The more I play CQC, the more obvious it is that FD have only themselves to blame for its lack of success. The match maker simply does not work. It is clear that even when I know there are other people waiting for a game, I am still sitting watching the spinning roulette hexagon of searching. No lobby starts, no nothing. This improved with 2.1 but reverted in 2.2. I can be chatting with several players on discord who are all waiting for a game that doesn't start. When a game does start there are usually a few new people around. How many players just gave up while waiting? FD presumably have stats on how many people play but I suspect if the match maker can't even match people who want to play then their stats may not be be accurate.
Often, when a game ends, you find yourself in a broken lobby. It has enough players for another game but insists that it needs even more. Sometimes there are nine people in a lobby which is one more than the maximum per game of eight and yet it still tells you it needs more players. During this time, you'll see new players come in, wait and then leave. The experienced players know you need to all leave the lobby and then come back. Leaving even one player in there keeps the lobby in its broken state. There is no way to explain this to the new players whose first impression is that the game doesn't have enough players.
For 2.3, FD have balanced the distributor on the Imperial Imp and performed some network changes. Personally I think this balance will not be a positive for the game but even if it is, I think everyone would have preferred the time spent on the match maker and lobby instead.
The perception that CQC is dead is not true but that the match maker is dead is. There's the problem right there.
Ever since i got the game I was never able to get in a match.
