Dear Fdevs : What ARE you working on right now?

I see a lot of people asking for hints of the plans, what i haven't seen is a hint of the dates when we will see the hints of the plans..

Right now a statement like this would alleviate a lot of tension..

"We are planing/hoping to give more details on 2.4 on the xxTH of Jxxx 201x"

Hey Ifred and all.

I just wanted to post a very quick reply on here to let you know that we are absolutely listening. We know that the community have been asking for some more news on the development and roadmap of Elite. The team are still very busy working on content and improvements and we're hoping to be able to share some more details as soon as possible.

Thanks for your patience.

As this reveals neither planned content nor any dates, it says FD is aware of the situation and is listening to us. For me thats at least something. :)

And they never say anything if they even agree, consider, ponder or disagree with any of our questions.

They listen but never answers.

And IF they answer they add a mechanic not really asked for that merely solves PART of an issue (Karma vs a comprehensive crime and punishment system that actually gives BETTER gameplay for those who wants to BE criminals).

It's not all about running around with a gun shooting stuff. I prefer to call it First Person Perspective play, which is technically what we have at the moment, but for some reason out bottom is welded to the chair and we can't move. There is a lot you can do with FPP gameplay on legs. There are already a lot of RPGs that are first person, and don't rely on shooting everything. I play the Elder scrolls first person style, and manage to do a lot of playing without fighting all the time.
I think it's not a question, if 'space legs' work without any shooting mechanics. It's a question, what FDev let's us do with 'space legs'. Since we have exactly 0 things, that would be more interesting to do in first person, I don't look forward to it. Even more so when looking at the current, unfinished state of the game. I don't need more unfinished game mechanics.

FD. All we need is some news! Just give us an update in regard to what you are working on. If its coming to an end (As the salt miners seams to be offering), then that is sad but your players deserve to know. If you have some excellent content planned (and a timescale) then let the player base in on the news. Either way the "news" good or bad would put everyone out of there misery.
Surely the PS4 launch will allow revenue for further development. Just give us some information!!!!!!!

It shows they are listening.. which means they are looking at the forums they set up.. good they aren't totally suicidal.

What have we learnt here?

Nothing.

Stop the press, company looks for feedback.

Lets say FD opened the doors, allowed us full access to future and current content.
This idea everything would be fine is way off,it would bring fourth a whole new level of complaints, arguing the finer details.
We can't be trusted to handle any information.
We've proved our collective hive mind is an idiot.

I should imagine FD's priority right now is getting the Elite PS4 release out of the door. As any future content updates are going to need to be coded for the PS4 version too, I think maybe that is having a delaying effect, with all else on the back burner at the moment until PS4 version is done.

Any news on new content that FD are working for future release I suspect they might want to keep under wraps to announce at the E3 Expo, 13-15 June.

I think you will find that about 90-98% (no sure of exact figure) of the code will be the same for the PS4, the Xbox and the PC. So the people developing the gameplay additions and/or extra features are not the same people working on the PS4 port. It's the same team that work on the Xbox team that is working on the PS4. The Cobra Engine is designed to work on all the main formats, so its a case of creating a client that works with the PS4 OS and hardware, and most of the existing code. Different people for different jobs.

I can say that both with and without informations.
It's really a lose-lose situation.
So I'd personally prefer that the few who can handle not guaranteed informations could have a prospective of where we're going

Think people are asking for information because this isn't a one off game like most.

Prey for example - all you'll expect is the base game and any glaring patches to be addressed. Play - finish and put on the shelf.
Then maybe a DLC if you're that way inclined but frankly that's it. Wait for Prey 2 and off we go again.

With Elite however we're "hopefully" in it for the long haul.....but where IS the long haul progression?????

As always the reason that the forums are full of negativity is because you've all stopped playing the game to complain.
The vast majority of people are too busy playing to post.

Ergo, forums aren't to be used as a representation of the playerbase as a whole, nor as the basis for any sweeping changes.

I get a similar message when I phone BT to inform them that my internet service on this small island is still crap and has broken down again....

"Thank you for calling BT, your call is important to us. We are experiencing a large volume of calls at the moment; Please call back later or press the #key for ringback."

It's almost as if FDev and the community managers have suddenly become a call centre....Next, Frontier will relocate their community management services to India and spam my phone with calls about central heating boilers

Why would they care in the least about random conversations on reddit when they have their own forum that they frequently participate in?

Because the forum is an echo-chamber of nodding fan-boys... and that Reddit post has nearly 1000 up-votes, it's representitive of the general mood of the community. FDev would be foolish to ignore it.

It is? Considering the amount of critical posts in regards to several core mechanics I can hardly agree.

FD have a community team yes? why are they not engaging with the community? Surely that is their job?

They are engaging with the community. They post on the forums and play CQC once a week. It's just that this isn't really what the community seems to be after.
