My visit to Frontier Developments and the Future of the Game

Keep in mind that Frontier have said they will only be showing some of 2.4 at E3. Other stuff will be shown at a later date.

Either way, as long as it totally blows our minds and exceeds all expatiation, I'll be fine with whatever they announce... ;)

Of all the updates scheduled for 2.X this next one, 2.4, has been the one I've most anticipated. Not knowing exactly what to expect is part of the fun.

It was a lifetime expansion pass, rather than season pass. So long as they charging for expanded content then it aught to constitute value over time. Possibly over a long period than people where thinking around Horizon's launch though.

(I had the £30 version mind, so pretty much whatever they do is good value give the hours I've put into the game)

Edit: "put into the game" is a poor term. Time I've enjoyed would be better. :)

Just to help clarify:

The Lifetime Expansion Pass that I got that was made available for purchase during the Horizons announcement in the summer of 2015 covers all future expansions/seasons content and was around 195 USD or 180 USD if you already had the base game, which was the case for me.

The Horizons Season content covers all of 2.X content (i.e., through 2.4), not future expansions/seasons content, unless it happens to be retroactively updated, like has been the case with some content being updated for people who only have the base game and not Horizons.

I don't know about exceeding all expectations! :D :p I don't know if Frontier will ever stop being "slow burn" with their announcements. :D

Whilst 2.4 looks good indeed, I'm also very interested in the fleshing out of the game - but we won't hear about that for a long while yet. As I said earlier in this thread, there are a lot of improvements I would like to see added to the base game, the fact Frontier are looking at doing that is a good sign. It's still an open question as to whether they can get past that rng hurdle they seem to have. However, I think one of the things that excited all us visitors was that Frontier are aware of those issues and trying to get them fixed.

So the season passes are done for? Do I get my money back then for it?

I am not an FD employee so feel free to ignore but I think you can take to the bank that no matter the pay method we will get all in game none cosmetic or otherwise earnable in game content. Anything else would generate uproar

Edit I am assuming you mean lifetime pass as the horizons season pass will run its course

Yes, I think many of us can agree that the base game and already existing features need a little TLC in terms of balancing, scope, and integration and maybe a bit reworking as well. I'm certainly glad Frontier will be focusing on this more later and not just the thar... :x :)

Disclaimer: I have no inside knowledge, only theories.

Woke up this morning and remembered this, put a smile on my face. Over the years I have been critical of a few developments but have always had faith in FD and their stewardship of this alternate reality that I escape to whenever I can. Lately, this faith has waned, a feeling summed up nicely by OA. This invitation to our community and their impressions has restored that faith.

Thank you FD.

Any release will almost certainly have those who are not impressed - because it is apparently impossible to please all of the people all of the time.... :)

Thanks OA and TJ and others for the posts... absolutely wonderful hearing this and looking forward to the future of Elite D !!!

Well it's nice for the few to be reassured, but I'm looking for more general reassurance. That doesn't mean other people having NDA protected glimpses and saying "it's very nice".

Anybody go along who isn't using the Windows version?

That is very clear but the forum here must be like a narcotic or something.
They claim to hate the game, have uninstalled it, yet still come here and whine all day.

What time scale are we talking about in your opinion?

C'mon. I am no M$ slappy but aren't 93% (or so I read) of the worlds PC's running Windows?
I am afraid it is time to be assimilated as resistance is obviously futile is you want to play most titles.
Especially for a company looking at resources expended vs sales for a "mainstream" game not some specialized software.

Or were you talking XBox and not Mac?

(From the 2015 Annual Report, avaialble in full here).

What this means in laymen's terms is Frontier should still have 86.7% of the money they took for Lifetime Expansions ring fenced because they haven't delivered a "first paid-for update" for [formerly season 3] yet.

If Frontier were to make such a drastic change as to offer [formerly season 3] updates completely free of charge then you should at least be entitled to a refund of the undelivered portion of that money. This scenario is highly unlikely though, Pay per major update or a single major expansion are the more likely models going forward in which case your LEP still has the value it always did.

Was all the players invited or just a select few of the more... Knightly types? It's just like ingame where some gets hand held and butlered too. You all must be pvpers? ;)

I wonder what percentage of those Windows machines are used only for work purposes? The Windows machine I use at work is completely locked down, as is the thousands of others used by the same employer. Our macOS network however ... ;)

I am sure a large part of that 93% are "at work" PC's but I still would bet that home-based PC's using Windows is still way higher then anything else. Guessing people probably stick with what they know.
