I am sad :(

It's all on EDSM.net

There you go. Despite your CMDR's fate being a darn tragedy at least the data is safe on EDSM/EDDB/EDDN - which for all intents and purposes is more relevant and prominent than anything we currently have in-game. I know, it still sucks, but that data is a fine and much appreciated contribution to the exploration community.

Youch. Condolences, CMDR! o7 -- This is why I'm super paranoid. I know it's only a matter of time before I make a big mistake, but I try to mitigate that with some simple practices. For instance, I never point right at a planet/star/body when scanning (unless I'm close enough to require it, such as the primary star on arrival, in which case I throttle to zero while still in witch space). I always have myself pointed just past the exclusion zone, no matter how fast or slow I'm moving, just in case of a network hiccup or loss of control due to my cats pulling out a USB cable, or who knows what. But there's only so much you can plan for. (and this is coming from a guy who leaves orbit lines turned off, which of course also turns off the exclusion zone lines)

Ouch! Condolences, CMDR.

Fully scanning 4000 systems is an incredible amount of effort and data.

and sooooooo....there should be a rather large data chache bobbing in that area that we can get......never understood why we cant "steal' the data from these....instead of just 5000 bucks the less moral of us should be able to claim the data as our own as it is still valid data after all
if I find gold floating in space I sell it for gold prices for example

one cmdrs misfortune could be another cmdrs windfall.

that said I feel for you...my worst like this was smashing my asp into a planet a qtr of the way back from Jaques with a hold full of "magic" stills (rares)

so somewhere out the there should be a POI with a scattering of rares for the next lucky explorer....shame about no persistence eh!

For those asking, I always kept my FSD above 95% by repairing after every 4 or 5 neutron jumps. The rest of my modules were 100% bar my hull at 96%.
I fell too close the NS and could not get out again. The credits dont really matter but the explorer rank I would have gained and the 4K+ systems that were fully explored are gone :(

No matter how good you are I'm convinced the game will RNG you at points (few and far between). For example I was out on an 18 month exploration trip.
Can you imagine how many times I scooped in that trip?
Thousands...
BUT there were some anomalies -- I was dropped out on routine scooping doing nothing different whatsoever than I've been doing for months.
Everything was the same as always but I still somehow got effed.
Therefore I limited my NS play in a big way WD too.
