DS4 Keybindings

It is my assumtion that the thrusters move the entire craft up/down, starboard/port, opposed to the nose up/down (pitch), or left right (yaw).

That's what I'm thinking, too, since yaw is mapped to the Xbox controller via different buttons. It makes for some potentially interesting maneuvers.

While the only time I ever tried to use a controller on my pc instead of mouse&keyboard or hotas was an unmitigated disaster, I think I can say that you probably won't be using the thrusters to help fine-tune aim. I find thrusters extremely usefull during combat, but that is to help tighten turns rather than for aiming.

One csn use thrusters to rotate the ship with out any forward, backward or sidways motions. Kill all engines, use thrusters to do a 180, and you'll be fscing your interdicter face to face. Though it is harder to do well when under duress.

Sitting still and spinning on the spot is not really the best combat tactic when you've just been interdicted... ;)

I've read, that stoping, doing a 180 rotation as soon as possible then do what ever the term is (highwake or something like that) to fly right at and pass them before they can respond, supposedly catches them with their pants down.

that does work, I find pitching up/down with 'opposite' thrust (push the joystick forward pull the hat back / down or vice versa) and flight assist toggled off the quickest way turn . . . no need to stop, just hit boost once you face the right way

Ahh, finally, an explanation of how to do this 180 rotation. It all makes sense now.

Thrusters also are handy while outmanouvring asteriods in an asteroidbelt. One can dive underneath them without changing the general direction.

Starboard or Port rudder only turns the nose, the tail simply follows. Thus a detetable turn radius. Starboard or Port thrusters rotate the entire craft. Hence no detectable turn radius. One believes there in pursuit of another's 6; When after the process, if performed soon enough, there facing ones 12.
