Elite will get 4K patch on Xbox One X

I just read the news on Eurogamer. Here goes:

Space-faring game Elite Dangerous will get a 4K patch for the Xbox One X's launch on 7th November.

The game is being shown here in Los Angeles at E3, where Xbox One X was debuted just two days ago.

"We will of course be embracing it at Frontier," Elite Dangerous director David Braben said in a statement to Eurogamer. "Elite Dangerous runs very well on the Xbox One X, in 1080p and in 4K, at launch."

What do you think. Also, Gary if you read this, can you comment anything on this? Higher graphics settings, better framerate, anything? :)

I have read this on Eurogamer, but can't comment on anything further.

You're going to get an infinitely bigger jump in picture quality upgrading from an old hdtv to a new 4k hdr tv with the same xbox, than upgrading to the xbox 1x but still playing through your old tv. Unless your old tv was INSANELY high-end.

I've gamed at 4K at my mate's house. On Elite no less.

I don't see the big deal of 4K. Monitors cost too much for me.

Eh', all I want from Scorpio is better load times & higher fps at 1080p. Basically, I want it to deliver what my PC already does.

My monitor, BTW, is top of the line 1080p stuff. I don't use a television for my Xbox, I use a PC monitor. Because they're better.

The point is that the picture quality of today's 4k uhd tv's are VASTLY superior to your average hdtv of yesteryear - even when running standard 1080p content through them.

Whereas comparing xbox1 and xbox1x through the same old tv, it's doubtful you're going to see any significant difference whatsoever (bar possible framerate improvement).

So if you can only afford / justify upgrading ONE component, or are planning to stagger them - opt for the tv upgrade first*.

*Unless bad framerates are your biggest bugbear, then maybe get the xbox1x, but your picture is barely going to look any better in other respects.

Yes, it's the fps I want improved. Trust me, I'm very happy with my monitor, and its still image fidelity.

However the fps is what I want to see improved. Elite isn't even my biggest motivation for Scorpio. That game is ESO. I'll wait for live reports, but I hope Scorpio drastically improves performance in Cyrodiil. (PvP zone)

A 4K telly' isn't going to improve performance there.

I'm more puzzled as to why a traditional mouse-clicky mmo game would struggle with framerate on xb1 in the first place, other than sloppy conversion reasons.. but ok :)

Fair enough.
Requesting a 1080p or 1440p mod with ultra sliders cause the game has a PvP element so typically your FPS would remain the same.
That should allow much higher settings

on 4k....whatever the devs go with, I get it but for me I'd prefer flash over resolution once you hit 1080p. If you can do it all at 4k. (Heck yeah let's do it) cause again it's prob best to keep the same FPS unless it's solo play

I just love a new console so will get it regardless, got to have a hobby right?
If it makes games better then that's a bonus, just give me new tech to play with.

Also, ESO is much more detailed visually than games like WoW.

I can't settle on just one, Gary. So here, please have ALL the headdesk gifs: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=headdesk+gif&FORM=HDRSC2

People should read Gary's quote and apply it to how much we actually know about the supposed XB1 HOTAS.

This is the same pony show where devs tell you stuff you want to hear and then it never happens.

See Phil Spencer's Keyboard and Mouse announcements the last 4years...

Why not Gary? I'm pretty sure I heard and saw Ed announce this on the stream last night.

There can be a countless reasons..

But indeed, Ed confirmed it as well.. Details will come in time.

Indeed, the main reason is that we have Community and Marketing Teams and I can't go around stealing thunder from their announcements. Imagine a conversation between David B and myself if I went around posting information that he was planning to announce.........

That's different than saying "yes, that magazine reported it"

How about "I can confirm it's being worked on" You haven't stolen anything then, you've literally just repeated what was already said instead of creating this ambiguity about where Frontier stands on this.

I was responding to the post by the OP, dreampage :-

and was saying that I couldn't comment anything more than was reported in the article.

Sorry for any ambiguity my reply might have caused, that wasn't my intention.

Based on this response I can see it is now actually confirmed that my train to work tomorrow will be ahead of schedule for 3 minutes. Also, that I will buy 2 baguettes. But wait, let´s call the Cannon guys. We need to find out more.

Thanks Gary!
