Frustration Diagnosis

FD really doesn't show off unfinished stuff...

That runs completely contrary to the rest of the gaming industry. ED releases in less than two weeks. Most of the games that I've seen trailers for at E3 are releasing this Fall at the earliest. Surely you are not implying that ED is less finished than these other games.

They have been burnt too many times.
What do you think is happening now in this forum? Burn.... And the fire is not from a "certain group of gamers online who attack FD very angrily," it's from people like me who have created a keyboard macro for "I love you FDev!!!"

Also consider this - the only thing Frontier has promoting ED on PS4 is a cinematic trailer. You want to talk about getting burned, wait until PS4 players buy ED thinking that gameplay will equal what's seen in that trailer. It will be NMS all over again.

ps - my writing style is somewhat harsh (I write in Vulcan), so please don't mistake strong arguments for hostility. That goes for FDev crew as well.

pps - I like you glasgow-space-cadet, you remind me of myself just a week ago :D

ppps - I've got to get some actual work done today, Oi!

pppps - My theme today is "let it go", and FDev has responded, so I'm letting it go now :)

Gary has kindly informed me that a Marathon is akin to a Snickers. In which, i have indeed eaten said candy.

I'm on to you lot now! :D

Now I know that I'm not well known on the forums, because I've just been kicking back and observing. But after all of this venting and voicing of your (and a lot of others) frustrations, it's pretty demotivating that the only response from the community manager is about candy. I've been looking forward to this game for quite some time and would like a lot of the same information that I've seen requested as well. So I have to agree with Old Duck on this. It's passion that has turned into frustration. And a major lack of marketing to what can potentially be a very large community for this game.

Just my two cents :) Hope everyone is having a great day!

LOL cheers DUCK!!!. I think the wait has been to long. but honestly, I couldn't care less if they promote it or not, I would quite happily play the game with every single one of our forum peeps. all I have seen on here since I joined a few weeks ago is like minded people, who are eager to play the game, talk about the game and offer everyone else support and co-op play to those who want it.

We all want a HUGE PS4 base, that will come as word of mouth, if its deserved, will take over -AKA Rocket league. But really for me, this forum is enough to know we will have an awesome time in 2 weeks and forget about this mental torture!!

I'd like to know if they plan to support 4K for PS4 Pro, given that have announced 4K for the Xbox One X.

In their FAQ they stated they will support PS4 Pro, but its the 4k that i'd like some clarification on

I'd like to know if the PS4 Slim version will support HDR. That's more important IMO than 4K

I get the feeling this isnt gonna happen a week on Tuesday. FDev gave the latest possible release date within their Q2 window and have followed it up will no marketing at all. For me , I can only conclude that this isn't happening in the prescribed timescales. Or, it runs crap and they are embarrassed about it. I guess in theory that the physical discs ought to be manufactured by now and out at distribution....

Time will tell

I can only speak for myself. I want Frontier to promote their game. Parents who are proud of their children brag on their children (often to annoying excess). When parents keep their children locked away in their rooms, it's worrisome. E3 is a nice example of how gaming companies promote their games. I saw lots of in game footage for games releasing in 2018. The trailer doesn't count - that's not gameplay, that cinema. The YouTube videos don't count, because that's not gameplay on the Playstation consoles.

I want this, not because I'm impatient to play (though I really do want to play), but because something is "off" in how Frontier is handling the PS4 release. Again, watch how other companies, including some small indie companies, are showing off their games at E3. I want Frontier to show some pride in their work on the PS4. If Frontier is not proud of their game (and I'm talking PS4), how can they expect me to be proud of it? That's what's got me frustrated.

ps - I'm not one to give in to conspiracy theories, but it almost feels like Microsoft is paying them to be quiet regarding the PS4. You do realize that's how Microsoft got the exclusive in the first place - a payout. After the big shoutout the new XBox got on the E3 livestream (contrasted to the dead silence re: PS4 Pro), people start wondering...

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of that. What are the chances of that being true though?

Perhaps there is a failure in managing expectations/information? Regardless of how they go about promotion/information distribution is not an issue for me. I'm in-game on the 27th. I haven't played since the '85ish and this is new to me. If it bombs, so be it, but hope not. If it is a roaring success, that would be awesome.

FDev is in a catch-22 as evident of the past few days, however, I empathize with the players as well.

It's not just 'akin to' a Snickers, it's what the exact same bar was called in the UK until July 1990 - at which point they ran an ad campaign to be sure we'd all know that if we loved Marathons we should be looking for Snickers after the change. What I most remember about those ads were the terrible jokes, like a faux Frenchman being asked if he "had the Snickers", and replying "no, it's just the way I walk"....

Unfortunately I'm thinking along the same lines :( I was hoping ed on ps4 would have a slight performance improvement over the xbox version but now I'm more concerned if its going to match it!

I didn't know that was an option. Did you already pay for the preorder? Is there a simple "cancel order" button, or do you have to contact Sony?
Sony Digital sales are non refundable! if you pre-ordered on PSN good luck in trying to get a refund from Sony.

I'm a bit different because I want FDev to succeed, especially on the PS4. I want a galaxy full of CMDRs (not just NPCs). I want FDev to be financially successful so they can continue building on this foundation for years to come. And finally, I want a complex game like ED to be successful on our console because I want to see other companies bring complex games like Silent Hunter or even a proper flight simulator to the console.

And I want Ed Lewis to be able to afford that sailboat he's always wanted ;)

I would venture to say, the folks here are the same page as you, else the postings would probably go silent.

I am amazed at the reaction over the past few days.

I would agree, you're "a bit different", but not in this case :)

@ Duck - dude really - another rant thread? We get it - we know you're impatient and a bit peed off - your comments are noted in multiple threads and there are some who agree but...please... stop....feeding...the WILDLIFE!!

I'd recommend clicking the "Ignore Thread" button, but it doesn't seem to actually do anything. You can ignore me (please do), but I think you'll still see the thread. So I guess you'll have to go and start your own "Happy Diagnosis" thread.

They just don't seem to care.

A cautionary tale comes to mind. I've mentioned this in another forum, but, prior to what happened to Hello Games, I likely would have agreed with everything you've said. Now, however, I've come to understand that the world we game in is different now. I mention this not only because Hello Games also produced a space game directly inspired by Elite, but because Hello Games really, really, truly cared about the communication layer between their fans and themselves during the game's development. And the result was, ultimately, death threats, and the rise of a legion of trolls who still, to this day, won't let it go. Even in "benign" peace-centric places like the No Man's High reddit which I was a founding member of, you still see periodic invasions by trolls, who savagely attack everyone, hurling insults at anyone who enjoys the game.

Now I truly love and adore No Man's Sky, and I've pretty much played it every day since it came out. But the Hello Games nightmare that unfolded after the game's release meant Hello Games "went dark." And can you blame them? Total silence. Their policy prior to release was open communication, and if you read and listened to everything they said (as true fans did) during the game's development, you knew what No Man's Sky was going to be. To the people who weren't paying attention, or whose information sources had a reputation for rampant speculation or cherry-picking details from Hello Games' communications, No Man's Sky was nothing like what they expected.

Think about it a bit. Logically, and with a bit of critical thought. Put yourself in the developer's place. So here you have FDEV, working on a title which very much appeals to the same kinds of players that were attracted to No Man's Sky. And having witnessed what their peers at Hello Games have gone through, in today's modern click-bait era of commoditized gaming speculation videos/articles, what is FDEV's motivation to keep a constant stream of information flowing? That stream will invariably be polluted, distorted, and hurled back at FDEV with each release, as they are branded liars and charlatans by the hideous new legion of gamer idiots that seems to rule today's gaming web.

And if all you're really looking for is FDEV saying "Hey, yeah, we're still working on it" then, well, I'd argue they have been doing that. If you want more details, and concrete information, you have to ask yourself: why do you want that? If FDEV are keeping the details to themselves, I applaud them. I would never want another developer to experience what Hello Games experienced. So for me, personally, I don't care. I love Hello Games' new approach: their only form of communication is the new content patches they release for No Man's Sky. Otherwise, it's silence. And to be honest, I love that. It's always an amazing surprise to power up the PS4 and get a notification that a new content patch has downloaded for No Man's Sky. Total "Christmas morning" kind of feel. And I love that. I love it because I trust Hello Games, and they've got an amazing universe they're building. I see the same thing going on with FDEV, and I'm loving the silence. To me, that equates to dedication to the game. While it would be neat to know the specs for the PS4 Pro version of ED, I can wait. It's not a big deal to me. It's going to look spectacular, regardless.

If your argument here is mostly one based in emotion (words like "passionate" "soulless" "doubts" "frustration"), I'd say you need to check your head and look at what's really going on in the gaming sphere. It's really a bad place right now. It's especially bad for women and members of the LGBTQ community (both developers and players). I say take your emotions out of this, and look at it for what it is. I see in FDEV a cautious developer with a great game. Nothing more. In my view, we should all be grateful we have FDEV at all, regardless of their style or communication schedule.
