Kickstarter - Physical rewards

Physical Goods - Can I defer paying the extra $15 for now / Pay it later?

Hi

I am considering getting the kickstarter special. Physical goods are included, but there is no way I can justify spending another 15 - at least right now.

Can I select "Do not ship physical goods" and then activate it later for the $15?

If you go for the "Kickstarter Special", then you will be entitled to a physical copy of the game.

I'm sure these will not be sent out until just before release next year (March/April), so nothing to worry about.

If that's not what you mean, log in to the Backers site, and contact them via the link in the top right corner. I'm sure you'll get a quick reply.

Yes - they are fairly quick with replying to legitimate issues - I have some correspondence with them to fix an issue - and it was all sorted within a few days.

Response on this issue

Okay, the response is this :

There is an option to opt out of physical delivery if you wish, however once the web app closes on 6th December it will not be possible to then go back in and pay for international delivery I'm afraid.

Kind regards, Ashley

So, I will have to think about what way to go, I'm short the 15, so no idea what I will do..

Boxed / Physical Edition: What's in the box? [Contents]

Hey everyone!

The topic says it all, as they say. I'm considering the options I have as a late backer of Elite: Dangerous. I'm tempted going for the physical box (originally part of the Kickstarter campaign) once it hits the retail stores - however, I can't find a single piece of information telling me what to expect from the physical edition.

That being said, has Frontier Developments made any kind of announcements saying what the physical box will actually contain? Will the box be a standard DVD-case, or a custom made paper box? Will it contain a manual? If so, will the manual be a standard DVD-style leaflet, or a ring binder book? Will it contain a quick start guide of some sorts, or perhaps a galatic map with points of interest?

Any insight is appreciated!

I asked almost the same thing the other day:

Does anyone yet know what comes 'in the box' with the game?

Such as some form of timeline? IIRC there was one in Frontier.

Which received the response of "we're not too sure" from the forums. DRM has also been discussed, one user never wants to connect his PC to the internet and wanted to know how (if) the DRM would operate and if it was possible. Again a round of uncertainty followed.

But hey, rampant speculation is what we thrive on here, so let's see what happens!

Thank you - it looks, however, like you didn't get a proper response at all :/. Ideally, I'd like to get a list of all the stuff that will be inside the boxed version that'll be available to buy later on (anyone at Frontier reading this willing to sort it out?).

I would hope the boxed version contains ...
* The game on a disc that doesn't want you to download it from a website
* A manual
* A starmap
possibly the official sequel to The Dark Wheel considering that came with the original boxed version of the game.

As for DRM, this is from Kickstarter:

Will the game be DRM-free?
Yes, the game code will not include DRM (Digital Rights Management), but there will be server authentication when you connect for multiplayer and/or updates and to synchronise with the server.

And I'm glad there won't be any DRM, this is flawed technology and doesn't work, it doesn't stop piracy.

I expect the boxed game to work without any internet connection whatsoever. It has been explicitly stated to be DRM-free, and the requirement to connect to a server, authenticate, login, etc. - even if only once - counts quite unambigously as DRM.

Well to be fair he wasn't specific as to the size of paper used for the starmap though....or the size of the box to contain it for that matter. ;)

Alien wakes up early the morning of the release of Elite: Dangerous. He excitedly checks the UPS tracking number "out for delivery"
After an impatient few hours he hears a knock on his door. He jumps up, runs to the door and grabs the signature computer thing from the delivery man.
After he signs it and hands it back the delivery man walksaway without leaving a package.
Confused and beginning to feel angry he gives chase only to be stopped in his tracks.
In his front yard- no- covering his front yard is a huge crate. While walking around it he stumbles over the outstretched arm of the UPS employee extending out from underneath the box, but he doesn't notice.
All he can think about is finding a parking lot to unfold his galaxy map on and find getting his trusty magnifying glass to find LR-4491Alpha!
I apologize for my terrible writing and I mean no offence to Alien. I just thought it was a funny concept

I might be wrong since it was 20 years ago but I think that was what the box to FE2 contained so I'd hope and expect something similar in the box for this version of the game. Not sure about the star map though. I don't think I'd have a wall big enough in my little semi-detached house for something that contains all the stars that will be included in the game ;)

" ... technically ... "?
I've seen many reply posts to you in the last year+ I've been a member, and always smile at people's assumptions, and I imagine you smilling/laughing too :)
