Small Worlds Expedition 2!

This sounds fun, but I was wondering if is it possible to join at a certain way point or do you have to be there right from the start (I won't be able to play the first 10 days in June, but I don't have a problem with playing "catch-up" a few days)?

Cheers,
CMDR Igor Rock (or, more precise, CMDR Vincent La Vache in this case - which is my third account which I would use for this ;) )

Sorry for no update on registration list; just had a MASSIVE surge in registrations. I will update it tomorrow.

I will however share stats again!

So I've been very uncomfortable in most of the ships that are good for exploration and have been working hard to fix up my courier for good travel capabilities. (The irony is I have a perfectly good clipper which, needless to say, is quite travel capable, I just don't feel very comfortable in it. My courier is my ship and the others are just temporary when needed only.) Right now, fully outfitted (planetary vehicle hanger and the defenses and weaponry to take down an anaconda solo,) I'm getting a minimum of 27 LY jumps. (I'm fully aware I could lower weight further or even outright strip it bare like most people do and get way over 30 easy, but I sort of feel like it's running around naked in public. Even on a private group. Plus I just plain like keeping my ship fully prepared for every task I use it for at all times instead of switching back and forth all the time.) I'm planning on setting off on a journey, but I think in a different direction. Still, it's not like I couldn't start off in this direction first and then turn away at the end. It's definitely a much smaller trip than the one to Colonia (well, I've never used the neutron highway or stations along the way that have been found/added in recent times.) Since it's only a bit over 2000LY, this really isn't far out of the way for what I had in mind anyway and I assume has some fun value to it along the way. (EDIT: Just for fun I plugged in changes in EDCD shipyard to strip the ship bare for travel with zero ability to defend itself and if I throw out the vehicle hanger and minimize everything I can actually get it over 40LY jump range. Lol, not bad for a courier and its tiny little class 3 FSD anyway. I just don't feel comfortable flying around naked though! I'll put up with my 27 LY jump range, lol.)

But I am a little uncertain as to what exactly this is. I presume there's more to it than just simply meeting up a few times to say hello after all. Do we do anything along the way besides simply meeting at fixed times? I was definitely not in the original expedition (honestly I had never heard of it) so I don't know anything about it and there weren't any real details in the original post here.

Another question I have is, if I get impatient and want to drop out (I'm not saying I will, just if. It's just that often enough I'd rather travel some 1500LY or so in a long session rather than 300LY in a short session and stop) how much trouble would it be (if any)? Again, I'm not saying I will -- on the one hand this could be a bit impatience inducing but on the other hand it leaves plenty of room for just playing a bit each day without it being stressful, so there is definitely that -- just if.

PS. I saw this on Twitter because I can't really get on Facebook anymore and I don't really browse the forums a lot. It's kind of irritating, but stuff like this gets mentioned very very rarely on Twitter and often after it's too late. Obviously I'm quite late to the party here, but that's because I only just now read about it a few minutes ago. I really kind of wish things like these were posted more often and more quickly. Anyway, the point is that with events like these I think people should tell the admins of the ED twitter page or something so they post these more frequently.

Yeah, totally wasn't expecting FDev to share on Facebook and Twitter, kind of crazy! But now makes my job more difficult haha.

The only reason I never recommend weapons is just for the sake of "wasting" jump range. Especially, as you mention going back and forth the bubble, even a few Ly, can add up to additional hours at the end of the day. Your call of course. I just can't recommend them for that nature of just slowing anyone down for no use.

Definitely check out the discord channel: https://discord.gg/UjBsxxb
That is where all of the activity is, Discord if you haven't used before is very easy to use, and there's always someone around to help. But that's where to be to take part in activities etc.
They don't get shared too often in the forum, because we use voice channels on discord to discuss etc. where we are meeting and what we're up to.

As far as heading back to the bubble; definitely not an issue, there are certainly no restrictions when it comes to what you actually do on the expedition. Nobody is tied to anything, if you join us for a few waypoints and realize it's not your thing, no worries! We just hope that everyone can have a good time so that's what we aim for, but, at the end of the day, still not a for-everyone kind of event.

That was quite some read but it kept me busy while runnign server maintenance tonight :)
I've not played ED for quite a while (like just before horizons even though i prepurchased the season pass DUH) but this looks like a really fun re-entry although there's so many terms being thrown about that I think I've missed some pretty big changes it's going to be like a whole new game again.
Ship crew - do i have to pay crew to man my ship?
Dolphins
planetary landing and SRVs
engineering?
what the hell is Jumponium?
Nameplates? - i think I want some of them

I've a couple of ships knocking around some place, will a fairly stock build work for SWE2?

How do I find how many hours i have for the registration form?
If I can find myself in game and ready to rock & roll is it ok to miss th emain start at WP0? I Have visitors for the weekend.

No small ships have crew members (only ships with fighter bays).
As long as you own Horizons, you can land on planets with the blue half ring around them on the system map (as you've stated you purchased, so you have access)
Dolphins are allowed; they are a small landing pad ship.
Engineers; if you have them, use them! At least try to unlock Farseer, as she can give your FSD increased range (otherwise, if you want high jump range, I will highly recommend a Diamondback Explorer)
When people refer to jumponium they are referring to synthesis in the right panel, in your inventories tab, which will increase your range at cost of materials you have gathered.

Not a single "default" build will work, I don't even think a single stock ship can jump over 10Ly..... you will DEFINITELY want to check out the ship-build document and the coriolis builds (links on right of document).

Hours played I usually track through steam, but the game does track for you, in the right panel.

WP0 will certainly be the most fun and significantly largest; however, WP1 is visually the best, most enjoyable waypoint, in T Tauri.

Ship crew - one of the latest features allows multiple players to operate one ship. Not much use to small ships, but some, such as tehCobra and Adder, can allow other players to join your crew.
Dolphin - new passenger ship.
Landings and SRV - Horizons feature content. Currently we can land on airless worlds and drive around in a small buggy. Lots of fun!
Engineering - new NPC's that can do very crazy things to your ships modules. Requires lots of time and effort though.
Jumponium - Magical FSD boosts using materials gathered in your SRV. Can provide a one shot 25%, 50% or 100% range increase.
Nameplates - purchased from the Frontier store. Allows you to display your ship name and your ship.

Hours played is in your right menu stats screen, under the exploration section. It's displayed in weeks/days/hours played.

No worries. I'm bringing weapons because of an OCD thing. What if I run into some crazy cult out there that decided they own a system and anyone who enters it must be chased to the ends of the universe and eliminated before they can tell anyone? ... Ok, won't happen. *Cough* Anyway, I just don't feel right without them. At 27 LY jump range I can not only make those waypoints, but with plenty of time and room to spare. Actually, the weapons are on light mounts for obvious reasons, so the vehicle hanger bay actually weighs me down the most outside of stuff like shields and utility mounts added together. But, seriously, I do _NOT_ like PvP. I'd defend myself if attacked, but chances are anyone attacking is in a souped up anaconda or something and I'm just going to get out of there (now let's see an anaconda keep up with me when I try to run, lol. Few things can match a courier for speed.) I fully intend to go through this whole thing without firing a single shot even by accident.

So I guess I'll officially join in with my courier, Mujoujinsoku if you'd like. EDIT: I'm also PC.

A month ago I got my first iCourier, started engineering it up mostly for combat and decided I liked it. Then saw SW2 and decided I'd join up and fly a Courier. Not very pragmatic but I think it will be fun.

Engineering a Courier for exploration is a completely different loadout, so instead of modifying my ship, I just bought another one. Currently I am getting 35 LY and close to 500 boost speed, with decent shields, SRV hangar, and a heat sink launcher. But no weapons. I've played the last few weeks in Open doing the engineering work, and flying without weapons at all is new for me.

Like Nazo I feel a bit nekkid without weapons. Even in RL I live in a place where anyone can carry weapons, open or concealed, without a permit. Love it.

So, I may submit to my OCD and add a couple of lightweight pulse lasers. Haven't decided. There really isn't much need for it other than the comfort of knowing you can draw a weapon if things go bad. But I've been on several exploration trips and never used weapons.

Oh no. I'm sorry. I said all that, but I looked at the times more carefully and just realized that they'll conflict with my work schedule as well as when I sleep. Well, I thought it would be fun, but I think it would just be too hard to catch any of the meetups.

BTW, for the record, IRL I hate weapons and don't really agree with the whole open carry mentality. IRL there are no shields for one. But also, it's because Elite Dangerous is exactly the sort of universe IMO we should avoid IRL that I feel like going around without weapons and shields is like being naked.

It's not yet in the front page, but...

I will be hosting an EU meet up at 1900 UTC (jumping at 2000) as a member of the admin team, those folks who can't make the 0000 one.

OP Updated with registration listing. Cracked SWE1, we now have 350 registered!

Reminders are, REQUEST PERMISSIONS TO PRIVATE GROUP!

We only have a little over 200 on the PG, and seem to be down well over 100 users.

OP has also been updated to reflect the 19:00 EU weekday meetup times hosted by CMDR Ravstar52
(bear in mind, the 00:00 UTC meetup is also happening for our majority US users)

That's totally fine. I'm in the same position. The meetups are completely optional and if you're straggling a bit you'll probably find some other commanders in the same position on the Discord server.

Thanks.
I'll dust off the HOTAS (probably need some WIN10 patches for it) and find out where the heck I parked my whateve it was I was drivng last. If i can get a few hours in over the next couple of evenings and reach WP0 this side of christmas (i'm prone to slight exageration) then I'm in.

do I need to register before being able to join the private group and Discord? at this point I've no idea what I'll be flying. Might have to buy something new

At the moment we are whitelisting the PG, so if you haven't registered, you will not be accepted into the group.
Registration will be open until next Friday.

Be aware; launch is THIS Saturday.
