Lol!
I was using the royal we. I'm with you, I only scanned our new overlords.

Look suspiciously like pork pies... I think their +50 on the meat scale beats our biscuits' +35 on butter and sugar.
We're gonna need a bigger snack.
Hmmm, this Thargoid ship appears to be armed with some kind of mine/bomb, whatever...
That's not necessarily random chance. The double ship instance from that video a couple of days ago suggests an instance that spawned twice within a few seconds of eachother.
Now I'd assume (always a dangerous thing to do) that this event won't spawn if no-one is around. Therefore the most likely circumstance is a random roll occurring to decide whether you get the event, which could well be tied to launching your SRV.
Obsidian Ant encountered his after 20 minutes. There could be a random time component after the initial roll to decide whether you get the encounter, and if so, it's unlikely to be more than 30 minutes.
You saw it 5 times in 3 days, so you have the most data. Were you in open with other commanders? If not, your data will be that much better because it's not spoiled by other people rolling for the encounter.
I'd appreciate it if you could put down as much info as possible on your encountersThe sheet of encounters on the front page shows the time the encounter happened but not how long the person having the encounter had been there.
Did they have these during barnacle scans? Did anybody get any screenshots of their undersides beforehand? Could be some sort of thrust nozzle, since they are biological.
Or an awful lot of Branston's Pickle (chunky variety)Look suspiciously like pork pies... I think their +50 on the meat scale beats our biscuits' +35 on butter and sugar.

Yes, they are the vertical thrusters that can be seen to light up when the flower lifts off again from the barnacle, leaving the orange contrails.
Sorry for the delay, this might be a bit redundant now after the CG and whatever's happened tonight...
I've now had 10 visits as of last night and have submitted them all to the spreadsheet. I wanted to review the recordings & commander logs first to check for anything significant prior to the arrivals, as well as count up the number of commanders as accurately as I could.
All of the visits happened in Mobius private group, and all were with at least 2 other commanders present in the instance.
Here's a summary of the events immediately leading up to the visits I've seen, as the spreadsheet doesn't capture this:
If there is a common factor then it seems to be a commander or their ship entering or leaving the instance, and the event happens soon afterwards (3-6 minutes). It doesn't matter if a site is intact or not.All visits in Pleiades Sector OI-T C3-7, Planet A 6, Co-ords -42.77, -21.71
Where I mention driving up the canyon, it's on roughly heading 210 from the barnies, right to the cliff at the end where the ground lightens - jumping over the gully that precedes the cliff - and then back down again.

I was AFK and heard them stow - making me return just in time to watch.
SRV was away from ship and none close by, not noticed this happen before.

I'll try to edit down my shadowplay videos sometime soon, but may not be for a couple of weeks as a holiday approaches.
A "Leaving" trigger might be a commander logging to a new mode, flying out or ship destruction. An "Arrival" trigger may be a commander flying in or recalling a ship after it's departed to orbit.
If there are triggers then it's only creating a chance - e.g. 2 or 3 attempts at driving away to get the ship depart and then recalling it appeared to have an effect - but there were also attempts by myself or other commanders that did not trigger anything. Similarly it seems that someone has just left before a few visits, but as I've left some sessions running for extended periods, perhaps this is simply coincidence and is to be expected in a busy private group...
Gut feeling ... a population change in the instance creates a chance of a visit ...
Not so much a sciencey question, but what were they doing 12kls out from planet 2 heading toward Asterope in the first place? Following unusual heat signatures?
They were probably trying to jump to Asterope from near the 2nd planet and were hyperdicted.
From the location it looks like they were caught on the way from Palin back to the bubble.
Hip 17044 is roughly between PRE Logistics Support Zeta and Epsilon.
Leaves the question, can capital ships with their different hyperjump mechanic be hyperdicted?
<Tinfoil required beyond this point>
It's all too suspicious - too convenient...
How do we know the Feds didn't stage the scene? The flower ships have been peaceful in their interactions so far, why would they attack now? Are we being manipulated into a war by the powers that be?
And what happened to Palin's data, what would he have learned from it? We may never know!
What if our thargoid friends are being framed by the Feds?
Hmm, they look suspiciously like Oreos.
Maybe it's a cosmic plot to devastate the glorious diversity of British biscuitude.
