I am a bit worried that with all the ... speculation ... on here at least 90% of CMDRs are going to be disappointed when the story evolves![]()
The old hands who've survived this long are, by now, near-impervious to such problems
Just knowing there are apparently reams and reams of world-building documents behind these things justifies all the speculation, in my book.
If logical reasoning has gone into the things we 'discover', then hopefully every detail has the potential to be a clue. And if we are, therefore, observant enough and apply equally rigorous logical reasoning, we should be able to get a handle on the nature of those discoveries.
So I would not be surprised if more than one of us over the last three years have nailed one or more currently unknown details - especially in the last couple of weeks'-worth of posts.
The fly in the ointment for us is that we can only control what we do and know. Characters like Hudson, Lavigny-Duval and Mahon are obviously outside our control, as are any other suspected human 'bad guys' who might be antagonising the Thargoids without our knowledge (e.g. potentially manufacturing UAs from Thargoid tech, or even: babies?).
Continuing that train of thought outside the fourth wall: FD obviously have story arcs they want to follow, scenarios they want to place us in, in order to provide a platform to develop the Thargoid presence. So some of that will be forced upon us, and some of it will be down to our own actions.
I also think there'll be plenty of opportunity to continue to use the collective grey matter over the next few months, even years at least - and not just because this small corner of the overall community is particularly vibrant - but because I think the way it engages with the game is exactly the kind of engagement DBOBE, MB et al themselves value very highly - hence the reason why evidently so much work has gone into what we've talking about across these 10 threads, and no doubt will continue to do so for many threads to come.
What bothers me slightly, however, is that when we (often singular commanders coming in, or returning, and sharing - adding to the whole) do figure something out, or discover something - it's easy to believe we're really smart. And while in many cases that's obviously true (me excluded!) - I have a sneaking suspicion that the aforementioned DBOBE, MB et al might just be a bit smarter! Still, that hopefully means we're going to be busy for a long time!
