This game desperately needs Player Trading NON pay cosmetics and a TRADE HUB. Really every MMO I have ever seen relies on this simple formula of bringing players togeather. If there was a trade hub where players HAD to go to trade. And NPC missions. Etc other then procedurally generated crap. It would Fix all the talks about Wide as an Ocean Shallow as a puddle.

Unlockable cosmetics would be wonderful, something to aim for other than credits and it would be a great way to show off your achievements. And a trade hub for engineer materials would create an organically populated system with tons of opportunities for social interactions (both good and bad, which is good for an MMO-ish game like Elite).

Wouldn't mind seeing many Outlets throughout inhabited Space (incl. Colonia), all coupled to i.e. the "TradeHub Inc." Corporation.

Drop off what you don't need or want and it goes into the global pool.
Dock anywhere at an Outlet and access the global pool stockpile. Daily allocation per Player and pricing ranges controlled by Frontier's decisions.

No single hotspot, yet many places to go to and a Player-supplied Market (with a minimum "aggregate NPC Supply" to guarantee specific items aren't permanently out of stock).
Yup, something to that tune would work like a charm.

PS.
Some Cosmetics are freebies, like the 3 suit colors. So technically we got some (?)

Not sure I agree actually. Not necessarily opposed, but given how wealthy some players are already (so price is no object for some) I think the horse has probably bolted on such a thing. I'm no expert on such things though.....but I do think there are other more important things to devote development resources to.

I'd love to be able to tell a friend "Oh you need Modified Industrial Firmware? Just head to X, You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany than that place. But they always have what you need!"

I agree, but the common counters still exist.
1.Gold sellers
2.Allowing "power leveling" in terms of transferring credits.

My personal counters
1. no global chat so who cares.
2. Influx of new players that don't have to deal with the first month of grinding to be able to grind at max "efficiency". (yes i understand there is a large portion of the community that enjoys this style of game play, it would have 0 effect on your game play unless you wanted it to)

I doubt it will ever happen. But it would be nice. I'd love to be able to pay a real wage to my crew mates/convoy defenders/RP purposes.

Bring on the chinese gold farmers and all the other rubbish that comes with player to player trading...

No thanks, I would prefer more dynamic and interesting trading mechanics.

I doubt that would happen. Especially if they did it Correctly.

And that would be how?

We already have players that admit, on these forums, that they farm and sell credits after all. I don't see FD having a magic bullet that would stop the influx once people were able to actually easily trade in the game.

Last thing we need is all the problems player trading bring to the game. Especially when the only items a player can trade are not created by them. If there was a fully functional crafting system maybe.

Even then it would lead to Credit Farming and lots and lots of macros/bots slowing down the server. Where there is player trading for in game currency, there are bots, hackers, and Farmers.

WoW is full of them. You can literally pay to win that game.

EVE didnt need farmers as they propped up the trading and made real world profit from their in game currency. They were essentially their own gold farming team. The dev team of this game started the concept of Pay to Win.

Last thing this game needs is more "me too!" features IMHO.

But maybe I'm not understanding the OP. Why would anyone want to go to one of these player-driven Trade Hubs in the first place? Commodities don't *do* anything; their entire purpose in the game is either to be sold for credits or used as McGuffins in various mission objectives. What purpose could a player-driven marketplace possibly serve, *other* than to facilitate transfer of credits between players and/or break the progression system and balance of the game?

Nope.

This game desperately needs a Crime & Punishment system, a re-alignment on the Engineers buffing and more features to Multicrew.

Improve what we already have, not turn this game into a twisted WoW or Eve.

How do you get players to MEET for multi crew with out a main hub? I mean constantly being told there is no content. A Hub would fx that

The unlocking of cosmetics are being tested with the Canon faction.

As for trade hubs no thanks. I do not wish to see WoW in space, it would also be a really great place for griefers to gank other players full of cargo.
