Let's be honest here, simply removing the cheat rolls would be a slap on the wrist. When you steal something, giving it back is not enough; you require punishment, that usually comes in the form of fines, community service or jail time. This is what this is: punishment for cheating, negative conditioning so people will not try it next time.

Agreed. This is hilariously soft. I would consider wiping a save for restart to be fair. Harsh would be an IP ban and account deletion. People complaining that removing some modules is too harsh are being obsurd.

While that's accurate it misses out the 2+ week period where a few CMDRs on here spent their time trying to hammer the point home that this is a BIG issue in order to persuade Frontier to pull their finger out and take some action.

I am certainly glad Frontier have moved on this but it took some work to get it to happen.

Well that can't be right because the SDC chaps were going on about how they didn't use the exploit on reddit yesterday. Clearly FDev must have made some remarkable and entirely understandable error which will doubtless be rectified as soon as they stop laughing identify it.

Look at comparable stories in other games and we'd find a striking similarity.
It's always the same and oh so predictable.

From what I'm gathering so far, the manner in which you've conducted your exploit punishment have been nothing less than extremely clumsy. Instead of only removing the rolls which were exploited, you've also elected to remove anything that might have been a legitimate roll. What you're literally telling us is "We know you cheated, but since we can't tell which module you cheated to upgrade, we're taking this sledgehammer to everything we think might have been exploited." I'm seeing a lot of people having lost their legitimately upgraded modules... and some performed the exploit once out of curiosity.

You're losing players pulling this stuff, guys. It's bad enough you guys took said sledgehammer to anything that looked suspicious, but according to reddit posts some people still have their exploited modules.

I'm really glad I didn't let my curiosity get the better of me... I probably would have had my FAS wiped from existence if I had from ONE module.

[EDIT] Since some people would rather not actually read the thread and see that I attempted to clarify, I might as well add this in. I jumped the gun and posted this believing that any roll viewed as "suspect" would be targeted. I didn't spend a month dedicated to engineering my FAS in all aspects to have it dedicated over a false positive, you know. But obviously as more information has come out it seems FDev have a way of actually tracking these things, so... I tried admitting to the mistake, but nobody's actually READING the thread.

If they only Removed the Cheated Upgrades. It would not be a Punishment.
After all it would mean that you get a very Cheap Gamble with little to no Risk in which you can Win alot and lose almost nothing.

It would be an Incentive to do it. Because hey why not.
If you Succeed you got Super Modules that you might never get otherwise and which you would have Paid less Materials for than someone who worked his rear off to get them rolled.
If you Fail you just lose some Cheap Grade 1 Materials you can get in large quantities very easily without any effort.


Think about it and you.ll Notice that would not really be an good Idea.
Honestly Said. I think People who abused this Bug should be very Happy that they have not been outright Banned from the Game. And have ONLY lost Upgrades.
Its an really Mild Punishment.

In many Other Games you would have been Banned right off.

If you Try out an Aimbot "out of Curiosity" in Ranked Matches and on top Apply the Results to your Stats. You can assume that if it gets out you will be Banned and all your Rankings will be removed entirely.

Please stop trying to change open into your vision of what you want it to be. I like it the way it is. A C&P system wouldn't hurt but the majority of players in open are happy with the risk and don't care if they end up facing a rebuy screen. Very often the Punishments Dealt out to these People are by far less than what they earned by their wrongsdoings....

Its a bit of an Joke when some High Ranking Corrupt Official earns himself several Hundred Millions causing even bigger damages to the People and then only ends up being retired by force often getting an nice settling payment of another few Millions.
While the Fine he gets is often not even 10% of what he earned with his behavior....

And then People wonder why it has little deterrent effects...
