It feels like someone is doing their job wrong

I come back and check from time to time on the status of this game, naively hoping that FD fixed it. But nope. No luck. I agree with all OP posts, although I stopped playing before the last update. I was so looking forward to this update. But it looks like it just added useless crap and made matter worse.

I think it's time to forget about ED and move on. Too bad really. The game has so much good going on for it. But the devs attitude suck horribly. I wish someone bought the game and fired everyone before fixing the game.

Steam reviews are getting progressively more negative too.

Wake up FD, you're ruining a great game.

and thats why ur argument r doomed....

Every thread , every post above says it knows it more or less , ED is a Menu Game, with joystick controls.

ok to say exploration is identical we can agree with..but for combat i wouldnt say that....most of the changes if not all is for pew pew....

How do you see combat different now? I'm curious because for me, the essence of the game just didn't really progress since beta. I'm still doing more or less the same as when I did around I Bootis in beta.

As I see it, most of the big changes mechanically were - missile and python nerf, introduction of shield cells, nerfing/buffing them, heat meta, FDL buff, engineers release. The missions are pretty much same, just with different text that doesn't mean anything, there aren't any persistent NPCs yet, CZ, RES too, no naval career, STILL no piracy, most people just run pulse/mc because it's the most effective (or g5 eff beams if they can). Personally I just feel they are moving the game forward, but they forgot that they still have mechanics and their placeholders(tm) from v1.0.

Why did we get multricrew? Why didn't we get content that would bring actual exploration gameplay, proper player pirates, reworked systems and modules so they could be controlled by future crew better.

Where is Powerplay that feels more epic and bubble changing? Where is my official canyon racing tracks where you can register in game? What about in game CQC tournaments for exclusive skins? And how about a story that I can experience in game instead of googling where the hell should I go.

3.0 better be called "Dangerous Careers" and expand all of the things we can do, so we can actually do something instead of gameplay that feels kinda the same-y and generic, if you really think about it.

Edit: Like devs, I forgot about miners and smugglers!

In reality we're basically doing pretty much everything the same now as we did around I Bootis (and later in the Pill). We have more weapons to kill each other with , but the basics have not changed. Would be good to be able to hire NPC engineers who could balance your shields better, or coax more out of your power plant to allow that extra edge. However, essentially everything about the game remains either unchanged or (if anything) more complex and less fun than it was in the original Beta testing. And there are issues and suggestions raised during Gamma that still remain un-resolved.

Essentially combat got more powerful guns, god mode shields, a roving hardpoint (aka SLF) and the ability for other players to fire our guns/SLF. However what we can do with our suped up guns/shields hasn't changed since Alpha/Beta, it's still the same farming sites (CZ, RES, Nav), USS and interdictions as before. There's still no real Naval Career, Wars still consist of static CZs which persist until the timer runs out (where are the fights around stations and other assets, why no CZs on planets, where is the sense of one side actually winning or losing a war), Bounty Hunting is still more farming than hunting, Missions are still rather disappointing and lacking in variety (although they have improved in some respects, they are actually worse for some of the combat ones) and Piracy is still an exercise in frustration.

compare that with what exploration/trade/mine got and u see that combat got something ...

Stop moving the goalposts please. Click on the little arrows in the quote box to see where the argument started. The claim was: Nothing in the game changed over the last 2 years. This is factually wrong and people provided examples to prove it. It's possible that the areas you are interested in didn't change, and I very much agree with you in this regard. But it doesn't stop the initial argument from being wrong. Now if we would just start a discussion about improving wars, bounty hunting, NPC wings and crew, and naval progression I think everyone would be happy to talk about it. But it wasn't part of this particular discussion...

OP hit the nail on the head. It's what I've been trying to argue for the past year or so. Always got shot down for it. I'm glad people are coming together now to point out the flaws.

Grumpy, very old man? :D

I've known grumpy old men. Even they wouldn't jump into a thread for a game they no longer play just to narrowmindedly insult it, the people who make it, and mention things that have already been beaten to death like the "validity" of Steam reviews (which might as well be Tumblr posts for all they're worth).

A grumpy old man just wouldn't bother to begin with, because even they have a modicrum of decency and common sense. Though if you asked him what he thought, he would tell you, and with lots of swear words.

I didn't notice you people questioning the validity of the ED Steam reviews when they were approaching 90%.

Before Horizons.

Yet now that two years of 'improvements' have knocked the Steam score down to around 60%, we get FD apologists saying "might as well be Tumblr posts for all they're worth".

Steam posts are very valid. I allways check them before buying a new game and if I read a lot of things that worry me I won't buy the game. I'm pretty sure more people do this.
