THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Yes. Meta drive was being audited, and the things missing from the audit were the files about the "Exodus Project" and the directors ship. The new Director did some handwavium about the ship being insured and never mentioned the files. Sirius then acquired MetaDrive.
But...from being a "Really good investment" and Sirius getting interested, and it actually being the truth that MetaDrive was in deep financial trouble was not a very long time. Hence the "Market Manipulation" angle mentioned a post or two back.

They do say "Follow the money" in films. :)

Oh, and from Sirius Corp you end up with Faucon Bank. They are evidently in the same bed. I'm running small passenger missions in a dolphin, and there's a lot of this on the visitor beacons. I'm reading them all as it would not surprise me to find clues in plain sight. It's also bringing me up to speed on lore.

This probably has been mentioned, but MetaDrive - does it use Meta Alloys for fuel? (Although it's my understanding it's been developed prior to them being discovered, but that does not really mean they did not know about MA at that time with all the conspiracy theory).

So what happened to the Meta Alloys and Tantalum, someone has asked.

Well, they could have been used to build a prototype of a Meta Drive... Please someone correct me if this was already discussed :)

Also, where can I listen to Teorge logs?

So, what now?

Greetings CMDRs.
I'm about to (try to) be serious, so pay attention because it doesn't happen very often...

The first part of the Formidine Rift saga has come to an end, but there are clearly a whole lot of questions that remain unanswered. In addition, if I'm reading Drew's hints correctly (first time for everything, right?) then we, the Rifters, have the potential to create content by the act of investigation - if you look for it, they will build it, so to speak.
Right now, we're all kind of flapping around, speculating about anything and everything with no real direction and quite honestly, after following the Rift mystery for 18 months, this lack of direction really sucks.

So, I have a proposal for you all:

Let's quit the theorycrafting, tinfoiling and speculation for the moment and sit down and figure out what we actually know, and the questions we want answered. Once we have some kind of consensus ('herding cats' springs to mind) we can use that to create a new 'first page' of this thread. I say 'this thread' because I'd suggest we stick with it until the mods come along and unsticky it ;)
Additionally, lets keep the Thargoids and Guardian ruins out of this thread - leave all that stuff in the Canonn thread so we're not duplicating things.

Right then.

Stuff we know:
All the stuff from the Teorge logs and Zurara - which I'm not going to copy at this point.
Something in the Rift appeared to drive the Dynasty mission guys crazy
Salome is dead - confirmed by Drew 'Machiavelli' Wagar, so we can assume she's still alive ;)
Somebody rescued Salome from the prison convoy

Stuff we don't know:
Formidine Rift
What the Rift 'threat' is?
Is the "Rift threat" the same as the threat the Dynasty conspiracy tried to counter with the Dynasty expedition?
Is the Teorge information correct?
Who is behind the Dynasty expedition?

Salome Bio
Who is behind Salome's rescue?
Why was Salome special (1)? - Octavia and the body swap
Why was Salome special (2)? - What made her running around in the Rift a threat, where we Rifters can do it with impunity

Sirius/Wreaken/MetaDrive
What happened to Commander Falchion, and what link (if any) do they have to Metadrive? - I have no idea who this is :D
Where did all those Sirius Corp automated exploration probes go?
Why was Salome near 46 Eridani? What was she looking for in that area?

Materials
What happened to the meta alloys and tantalum?

Other stuff
We could, if we wanted, run around the Rift (and Hawking/Conflux) looking for ELWs and beacons, but I think that whilst finding them might be fun (assuming there's anything there) they're 'old news' and not going to tell us anything we don't already know.

If anyone has any other facts or questions the feel free to add them - but at this point I'm going to ignore any theories or speculation ;)

Just bumping this for visibility.

Also, where can I listen to Teorge logs?

If they are audio logs then I will shoot myself :) (and never ever play with low volume again) In case they are not then they are here

Yep, I agree something is there and Salomè in her Clipper and luc in his cobra must have got in. I've listened to all the other theories and the non permit systems inside, plus Salomè having a stock of jumporium and Drews tendency for Greek mythology and was just pondering when fussing my cat (whose name is Ariadne) and it got me wondering if we have a jumpable labyrinth in there. But I'd like to run it with jump range to spare and ready for the Minotaur if that's what took luc out. Got enough to buy and fit a conda and do the engineering but would leave me low and I have BGS to grind currently, but I think 46E is the way in.

As to Hyford, there is one in the game. Add him to your friend list and see if he comes back to you. I have just in case we have another npc commander on the prowl. At least if nothing he/she will get a blast at seeing the message.

I poked around the COL 70 sector and could find a single system which is not permit locked, no matter how far inside. Where did this information come from that only the border of the sector is permit locked?

I can't really see this. If they are both clones that is a bit of a co-incidence that they would, out of six trillion people, happen to meet. And if they are it can't be of the same person/each other as they might just have noticed that maybe? Oh look you look like a old version of me? Oh look, you look like a young version of me? Oh look Salome, it's you on the video, how can that be? I don't know Hassan, must be a total co-incidence... hmmm.

I think its possible, R could have recognized Kahina in the hospital, for all we know this meeting could have been arranged by her with the help of Luko. I don't think Kahina would have recognize her older self.

I'd have to scroll back through this thread to find, but a number of people have commented on seeing unlocked systems within the permit locked bubble. May just be a mistake or impossible to get in, but who knows.

Oh, think they have usually said they are HIP systems too if my memory is working right today.

I haven't tried every system of course but a lot and all of them where locked, even HIP systems. I guess if someone finds an unlocked system it would be good to post the name here, until then I consider this a myth.

And the 30 years younger Rebecca in the Imperial data banks?

We don't know if Kahina recognized her at some point, only that she didn't recognized her at the hospital. But would it matter? I think if Kahina was a clone of R (and maybe of a long line of clones before) that she should have learned this at some point.

For my part, I'll just restate what I've said. Col 70 is effectively a huge bubble/sphere (approx 1,000 ly in diameter) however, there are large bubbles within it which are not permit locked. These are not Col 70 sector systems. These include Witchead, Trapezium, Spirograph, Orion Dark, an NGC group and various others. Horsehead Dark is in there but is locked.

When one of the unlocked bubbles is near the edge of the Col 70 bubble, the result is effectively a wall of locked Col 70 systems.

The wall is thin and easily jumpable or even fully breached in places allowing you into the various unlocked bubbles.

What I was not able to find was any unlocked systems completely within a Col 70 piece of space, i.e. where it is surrounded on all sides by permit locked Col 70 systems. I did find plenty of HIPs, etc. completely within Col 70 pieces of space, but all were locked.

Denali may have found some unlocked HIPs completely within Col 70 pieces of space however. Over to Denali for more info on that front.

Been thinking on the clone thing.

If Salomé was a clone of Rebecca, would it be possible that Hassan is a clone of Luko...? I always thought Luko looked unusually fondly on Salomé, perhaps this could explain.

I do believe both Rebecca and Luko to have been members of the Dark Wheel, and Luko always knew more than he let on to Salomé. But it was the emotion Luko gave her that convinced me he wasn't just saving her for some sinister motive - he seemed to genuinely care.

So - Rebecca = Salomé, Hassan = Luko?
