Here's the current official statement from FDev, via BrettC:

"The reported Engineers issue was fixed. As to what will happen to said commanders who took advantage of said issue, that is up to said users to disclose."

In short; FDev will not publish any actions (or in-actions) against the relevant players.

Thanks, that's helpful but it is not an official statement from the Developers or Frontier Support, so far as I can see. It's an announcement of a forum policy.

If its anything like the time a guy was caught using a virtual machine to exploit trading, 1 month temp ban and no removal of gains.

The cheat is ongoing if they don't remove the modules even now pvp discord channels and cmdr youtube channels are still using god rolled ships requesting evals and parade their skills

makes you wonder why some cmdrs want to bury it ???????

So they aren't going to remove them.. well that's just swell, another weak and toothless response by FD. Shadowbanning them is POINTLESS unless you remove their ill gotten gains!

I just don't get it.

If that's the official word, that is it? The bug has been removed. But we're going to have to guess or try and play detective around Reddit and YT to try and find out if the modules have been removed and if the players suffered any reversal?

Are we going to get any idea of how etensively it was used? Can we get some kind of dry stats? Just so we can gauge how much of the past year of lore to take seriously?

I'm pretty much done with FD. I've gone from wildly enthusiastic, and optimistically looking forward, to now pessimistically looking forward. ED is the only game I really play, and I'll carry on playing as long as it's physically possible but I cannot fathom their management of the game at all. Maybe it's me, maybe I'm missing something.

Wow.

Ugh.

If it's been fixed why no announcement letting people know?? Just some post replying directly to ONE USER with a subsequent lock it so it sinks??

They have no clue do they, it's like they have no grasp of how this exploit fundamentally undermines any historic PvP interaction and any interaction going forward.

No comment on what is happening with exploited modules in the game.

No comment about how they let such an exploit be reported, be ignored and go on to be abused for 4+ months.

No comment on how they plan to address whatever internal failure resulted in this being missed.

We don't need names or details of punishments; but we do need a single line telling us that the modules are no longer in game otherwise suspicion of cheats can never be overcome.

Frontier need to announce that either:

1. They guarantee that every single exploited module has been permanently removed from the game.

Or

2. Because they cannot guarantee that every single exploited module has been permanently removed from the game, all RNGineer blueprints are henceforth reduced to requiring any single g1 material to roll.

Anything else - included the current eloquent silence - will speak volumes.

At first glance, this looks pretty lame from FD. Do we know if any of the "said users" have disclosed what has happened to them yet?

For #2 I would say remove the RNG instead and make all mods a set amount incrementally growing from g1 to g5 including all existing modifications.

Any missed exploiters will have the same g5 as the non exploiters.
Lots easier to balance in the future too.

Yes, the lack of any clarity is very disappointing, frustrating and shows lack of respect and understanding to any player who has concerns about the engineering exploit and the game in general.

They've basically said: if you want to know if the exploit is fixed and what has happened to the cheat modules (i.e are they still in the game), then ask the cheaters!!

No i didnt say that.... I said knowing the existence of cheaters in a game makes me question the integrity of the game, and spoils anything competitive. It does not mean i am saying everyone is a cheater unless proven otherwise.

Are you suggesting the doping scandals in olympics / other sporting events has not made you question the integrity of the sports? if not, well i believe you are in a minority... And i will tell you 1 thing for 100% certain. EVERY single honest sports person who does not cheat would 100% enjoy their profession more if they knew there were no cheaters in their sport.....

How do you think a weight lifter would feel if they were going into the finals of a competition and their opponent had posted a video the night before detailing how they could get massive muscle mass in super fast time by taking these steroids, and then proceeded to take steroids..... but was then still allowed to enter the final?. (and their argument was, well its not cheating because I *could* have worked my off grinding out these muscles but that is boring........ why do that when i have me some Anabolic steroids).

You think that is fine i imagine. I do not.

In an "innocent until proven guilty" what you said is what happens, you suspect of people not declare them. When watching the olympics you suspect of people, that's fine, that's what makes law move. If you couldn't suspect of anybody then you would never be able to begin a trial and see if he is truly guilty. In a "guilty until proven otherwise" you are guilty by default and you will need no evidence whatsoever to confirm that somebody is a cheater and the only way to stop being guilty is to show a proof that shows you are clean. You can feel as unconfortable as that weight lifter but if they posted a video about it on the last night then that is proof he was cheating, not a clue.

I hope they come up with an in-game solution at least.

I don't like the "You have been a bad person for repeatedly clicking these buttons in a game. You shall be banned".

I much prefer "You have been a bad Commander for swindling engineers out of thousands of G5 materials. Each engineer will disable their modified modules and deny you service until you have re-payed your debt".

Fist one is meh, last one is fun.

I love an in-game solution too, just suspect FDev don't have any mechanism to tell who really cheated or not. If FDev did, they probably would have been more forthcoming in telling the world that they had properly acknowledged the problem and were really fixing it.

Yes, or remove all crap RNG idea to slider idea.

In fact, i truly agree with You.

At now FDEV blocked GodRolls for everyone except people who got them already.

I think RNG is most hated cancer in that game, even more than open/priv/solo modes.

I disagree with the slider idea as I think it will make it even easier for guys exploiting the game to craft top-tier ships. Just look at the crack train exploit if you need an example - a near-unlimited supply of mats easily gained. And that's just one we know about. There could be many, many more that people have found but have thus far remained off YouTube and outside our collective knowledge. Take the RNG out of the equation and suddenly those mats can be directly applied to high-level upgrades instead of burnt through by being forced to make multiple rolls.
