Not so much a sciencey question, but what were they doing 12kls out from planet 2 heading toward Asterope in the first place? Following unusual heat signatures?

And they crippled a cap ship permanently, even some conoys by the looks of things; they only temporarily disable CMDRs though?

Odd behavior.

Yes, it might be that this odd location is intended to lead us to something, since it is a strange place for the Fed ships to be; on the other hand it could be FD throwing something together quickly and using the typical generation ship location to add some storyline depth to this wreck site.

and yes, it is strange IF these are Thargoids going around destroying Fed ships and people in experimental fsd drive ships (separate thread https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/264118-23810-Prototype-wrecks-WIP) while leaving us alone. So this is another piece of evidence to suggest that flowerships are Oresrian while the attacks are from the Thargoids who are still flying octagonal ships (as seen briefly in the E3 trailer). Ed never actually said specifically the flowerships are Thargs, it was left to our interpretation. I suspect we are being manipulated into shooting at the wrong aliens.

As you say, the flowerships have shown only peaceful intent so far, so it is still possible that.....

Nobody has seen them act aggressively yet. Hundreds of encounters and zero aggression.

But you have to wonder what happened last night, either :

1) The Flowerships attacked
2) The military have some way to counter the Flowership EMP(?) and were able to fire, triggering a response

Are there any signs the Fed ships fired? Deployed hardpoints and such, or are they all stowed?

We know that the flower ships can be destroyed because we have found several of them crashed on planets. We also know that we have nothing available to us that could do this.

So.... what can?

I was out last night and have not watched either livestream yet. A few questions:

I did watch the two short videos, including the one with DB. There are a number of interruptions, have these been checked for hidden messages?

Whilst I will watch the streams, it will likely not be till tomorrow. Can someone bullet point the events that led to the probe and the ships?

Thanks in advance.

One of the alien crash sites has human ships there, T9s and such, which does suggest taking them down is possible. Although I spose the T9s may have been looting UAs without taking precautions.

Well it was all about Ed Lewis, really, he played the role of a CMDR given a tip off. Folks watching the stream followed along in game.

Stream 1
- Ed gets a tip off
- Ed goes to a beacon in a system
- Beacon instructs Ed to go to Orcus Crag out near the Pleiades (can't remember the system name)
- At Orcus Crag a CG mission on the board, Palin thinks he's onto something, wants Unknown ship scan data and wake data
- CG is 24 hours, reaches tier 8 and finishes

Stream 2
- Ed gets a tip off Feds have intercepted Palin's data, but there's been some issue, a distress signal, Ed is to investigate
- Essentially, from 2nd planet in HIP 17044 head to Asterope for 11KLY edit: 11Kls not ly!!
- Find encounter
- "Thargoid Return"

We don't know that they are crashed recently. They could be old Mycoid damaged ships.

Or they are just shedding their shell, once in a while. :D

Question: Is the Flower ship a Thargoid ship?

Or just a human controlled Thargoid-built ship?

Plus: Theoretically, the wreckage could still be all staged by the Feds, which would explain why the Flower Ships are peaceful towards us up to now. /tinfoil

Another thought though.
We have the Guardians, discovered recently, well ahead of the assumed Thargoid ships. What is their role in this? From a Storyteller's perspective, their culture should add something positive or negative to the main Thargoid threat storyline (note that this does not mean that the Thargoids are actually enemies).
But what? Right now, they seem to be completely separate. All we got is that they were internet-crazy hunter-class folks.
Could their initial bonds to nature help counter a threat by the insectoid Thargoids?

Where are the links?

Oh and BTW many of you should have received the "adhortatory letter" by the Feds. I think that is a really brilliant move. Love it.

<Tinfoilery ahead>

The Thargoids have been receiving medicine from the Alliance for their genetic problems due to the mycoid thing.

Feds found out and said "not so fast Joe", probably Empire too, and put a stop to the supply.

Alliance scientists started seeding planets with barnacles which produce the medicine in order to at least give the 'goids a fighting chance.

Tharg's now have to come out into the open to get well...and we shoot at them.

Something like that. Thargoids finally got well again. Either on their own or with the help of the Alliance.

Now they only want to peacefully eliminate the Fed and Imp navies. :D

It could get even better. Could turn out that in exchange for the meds/health those Pesky Tharg's have been containing/holding off an even bigger enemy, and we just opened the gates...

Something else is coming as well. If we destroy the balance of terror by an all out victory over the Thargids, it will bite us in the rear. :p

My Pet Theory

The "Flower ships" arent the actual thargoid ships, no one has seen them open fire, we have seen them hyperdict players, we have seen them at wreckage sites again no combat, maybe whatever they are is some kind of scoutship for something else and we have yet to see the actual thargoids and their ships themselves? Maybe all the wrecked unknown ships are the remains of some other life form attacked by the thargoids. All we know is that the thargoids have returned, not if we have actually seen them yet.

Take your Gnosis out for a spin? :p
Pretty sure a bunch of apolitical scientists could do a forensic analysis...

Anyway unless it's more of an aesthetic design, most of the damage seems to be away from hard points, utility mounts or any real vulnerable location. In fact it looks like the 2 Farraguts were contemptuously beaten into submission through the thickest parts of their armour. Since there aren't any trace of enemy ships it further supports either a very one-sided battle or that a cover-up doesn't have the resources to frame the enemy ships to a fine enough detail to fool people.

FYI ;)

As explained, the main interaction with the Thargoids will begin with 2.4 The Return. There are things to be seen in 2.3 still though... :D

And, did you see the triangles all around, didn't you?
