THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

G'Day commanders,

Been flat out and haven't played elite for a bit, was curious if anyone had gone to check out "The Midas" in the Zeus system for anything suspicious? It is a "Wells-class carrier" that arrived after the fancy folk had the shindig the other week. I was meaning to check it out but hadn't been in game to do so, wondering if anyone here paid it a visit?

Galactic News: Zeus Bureau Appeal Concludes

26 MAY 3303

A spokesperson for the Zeus Bureau has announced that its appeal for luxury goods has reached a successful conclusion. Hundreds of tonnes of commodities were delivered to KatherineB over the week, following an enthusiastic response from the galactic community.

As the initiative drew to a close, the organisation released a statement:

“Every pilot who responded to our appeal has our sincerest gratitude. Thanks to you, the event was an unalloyed triumph.”

Reports indicate that the event’s success has already had a positive impact on the economy of Zeus, as evidenced by the fact that The Midas, a Wells-class carrier, has relocated to the system. It is hoped that the vessel will remain in the region to serve as a commercial hub.

Pilots who contributed to the initiative can now collect their rewards from KatherineB in the Zeus system.

I did wonder if the Midas is the get away ship for the Dynasty conspirators. Might be worth trying to get the passenger list! Or UA bombing it perhaps??? (does it have a BM?)

Could be, I thought originally it was just a big "we are so rich and powerful and much better than you" ship. There could be something like galnet articles or missions for a unique faction, that may lead somewhere. If not, bombs away! So much Greek myth makes my brain tingle though, surely its related in someway?

Or maybe landing on it will give us a gold skin for our ships haha you never know!

UA bombing would just scare them away.

Just wait and observe. Keep silent, blend in with the surroundings. Wait until somebody makes a mistake and use that to your advantage.
And it will happen if it hasn't already, someone will slip up. They are getting cocky, throwing big celebratory parties and the like. I'm wondering which factions are in the system and on the mega ship itself? I'm gonna have to try and get on and check myself, have been giving the situation some thought and I have many questions that are best answered by personal observation I reckon.

Thanks, Blu Wolve, for posting. Hadn't seen this.
Anyone else think that an "unalloyed triumph" is a REALLY curious choice for words?

Already got a gold paintjob for my AspX but rarely use it, prefer the red pharoah look.

Yes, though it's not uncommon for galnet posts to be strange. Which might mean they are intended to be clues, but very abstruse if so.

see https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/us/unalloyed so could be pukka, but could also be referring in a sideways way to meta-alloys, perhaps a hint at metadrive and Raan Corsen/Salomé's efforts to disclose the truth behind Dynasty?? But that seems to be stretching it.

Where the heck have Corsen Tsing and Nakamura disappeared to? Is Luco & Rebecca still alive? Reason I ask is that thinking about premonition, its most likely going to end at some point surrounding the events of the 29th. Ergo there isn't any new narrative to lead us onto the next chapter.

He has already stated that there are things in the book that are considered spoilers for upcoming content in the game (as of right now) that wont be spoilers once the book is released. It goes beyond Salome's murder.

Rebecca is definitely dead, having been interred at Tionisla Orbital Graveyard in her ancient Cobra last year. Luco probably is since we got a Fed LP news release in galnet of the destruction of an old Cobra in the Col70 sector after his & Salomé's theft of the 20t of MA at OO, which is annoying as it seems to be a tease as we cant get in there anywhere; unless it is possible to get the permit somehow, since FD have said its almost impossible to enter.

Excuse me but could you be more precise ? Where/when did FDev say this ? It's very interesting at the point it could even bring me back to the game ! :)

Most of the last logs in fr were same date 29/11, the sidey is interesting as it was at a beacon with no hyperdrive and went off to a Elw, there is a terraformable hmc planet in same system. But no Elw in the 4 systems I think?

Try 20 t MA in a cobra mk III, perhaps they got an Fsd upgrade on the way there, what route was it, from prism? Maybe some tantalum too...
Is there a graveyard in tionisla, or just a comms point.

Back on the rift, how did the logs end up at the settlements, maybe they were further out towards the zuara when 29/11 happened, the sidey ele log is most interesting, a beacon, no hyperdrive and Elw...
What date is zuara log?
Has anyone plotted a timeline on the map based on the log dates and descriptions, assuming an old fsd jump range. Can it be estimated where they were on the 29th Nov? 4 ships, 1 left zuara.

The Orbital Graveyard is supposed to be in-game (think it features in a couple of the official books), and is on FD's to do list, but they've not committed to when.

Community Goal: The Battle for Jotunheim

01 JUN 3303

Recent reports from Jotunheim indicate that the Autocracy of Jotunheim, an Imperial-aligned organisation, has entered the system with a remit to bring it under Imperial control.

Regional authorities have opposed the incursion, and have authorised the Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance to drive the Autocracy of Jotunheim from the system. The Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance has also issued a call to independent combat pilots for support, promising to reward those who lend their aid. The Autocracy of Jotunheim has issued a similar plea.

Meanwhile, peace activist Jasmina Halsey has surprised commentators by placing an open order for performance enhancers, armour and military grade fabrics, which she has pledged to donate to the Revolutionary Jotunheim Resistance in support of its operation. The Yum Kamcabi Purple Life Industry is coordinating Halsey’s appeal.

Anticipating the furore her decision would cause, Halsey released the following statement:

“I know I will be criticised for intervening in this conflict. But if those who oppose this war believe it can be stopped through peaceful protest alone, they are mistaken. If we do not help the people of Jotunheim, they will lose their homeland. We cannot stand idly by.”

All three campaigns begin on the 1st of June 3303 and will run for one week. If any of the factions involved meets its targets earlier than planned, its campaign will end immediately.
So Halsey steps up to help defend Jotunheim against the imps! I wonder why she decided to assist with this one? Usually she just provides relief to refugees from these wars, humanitarian aid missions and the like. To publicly support a faction against a superpower is a bold move, and I'm very curious why this particular battle is one she feels worth getting involved in? Wonder why the imps want Jotunheim as well for that matter.

Also worth noting is the system name Jotunheim is an obvious reference to Jötunheimr - the land of the giants in norse mythology.
