Why are there no MEMERABLE characters? It makes no sense from a designers persective.

I consider them props and the ships are not Memorable they are decidedly forgettable. I think memorable ships would be like the the "Serenity from Firefly" or Slave 1 from star wars. Etc. No offence by the way.
The ships in elite are memorable. at least they are to me.
If it was so , there would have not been elite themed mods for games during the silent years of elite.

You're kind of showing me that this simply isn't the game for you. That old chestnut. Because you constantly compare it to other things, and it's not those other things, it's THIS thing... and clearly it's not your thing. For example; I played WoW for a while, all my mates did, so I kept along for the social aspect. I remember nothing about it, because it wasn't for me. I couldn't tell you the name of anything I saw or used in the 9ish months I played. See what I'm saying?

We don't get experience points, we don't 'level' our characters - we better our ships. The ships are the stars, the characters, and I'll bet you 10 bucks you will remember their names for years to come.

But it was the same for everyone. every single player was ''the one true hero'' every snigle player saved the world. its silly.

Memorable characters don't have to mean that you are the only hero "The ONE" It simply means DEPTH to existing characters or adding characters with DEPTH. NO one mentioned WOW. I DID NOT MENTION WOW. I am not talking about WOW.. Story does not have to imply a HERO coming of age. Like holy crap. Story and depth does not mean a singular type of hero story. I'm starting to think that this community lacks depth. When I'm watching game of thrones for example. There is no ONE hero. But there are lot's of characters with Depth.

I am not ''defending'' it. I am expressing why its unique , different and has hold my intrest for 3 years and counting.

Instead of following a path that was pre made for me , I made my own.
I played with the BGS , I ended up being an alliance patriot and had many run-ins with hudson supporters.

I have many stories to tell. like avoiding a player made blockade with a damaged cobra MKIII.
Or that time someone interdicted me because they needed help with something.

Or that time I saved a CMDR by killing off the skimmers on a base he was attacking.

Thats all content. thats all stuff that happened and was more intresting because it was not planned.

I love games like MassEffect , DeusEx , and love the StarWars movies. (and the canon in genral) but elite lets me be me , instead of being luke , joker or some important dude I am just me. to be important I must become important. and there are only like 9 important players in the game. and thats epic.

Its not because you dont like it that there is nothing in the game.
Most games bore me , I dont get invested because I find the world dull or the gameplay too simple and easy so I just leave.
But I have been playing Elite dangerous from 2014 in its beta. I have spent thousands of hours in it.

Most games dont even get 5 out of me. (unless you are unique like MassEffect , TES , UT99 etc)

you're dogmatic and the Devs asked for feedback and ideas. This is how NEW IDEAS are made.

I don't agree with you because they DEVS asked for new ideas and Feedback. Unless you are a dev for frontier how can you tell me exactly what this game is about when they are always adding more stuff and trying to impliment new ideas? I don't understand why you're being so dogmatic. It's stubborn and unimagintive and it kills growth. Embrace new ideas. Live in the moment be okay with change. << This is what growth is.

You brush off everybody that doesn't agree with you as a fanboy. I believe the mod was adressing everybody when he said to keep it civil.
Because I think Privata is making a fair point here; this isn't a single player story driven game. It's a life size galaxy, procedurally generated, with thousands of commanders. You just can't create a realistic storyline for everybody. This is not that kind of game.
If that makes it a bad game to you, then that's fair. But it is what it is. I really can't see how they could introduce villains and heroes, and a story in which every commander can participate in a meaningful way.
If you have some concrete and practical ideas about how this could be implemented, I'm genuinely interested in them.
 

Not that I think the game is invulnerable to reducing player numbers (it's innevitable, it's not a mainstream title by any stretch of the imagination) but quoting posts from more than a year ago isn't helping your fight.

You're correct though, this game isn't character-driven particularly, because none of its lore or story is presented directly to the players. But I doubt that's got anything to do with players leaving the game.

I was talking about WOW because someone else was.

There is depth in elite dangerous.
Like I said there are the books , there is GalNet , there are the lore articles , the voice acting found around genships.

For example delaine
He became a powerfull pirate at the age of 15 and started to grow his empire out of just one system until he had infulance all over.

Its not much , but how else can they tell the story?

We cant have cutscenes because we play from our PoV and the game moves in real time. so you cant go back and play a ''mission'' or level from 5 days ago.
If we did have them , I would be against it. unless it was voice acted GalNet news. that would be epic.

Its part of the game that you see the game from the perspective you would have if you lived in the universe.

Of course GoT is epic , but outside of a long bio and some text there is not much they can do in elite that would not break immersion.

The stories in elite have been awesome so far and they felt like I was living in a living breathing universe. its not perfect , it needs more work , but its better at that than all MMOs apart from maybe EVE (but EVE has those stupid scripted missions that serve to only kill immersion and cause time travel)

No you seem to think I am agressive because you have an IDEA in your head. That has nothing to do with me. I am disagreeing with a someone.

Your own emotional state does not make me agressive or not agressive. I am simply me. My personality may seem abrasive to you. But that's most likely cultural in nature.

Maybe you're not Irish maybe you are. Maybe you're not Irish Canadian. Maybe you are. Maybe you did not grow up in a community that is assertive. Maybe you did. Whom am I to say.

I backed the game because I wanted a dynamic universe free of scripted missions with linear paths.

Do you know about the plans FD has for the game ? or even what style of game they are trying to make? its trying to be the oposite of a themepark MMO.

So what do you want them to do?
Add cutscenes ?
Story missions ?

Give us examples of what you mean. instead of calling us names.

I have given a lot of feedback about the game , about elements I hate FD dont have to listen to us , its there vision.
If one day it becomes something I dont like , I will just leave without a fuss.

NPC protagonists and antagonists do work well in a linear game, like Wing Commander or Freelancer. ED isn't a linear game.

Then there's the thing about CMDRs murdering memorable characters just because.
