Lifetime pass payback time

As an owner of a LEP i can just say, i have had plenty of fun in the game already and it delivered more than enough for the money spent. I am really looking forward to the overhaul and fleshing out of already existing features and i will certainly continue to play and take everything this great game will offer as it develops further.
Holding back on atmospheric landings (as we know so far) was also a smart move. Besides that all of us want ALs so bad, no one of us want a repeated NMS dilemma. I bet Frontier puts lots of consideration and effort into upcoming features and the coming 3.x Overhaul season ;) will give the asset creation teams a lot of time to build incredible things for 4.x and beyond.
Elite is a great game with even greater potential and i am here to stay. LEP money well spent.

do any of you other paid lifetime pass holders think that you'll get your monies worth from it in the end

Umm.. its not the end. Where did you get that idea from?

Ask the question again when FD stop developing the game. Only then can we truly answer the question.

Oh I don't know, Bohemia seem to always knock 20% off their Arma 3 dlc pre-orders for a limited time and run a permanent dev branch aka beta for testing what's to come. Seeing as their big dlc packs are only £25 if you don't jump in early, with 20% off and a lot of content over the coming months (latest one comes in segments so jets, tanks, a new map and a couple of other things) pre-ordering makes quite a bit of sense. The pre-order to jump in at alpha on the full game was only £20 at the time.

It's everybody's (including mine) own fault for handing out money on vague promises. The truly wise don't pre-order.

The amount of money I've spent on Elite utterly dwarfs the amount of money I've sent to FDev (I have a sweet sweet HOTAS setup etc. I'm saving to get VR for it too...) so I have no regrets on that drop-in-the-bucket cost of the lifetime pass. The real value of the lifetime pass for me has been that I can safely take breaks from the game for months at a time and not miss out on things. Eg I log in for the first time in a few months and find out that months ago there was some limited opportunity that I didn't know about before the deadline expired, to get sweet midnight black ship paints via a pre-order, and that window long ago closed. BUT... No problem! All that cool stuff has been automagically added to my account, just sitting there waiting for me to discover it!

In fact I wish there were more cool things that offered this sort of lifetime pass. It's almost like some kind of lifestyle insurance - if I lose my job and have to abruptly adapt to living very frugally, it's really nice to have some Nice Things that just keep on giving without requiring any further spending :D

Did you get the Metallic Eagle? I was miffed to have missed out on that and I'm a LTEP owner...

When they gave us the LTP I was certain they said we'd get all the in game digital content... But somewhere along the line that appears to have changed.

There will always be exceptions to the rule, that doesn't make the rule wrong though.
Yes, Bohemia might well be one of those exceptions.
And even then, the patient ones will get better deals....for example, Arma 3 DLC currently available at a 66% discount, putting the complete Arma III DLC bundle at just over 25€.
There will always be a segment of customers who "want it here and now", they'll preorder or do day1 purchases.
Every publisher knows that of course and they will cash in on it, and who could blame them ?
But, from a players point of view, patience is always the safer and cheaper bet.

Assuming there are any future updates, this isn't the problem. I (we) want to be assured that our purchase was indeed a wise one. As a few have mentioned, CIG are communicating a great deal in an apparently successful attempt to pacify those that are getting worried about how their game is progressing.

You have been told repeatedly by the company that there will continue to be updates.

You can either trust that, or elect not to, but the question has been answered.

my thoughts on the matter are pragmatic. I shelled out for the lifetime pass as well, expecting multiple 'seasons' which I would thereby receive at no additional cost.
I was aware that there was a risk to any future development including that FD might change their sales model and it seems that there will be no other seasons as such.

I don't mind that at all as long as those that did buy a lifetime pass get something back for that. Like all downloadable content for free...

I think you are worrying over the unknown, Frontier upped the price of the LTEP for a reason imho. The key question in all this imho is... out of the active player base what % are LTEP owners...

As far as people complaining that we shouldn't have pre-ordered?

Sorry Guys if it wasn't for the people who 'Pre-ordered' via the Kickstarter, this game wouldn't be in existence.

We know (Thanks to the Eye witness reports from my Lave Radio Co-host and Obsidian Ant) that there are quite a few floors at FDevs offices working on Elite : Dangerous (what proportion of them are working on new content and the PS4 port was not made clear) but judging by the lead time, there probably working on new stuff for at least the next six months to a year after 2.4 is done and dusted. I suspect we won't get any new information about 3.0 until we're well into 2.4 (Probably at this Frontier Big Event that Zac was hinting at).

Whether you got your Lifetime content pass from the Kickstarter or the Horizon's upgrade, I would expect that no matter what model they move to in the future (Quarterly paid of DLC, Monthy Subs, or whatever they use) that you'd get evdery update for free. Probably with the exception of ship skins/kits, bobbleheads/ furry dice. etc.

I remember when Hellgate London sold life time passess. In any case its too late to think about refunds m8,the money is long gone onto planet coaster and other games.

A non greedy company with minimal morals would at least give part of the microtansaction items for free to life time backers,as compensation for not releasing enough content.Instead you will get nothing and like it.

I can't believe people still think that the LEP means you only get the expansions if they call it a season, and to call it anything else you don't get it. Notice the name LEP (Lifetime Expansion Pass). I don't see seasons mentioned. Even if it did people would understand they are talking about updating the game i.e. expanding it. Want further proof? Look at the Kickstarter and what it says at the 80 pound mark. It clearly states you get all the previous rewards stated above and:
.
Includes any future expansions
.
No mention of seasons. It is very clearly worded any future expansions. Now call it download content, (that is an expansion). Seasons of new content obviously an expansion. In fact anything they would sell would be an expansion as it changes the game play, and what does any expansion do? It changes the game play. So please why all the worrying? You get ALL FUTURE EXPANSIONS.
.
Calebe

it could be argued that future updates are DLC and thus not 'expansions'.
Not saying they will be, I'm just saying they could.

Eh? A Lifetime Pass is exactly that. Why would you expect it to include other items? If I buy a fridge, I don't expect it to come with milk and butter... I have to buy that separately. It is your expectations at fault here.

You took a risk. Sometimes risk doesn't pay off.

Life sucks don't it?

Like many here, I've got a lifetime pass. ... I was kind of hoping for something as revolutionary as horizons for S3, 4 etc, but it seems like FD are running out of steam for major gameplay changes .... I've not decided where on the side of the fence I lie at the moment....

By the time the dust settles on ED in 2025, the cash will be long gone and I won't worry about it, but I think in hindsight the cost was too high considering what they've done with it. I'm not sure if it warrants anger at them for the overprice or dismay that the cash didn't bring me more. .......

6 minutes to get off the fence. Almost the time it needed to create the second post. Mmmm, good job.

I have already got my value out of my 35£ LEP. Those who bought later, I seem to remember it was a lot more expensive, may have a different view.

However, any change to FD's charging model doesn't invalidate our LEP's*, so I'm really not sure what the worry is. We'll still get all that will ever be in ED. *They won't because off-line-gate will be but the merest splish in an ocean compared to the fallout for FD if they tried to renege on the LEP, and they aren't that naive.

I don't agree with your base assertion that "...FD are running out of steam for major gameplay changes...". No-one outside FD has any real inkling of what's coming, and to accurately second-guess your feelings in 2025 is, erm, impressive to say the least.

So overall, I play ED now and again, have already got way way way more than the expected '50 hours of play' out of it, so, if I never played it again, I would still rate it as a great experience and value for money. ymmv.
