl:dr position is that is the only option. I would suggest under the "mission objective" adding the alternatve mission to protect the fugitives and assist them in their attempt to broadcast the truth about the Dynasty/Exodus conspiracy etc. (Edit: if indeed that is their mission!)

I suspect that tone was done on purpose. There's a feeling around that the pro-Salomé forces may significantly outnumber the opposition and be more organised. Which is understandable, lots of players want to fight to reveal a big story point rather than cover it up, and there's the life of a pretty girl at stake. The only motives to stop Salomé really are role play based (personally dislike her or aligned with faction opposed to her) or straight up ganking. I'm sure there will be loads of gankers around on Saturday but they're probably be so busy shooting everything else that Salomé and chums will sail right on past.

Possibly but I like to be precise and lay out all the balanced options :). If griefers are involved then it is likely that they've infiltrated CoR and other pro-Salome groups from the outset; their goal might well be to terminate all the fugitives in the first few minutes thereby causing the maximum grief to everyone else who either want to enjoy the chase &/or hear the truth

It is indeed deliberately designed this way.

Cheers,

Drew.

...A bounty of 5 Million credits is offered for Salomé’s death. 2 Million credits is offered, apiece, on receipt of similar proof of her conspirators’ demise....

Is there a max/limit to the amount of a bounty claim that a player can earn from a confirmed kill?

I'm excited to see how their "iron man" approach will pan out, as well as the already mentioned possibility of them participating in a MC session, if only briefly.

Is there more background information on the other fugitives?

Salomé is an interesting character but I don't feel much sympathy for her*. And I have no interest in becoming involved in squabbles amongst the Imperial elite. I have no desire to kill Salomé nor much in protecting her other than an interest in the galaxy shaking information she claims to have. I haven't drunk the Raxxla-Aid and am not inclined to believe her every pronouncement.

Knowing more about the other characters could help give me motivation for taking a side. Perhaps I might want to prioritise the protection or destruction of one or more of the other fugitives.

*This is a good thing. I like complex characters even if I don't like the character represented.

All of them will be dead within half an hour. I wish they couldn't be killed. I'm curious about what Salomé has to say but I think we'll have to find out in another way. Too many players are trigger-happy in this game and that's one of the reasons I won't take part in this. I don't play Open because I'm tired of being attacked randomly without reason by others. I really like this event and the whole concept behind it, but I think it's not like in MMORPG games where players can find other activities beside fighting. In Elite too many people are just pew-pew. Either way, I'm really curious how the story goes forward.

It will certainly be easier for FD if she is killed off. Won't have to reveal all those pesky secrets for one...

A few questions
1. Why doesn't Salome just tell all of her supporters the secret once they gather around her in the beginning? I get the point of it for story and excitement but I'd rather have the knowledge she wants to share than some "exciting event" where the odds are stacked that she will die.

2. Even if she does make it to whatever station she is heading to, how can anyone expect her to live after that? Wouldn't her enemies blockade the system to wait to kill her as soon as she tries to leave?

3. How do we scout ahead for security (or players who want to lay in wait to try to attack her) when we don't know her destination beyond "somewhere in the bubble"?

4. Will Salome and her co-conspirators all be flying the same path? Or will they be splitting up in order to increase their chance of one of them surviving this ordeal?

Nice OP, and sorry if this has been asked before, and if I missed it in the OP, but as its on PC and Xbox, what happens if she gets killed on PC but gets away on Xbox or vice versa?

Good luck to all involved, not my cup of tea but its nice to see something going on in game, that isn't your bog standard CG of move a to b or shoot c.

Not sure about all your questions, but Drew has said in an interview that he is well aware that they all might be killed and that there will be other avenues in place to perhaps find out what they were going to reveal.

No doubt whatever it is, some people will say that it is was over hyped and suchlike - this is the nature of such things. For me I will enjoy it whatever the outcome.

My advice is to take the Hutton Trucker type approach - enjoy the event for the other players you meet, and the various random things that will happen to you personally - you don't actually need to encounter the main protagonists to enjoy the event - lots of players will all be gathered together in the same places and plenty of opportunity to make up your own fun from it. Probably the best story of the day will end up being nothing to do with what Salome is up to but some other random but wonderful thing that happens.

There is a unique character for Xbox One, CMDR Nakamura Yuri D , who will be the focus of the event on that platform. Salomé and the others will only be on PC/Mac. Look in the OP under the heading 'Can we 'friend' these characters in game?' for the spelling, if you want to add them. (Salomé will need the accent on the 'e', so be careful).

Or probably less politically correct ...
