Good job frontier! Engineer exploit fixed in 24 hours!

Completely agree. The listed cap should be the cap for everyone and with sliders people could decide on the stats they wanted (with proportional drawbacks).

I also completely agree but I'm sure that Frontier can't/won't impose such a cap retrospectively.

If some guy has harmed nobody and is out exploring using his legit-ground god-rolled FSD 1/1000 chance, I can see how he would have real grounds for complaint if his jump range suddenly takes a hit because of this episode.

Although you and I would have implemented 2.1 differently, the fact is that it was sold and bought and people have played it for a year, 'as is'.

Maybe the modules shouldn't be rebalanced until you dock?

I'm out exploring right now and wouldn't even be able to boost without my over max engine focused distributor. It's a fair point to make. Regardless of the cheat, the combat oriented mods needed a serious tweak. I don't know what the right answer is but I'm positive that just going on like there is no problem and the exploiting that capitalized on that problem never happened, well that's a horrible idea!

That's a good attitude in a legal system or a social setting, but it's not the best idea in a combat situasjon.

Don't worry, your brain will automatically run the 'possible cheat scenario' when faced with a combat situation. It will be in the back of your mind, when you chose to engage or leave. ;)

Ok, if you insist then label me as a cheater and I will label you as a cheater. Cheers.

I say we remove the cheaters access to all engineers, but wait not the way you are thinking! Let's make Palin unlocking level standard for ALL engineers.

seriously, I really hope FD bans those players found... but at this time, I am afraid that given the priorities shifted some time ago at FD, and their lack of attention to players, this won't seriously happen.

Best course of action at this point would be the suggestion make alien tech e-grade 50% better than the best un-modded modules. After all when you play an MMO (which ED pretends to be) the gear for your toon is the carrot in the stick...

I think they're a bit tied up with E3 right now (and rightly so), but I agree they need to be clear about what's happened to modules obtained using the cheat.

"David, the whole community is awaiting our Action in the engineers exploit file. We must throw in something"
"Organise a live stream and an unrelated community Goal. Try to look as busy as possible. Eventually, they'll Forget about all this."

To be fair - I am not sure I can fault that tactic. It'll probably work... People will be moaning about something else very shortly and forget quickly.

Especially when there is a high possibility that there is no easy fix that doesn't penalise the innocent...

Guilty until proven otherwise is a terrible idea and that's why most countries use the contrary, clean until proven otherwise.

he is right tho imo.... even the chance of cheaters in a MP competitive game makes me question every time i get bested.

and here is the thing. i am rubbish at most games (there has only ever been 1 game in existence i have felt god enough to never ever expect to lose a game in, and feel confident in every tournament i entered - kick off 2 on the amiga - .

all the rest of them, at best i look to 50/50 win loss ratio.

but still so long as you know there are cheaters in a game, that game is ruined for me. this includes COD / BF games etc.

and in the case of BF... sure these jokers often get kicked by punkbuster or what ever, but by that time the game is often already irretrievably lost. it is the reason why, for all their graphical and frame rate issues, MP gaming on console is arguably often superior over PC imo.

Wild surmise is wild. And surmise.

However, after E3 is done and done then they need to address this.

Ok, now that you like the guilty until proven otherwise attituted then you have just shooted yourself in the foot and have become a cheater and so has all the forum participants in the thread.

They're both right though. If the community of a multiplayer game loses confidence in the developer's will and ability to control cheating, guilty until proven innocent becomes the order of the day. Until the cheat ships are removed or rendered irrelevant, all the participants in this thread are indeed potential cheaters as far as anybody we meet ingame is concerned.

My prediction as to ... 'the response':

September 2017, Offices of Frontier Support:

Guy A: "Wow, bit of a flame mail here about something to with Engineers and what we're going to announce."

Guy B: "Lol wut? Old content??"

Guy A: "He's totally losing it about no announcement about something to do with interrupting the client/server transaction on a roll..."

Guy B: "Oh that. Yeah, tell him that was patched out in early June."

Guy A: "Oh, you mean the g1 thing? Yeah, I'll tell him"

Dear Cmdr,

Fortunately the unintended mechanic you refer to was fixed in early June 2017. But thank you for bringing it to our attention!

Fly safe!

So have the cheaters been punished?

Fdev really wanna comment on this and prove that something was done. and by something... i mean something.

Because its basically a greenlight for game breaking cheats to be exploited and a possible mark against the integrity of this game and the time people invest in it.

By definition, "guilty until proven otherwise" will make us all cheaters, not potential cheaters. Suspect of anybody if you like but if you truly like the mentioned rule then that'll make them cheaters by default no matter how much you trust them.

I have contacted FD via Facebook requesting that they at least announce that they will remove exploited upgrades but twice they replied and said they would not discuss action taken but assured me they do not tolerate cheating.
