#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

I'm happy to support such tools/sites through ad revenue when I use them, and/or by reporting my own findings, but I don't think Frontier should be under any obligation to.

who in their right mind would want to undertake something like engineers using only the dire in-game ability to pin one blueprint?

No one, but I have a little notebook and a pencil that holds pretty much all of them.

3rd Party Tools Are an Integral Part of the ED Universe

I wholeheartedly support the 3rd party tools in this. They add so much to the game, not just in terms of utility but in terms of immersion. I have their pages open when I'm playing, checking things and deciding on the best course of action. But I also have their pages open when I'm not playing: I browse star systems, I tinker with possible ship builds, I decide where my next base of operations should be. I like to think of it as the 34th century version of the internet: not Galnet, a paltry news bulletin that's about on the level of 1980s listservs, but a fully functional set of resources that my CMDR can use when he's grounded to keep up with the rest of the galaxy. 3rd party tools make the game better, with CMDRs cooperating to do things that FD doesn't have the resources to put together themselves. Isn't that what ED is supposed to be about? FD should be recognizing and thanking them, not locking them out of the process.

Yes, absolutely.
I really do understand that it is difficult for developers to provide support but certainly a bit more coordination and communication would be great.

I don't actually use the tools all that much but when I do they are incredibly helpful and I very much value the effort of those who've developed those tools. Not having them online right at the moment has a direct impact on my ability to play.

To be fair to FDev, they seem positively loquacious compared with the developers of Lord of the Rings Online. But that's being damned with faint praise. :D
(and they also get "omg they've broken the game" with every change, as does pretty much every developer)

But yes, not silently breaking things and leaving us to wonder if it's a bug or deliberate change, and whether alternative courses of action were considered, would be nice. :)

IMO the using the forum to handle bug reports method could be improved as well, by some sort of resolution indicator, whether "should be fixed in $version" or the many bug reports that are transient network flakiness or user error being flagged as such. And maybe an acknowledgement in the thread of which bugs progress beyond "being investigated" to confirmed/known issues, never mind fixed.

I am very sorry to hear that. I use INARA every day it`s a helpful site. Please Devs gime them a little more help. They do it for all of us. o7:(

If you haven't contacted Rougey, I'd ask him to shut down his ED section. If not, he's monopolizing while y'all are on strike.
Good luck!

Hi everyone. Just letting you know we've seen the thread. Please be patient while we bring this to the attention of the developers.

Just quickly want to mention that we always try to communicate as openly and effectively with our community as possible, and we appreciate all the hard work that goes in to the maintenance of these useful sites and tools.

I have also sent a PM to the OP, too :)

Thanks for your patience everyone!

Please support the 3rd party devs FD :)

Inara I find as my go to site for engineering pre-planning - without it planning would be very time consuming.
EDSM I use to track my exploration jaunts across the galaxy.
EDDB is my go to resource for finding, ships, modules, mats and commodities.

They significantly improve my gaming experience :) Thankyou.

Please Frontier, move on the right direction !
3rd party tools are making the game better. We, the players, need it everyday.
3rd party tools deserve your attention because your player base deserve your attention.

Well said .... and reassuring [up]

FD creates game.

Third parties create resources that take the thinking and challenge out the game.

Third parties get mad because FD didn't make it 1000% easy to facilitate the removal of challenge from the game.

Self-righteous forum chaos erupts, and I get popcorn.

...

Just another day over here <3

and there it is, the generic soap box reply that actually is a load of nonsense

"Just quickly want to mention that we always try to communicate as openly and effectively with our community as possible" I have seen zero evidence of this;

or this: "and we appreciate all the hard work that goes in to the maintenance of these useful sites and tools.".

Might as well tell us all "please stop burning our house down" instead of getting a firehose.
