News Elite Dangerous - 2.4 and beyond

So no atmo-planets or legs on sight, just polishing existing features.
2.4 update when released being slowly discovered over few months i guess it will be something like we had with alien ruins and not big scale invasion.
Thanks for finally being clear of Elite future in the next two years now i can stop following news and move on other games.

Veterans of this game have always wanted FD to focus on fully fleshing out the core gameplay mechanics before adding any more bolt-on features to the stack. The ability to walk around in-game as well as landing on Earth-Like worlds has always been a year or more away even before this latest news.

Not sure where the misinformation about these features coming out any minute came from, but that has always been misinformation and totally wrong.

If shelving ED and moving on to other games is your choice at this point, by all means go for it if that makes you feel any better. I'd set your calendar reminders for mid to late 2018 for the possibility of atmospheric landings, and 2019 for the so-called "Space-Legs or Elite Feet" addition.

Thank you for this post FD, it has brighten my day for sure.

Most of people will appreciate any kind of communication, and even negative comments in this thread are comming from entusiasts that are just expecting Elite to reach it's full potential as we all are aware how good it could be.

You have amazing foundation for something great in the future, just do your best and remember us much more often.

It would be great if you can maybe introduce some kind of sneak peak in Elite launcher with some random images that doesn't even need explanation, just some random prtscreens of your monitor views with the stuff you are working on or something like that.

Really? The "Fanboys" were all blind to any ED faults and didn't want changes and improvements?

Yes they were. Any criticism of the game was met with fanboys claiming people where wrong, they were whiners, all they do is complain, the game is fine as it is, just use imagination, there is no grind etc... etc.... etc...

FD didn't see it and thanks to "you" we now have it?
Well not just me obvs but sustained pressure has caused FD to respond with this statement. If people didn't complain about the lack of depth in the core features do you think we would have gotten this announcement? I don't think so, it would have been business as usual, FD dropping lackluster bolt ons and fanboys claiming they're the best thing since sliced bread.

As a "fanboi" I should start whiny threads on the same thing, day after day, threatening to rage quit if improvements are made to the core game system? I...I...*urp*

Well it wouldn't surprise me, fanboys are extremely weird people in my eyes. You do what you want though. I, unlike the fanboys, do not want to suppress anyone's right to post whatever they want (within moderation rules) on the forums.

"We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players."

THIS x 1000 :D

I don't care about space legs running around on some barren planet, or getting out of my ship to play Call of Duty. What makes Elite Dangerous the best game ever are all the space ships, and how GOOD the flight model is. Don't get me wrong, more features that adds variety to the game are great and all, but the reason I keep playing is simply because I love flying space ships, and no other game lets you have this much fun doing it.

For your own sake I highly suggest you step away from the keyboard and go out for some air and sunshine.

Rep to you mate. Fanboyism is part of the general issue that kept this game lagging behind its promises for 3 years now, and the level of fanboyism amongst Elite's community in particular is quite sickening. Guys turning on with every word a dev says, no matter if it's an informative one or just a "hello", are a kinda pathetic spectacle to watch. Unfortunately, they've been the ground FDev relied on for way too long before realizing the rest of the community was falling apart and their game as a whole was rushing head down into a concrete wall. This announcement, however short on real information as it is, is at least the first official public acknowledgement that there's something deeply wrong with Elite.

Because I gave the money to Frontier, not to Apple. Metal is the changing factor here, which for whatever reason FD chooses to ignore.

Don't mean to hurt you dude, but Apple and video games have a long past of being mostly incompatible and the trend's not likely to change. The only advice anybody here can give is to move to a PC and leave your Mac for everything else except games.

Not factual I'm afraid. There are plenty of games that run on macOS and ED is one of them. Horizons is the issue here.

As pathetic and sickening as reading statements like "the community is falling apart" and "game as a whole is rushing head down into a concrete wall" and "there's something deeply wrong with Elite" every single time a new patch is out or when a dev post in the forums. Oh, wait...

Well looks like community in the end won...

OPEN BETA = Major Upgrade, more people to test, more bug reports filled, more stuff corrected for release.

2.4 = I still don't know... from what it seems the whole update is about a secret that we will unveil.

Major post 2.4 = Great Core gameplay extended , that what this game REALLY needs. Let's only hope this is 2.0 level Upgrade and not 2.3...

I will hold my horses to the so called E3 and see if we can get a cleaner look at it before hyping or raging about it.

FDev please continue communicating, RE OPEN Dev blogs , RE open Newsletters...

An idea for you guys. The same way that you guys did the 2.3 QAs on stream , bring those TO THE FORUM. post a thread asking people to make question about X mecanism or X topic and some developer will awnser as most as he can on the Friday or something like that. (OFC make it post limited to 1 for everyone. to make it less chaotic.)

+1 When i look back at what FD envisioned for this game at kickstarter and i look at what the game is right now, it is easy to see how caving in to fanboyism has warped the game into something almost unrecognisable compared to the great vision FD had.

Greetings Commanders,

2.3.10

The first thing I’d like to share with you is that we will be adding another point update on June 27, this will be for all platforms and will include a number of bug fixes, and stability and networking improvements. This includes the much-requested Anaconda cockpit appearance change and will also introduce greater security for multicrew hosts to be able to disable or limit crew members’ specific activity.

One large element of this point update is a number of “under the hood” fixes which are designed to improve stability and performance, particularly on planet surfaces. This means that we will be looking to run a beta for 2.3.10. .

Can you please get rid of wire frame for the next update please... back like the 2.2 beta system map

I don't think it's reasonable to blame fans for what FDEV have delivered. Did anyone spot PP, CQC, Engineers or multicrew before FDEV announced them?

It is however reasonable to attribute some of the changes to community feedback, for example the changes to Engineers and the yo-yo'ing that is their attempt to balance npc interdictions. So, some good, some less so.

I think it's a very positive sign that FDev seem to have done a bit of mature reflection, I'm sure in part due to constructive feedback, whether from those labelled fanbois or haters, and are looking to build the core experience.

For my part I'd like to see surface scanning, exploration and navigation given a good buff. Having the DSS reveal and list on the navigation panel, all points of interest and even rare fields of deposits, would be a good start. ymmv
