#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

Responses like these are why we're in such a bad spot. People like you utterly refuse to understand how bad the situation is. FD are doing barebones in every department now, and people like you continue to be happy about it. Unreal.

The APIs that they use were never originally supposed to be public. I'm not pleased that the API is so so 3rd party unfriendly, but this is *not the time* to make a statement. The game is in near shambles in its present state, they have better things to focus on right now. And if they think they are the only ones getting snubbed on communication with FDev, they are sadly mistaken.

Before 2.3 Beta dropped, Dale Emasiri contacted many of the big player groups including mine asking us to plan events that were supposed to be put into a schedule and made public, so we could have some epic beta stuff going on. The community department failed to ever actually do it, making the hours of planning and work *we* put into communication with *them* completely useless. I know how the 3rd party developers feel, or something like it. Point is, there are bigger things here than programs and sites that FDev never asked anyone to make. FDev loses nothing with this strike, all its doing right now is angering the people who would otherwise support them and what they do.

...I use / have used many of the above sites so whilst it will inconvenience me, i fully support you with doing this (for what that is worth).

I'll back that up as I too feel the exact same way and share this feeling.

It's quite unfortunate that it's coming down to this, but sometimes this is the only way to get ATTENTION .

As for the 3rd Party Dev's, hang-in there and keep up the good work, you've been all doing a great job providing players with your tools greatly improving the game's playbility.

In that respect, best Regards,

Alex DOYLE / aka Cmdr V3CT0RIZ3R / aka Cmdr AX3L L0YD3.

Sucks that all those great sites / tools are down for the weekend.

They certainly make ED much more playable and indeed enjoyable. Best of luck to the guys behind all the cool 3rd party tools and sites out there with this action. I can completely understand reasoning behind it.

Hope Frontier go back to how it was in the early days when they encouraged 3rd party apps community.

Some of the 3rd party apps really help take the frustration out and thank you to those who put time and effort in to making the game much more playable.

fdev es me off with 2 janky patches in a row, then the brightest part of the community pulls this stunt.

yeah. smooth moves all of you.

Support third party developers!

Dear Fdev

I agree with the premise of this thread - I use these sites multiple times a day and I have over 1,500 hours logged on E:D.

I use Inara EDDB and Coriolis multiple times per day, and they significantly increase my enjoyment of the game.

Without your 3rd party developers - Elite Dangerous is missing out! - support them! Please!

I speak not just for myself, but the hundreds of players in my faction - the Triple Elite Pixel Bandits Security Force (PBSF) on X Box. All of whom make daily visits to these sites to share info, plot routes, analyze blueprints, discuss loadouts etc.

Please help them help us!

PBSF Haggis

Let's have a quick response on this, please FD. Something better than "we'll look into it" would be appreciated.

Nip the thread in the bud, so that this issue doesn't have to run and run ;)

Do you really think that FD will be bothered to respond, when they can't be bothered to communicate with 3rd party developers!

Unfortunately I don't see withdrawing 3rd tool services is going to have any bearing on FD's attitude towards them, after all, it's not directly effecting ED is it?

Unless we all stop playing for that time period, FD won't bat an eyelid.

You've got my support, for whatever that's worth. You folks do amazing work and have added tremendous value to the game and its community.

I really can't describe just how much some of the tools listed made up for the lack of game mechanics from where I'm sitting. I'm sure I wouldn't play today without them.

I support your strike, good luck.

A SHAME

A beautiful, well informed (maybe not so) site like INARA deserves your recognition Frontier ...cmon guys the minions happy

I can see that both sides have some valid arguments. My opinion is that better support for 3rd party sites are a win-win for everybody (FD and players alike) and the sooner we can get there the better.

I used these sites every time I log into the game. Before I even fire up Elite, I open EDDiscovery (to send logs to edsm.net), eddb.io, and sometimes Coriolis. These sites are fantastic tools, and I have no doubt in my mind that even the developers use these sites to aid themselves.

The Big Issue with this approach is that If Fdev responds in a positive way to this, then this then becomes a valid tactic for dealing with them. If they don't the community loses a valuable resource.

I guess it's like not negotiating with hostage takers

Frontier will always have the option of saying 'no'. They do not have to listen but as already mentioned Frontier have 'advertised' the use of these sites so I guess they do not need to put in-game ones. They give with one hand and take away with another like they say.

I use four or five of these tools daily, and recommend their usage to every new player I come across. They are absolutely necessary to this game, and without them, or some feature like them in game, the game become a jumble of confusing and obtuse nonsense, with no clear indicators for how to do anything. Frontier, please do something about this.

Having those sites down will show the community just how much they rely on them. I know I use them regularly as they bridge weaknesses in current game mechanics.

Until Elite can deliver the functionality that third party sites provide, a proper API interface should be maintained. They do add a lot to the experience.

This game is an in-navigable mess without the community and third-party tools. These third-party devs have been one of the deciding factors keeping this game afloat and reasonably accessible to new players. The fact that FD has been ignoring them and treating them in such a neglectful way is really unconscionable, but seems to be par for the course with respect to FD's community "involvement." ~sun "#support3rdparty" dae
