Resigned from The Code

I remember when I opposed GF in everything, somewhere over the years... I came to respect his position enough to the point I was considering the logistics of a joint-CG.

Yeah, similar for me Jeff, in the early days I was very outspoken against the Code and, as their mouthpiece, Gluttony, too. Over time my position mellowed somewhat as I came realise that despite several high profile, and in my view unsavoury, in game shenanigans, The code were, for the most part, being proper pirates. Gluttony too, by his own admission, mellowed quite a bit from his earlier preaching, psycho analytical self and moved towards us, the community. This all culminated for me in sending Gluttony an apology around 8-12 months ago, I had been harsh and unfair on The Code and on GF in particular.

Gluttony, from reading between the lines of some of your posts in the last year or so I'm surprised you lasted this long to be honest. More and more you were coming across as the voice of reason in a group that neither wanted or adhered to such. Good luck to you sir wherever you end up in Elite Dangerous, The Code are much, much poorer without you and you have been freed from the obligation to try and defend the sometimes virtually indefensible.

Kudos on having principles and as the saying goes, don't let the bar stewards get you down.

A long time ago I felt inspired to write an Ode to The Code which I re-present here for posterity!

A grain of sand is dropped from a great height onto a still pond of water from the hands of a furry one eyed Lion.
As it breaks through the surface ripples begin to flow outwards covering the once clear surface.
As they reach the side of the pond they are compelled to return to the centre creating more ripples as they collide with each other.
The once still pond is now awash with ripples reflecting off of each other, what was once calm is now a stormy sea.
As time slips by the ripples lose energy & momentum, they die down until all again is calm & still.
The grain of sand gently settles on the bottom of the pond with the rest of its kind. “Did I cause that?” wonders the grain of sand, chuckling to itself.

This is The Code. ;)

Hello,

Today marks the day that I resign from The Code after witnessing the passing of five captains since the founding captain of the organization.

There are unfortunately values that the currently Code supports and uphold that I feel inappropriate to represent, namely the allowance of mode invasion. Therefore I feel it was only appropriate for me to leave the organization, especially after being referred to as an "unneeded public apologist".

I hope that The Code will prosper after my leave, regardless the fact that it has deviated from The Code I once knew and represented. I wholeheartedly hope that The Code will not become a replica of SDC in the days to come.

Please do not message me in an attempt to gather intelligence on The Code. Its secrets die with me, it's the minimum respect I can offer a place I used to call home for the last two years.

Sincerely,

Gluttony Fang

Sorry to hear this mate, you're the only reason I have any respect for Code members to start with.
It's a shame Maj is on a path to get himself and as many Code members as possible banned - as FDev did make it clear that mode invasions are a no go, open is there for their antics (as it should be) and private groups are to be left to their own gameplay.

It's a shame those supporting him cannot see that is the only outcome of this. Forcing FDev to intervene really isn't going to go the way they want, as it is easier and cheaper for Frontier to just boot them to appease the community rather than fix the C&P system - which is what I assume they actually want, like the rest of us.

Anyway, I wish you luck with your endeavours. You should start your own group, not only could it be an interesting challenge for you but you never know what it could become :)

Regards

Jock

I was always entertained by your justifications for the selfish thugish actions of The Code and respected the verbal gymnastics required for that task.

If you are looking for a new job then I'm sure that the next time Sean Spicer hides in the bushes he won't be coming back out <grin>

Vorgon invasion confirmed ! :D

OP, it's definitely not a nice feeling when something you hold dear loses its appeal. But does the Code actually have a code, or just a list poorly veiled RPG excuses used to grief and gank people? Anyway, good luck in all you do in ED old boy! :)

Sad to hear this. Hope you're staying active on the forums, as it was nice to have someone who shared a similar viewpoint to myself.

To be clear, FDev have never stated anything close to this. They have said that it's up to the PG owners to clean their own house. If, however someone is banned and then circumvent that ban (e.g. by using an alt-account), then and only then will FDev step in and take action like Shadow Banning players.

There's always the same solution that was used on SDC after their mode invasion of Mobius, get a bunch of care-bears together and erase their minor faction from the background sim. Not only was SDC's only station flipped but they asked FDEV to remove their faction to prevent further similar kickings.

According to Inara the Code's only station is Sharon Lee Free market in the Orrere system, which is an anarchy so there's no fines to pay for hunting down all Code NPC ships to lower their influence.

Add controls and limitation settings to private groups and the issue could be eliminated completely. <You have slain a Festering Drama Beast! You gain experience.>

Just my opinion (two cents worth) here, mind you, but I don't really see there being such a thing as "mode invasion" in and of itself, since you need to be invited in to private groups. On the one hand you have insufficient scrutiny and consequences, and on the other you have meta-gamers seeking cheap thrills and childish notoriety.

It's a bit of a silly mess and I'm certainly glad it isn't something I'd unwittingly subject myself to nor take part in.

I understand some people play this game for different reasons than I do, and to some of them, this sort of meta-gaming doesn't seem to register on their radars. It's just playing the game to them.
Then they need to learn some moral values.

An organisation is only as good as its propaganda; so I guess things will only be going down hill from now, for the Code.
