FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

It's a much FDev to blame as it is the exploiters. If you really need exploits to be competitive or grind yourself to death, then it's a result of a bad game design.

Disclaimer: I didn't exploit.

So...i've read on reddit that apparently pretty much every major PVP groups are leaving the game, due to the lack of motivation to legit reroll their ship.

Meaning that "pretty much" every major PVP groups were involved in this. Interesting.

While it may be true that you have read that on reddit... the facts may be a few disgruntled cheaters will walk away and all the better. Most of those blow-hards will crawl back and keep playing. It is likely some of them will take on an even more aggressive "anti" status and grief all the harder to exact their revenge; in an effort to soothe their minuscule manhood issues.

I would have stripped every mod from every component, period. Then reset all Engineer reputations to absolute zero. Let them start over from nothing. They got off far too easy, as has been said in the majority of the preceding 40+ pages.

Are you surprised?

It's that way in all competitive games I ever played. The big "pillars of the community" clans/guilds/player groups are those who cheat the most.

The competitive nature of those players basically forces them to cheat. To stay competitive they have to taking every possible advantage and the affirmative echo chamber does the rest.
Some - maybe many - might not even want to cheat, but peer pressure will push them over or they leave the group.

You and I both. However, I would suggest that FD gaining a reputation for being soft on cheaters is a far more direct route to killing the game than certain elements of the community complaining about grind.

Then maybe if FD actually did something about cheaters for a change peoples outlooks might be different. Many of the people angry are not ones that has been affected by the purge as they (Myself included) did not take part in using this exploit. They are angry because this is the first time in a long time that FD have actually shown some balls and done something, yet they continue to do nothing to tackle money exploits and combat loggers.

And when I say combat loggers, I mean serial combat loggers. The type of people that do it again and again and again and FD do nothing. The people that are recorded doing so and have tonnes of evidence both sent to FD and collated on reddit. The ones that not only advocate it but proudly state that they are loggers HERE ON THE MAIN FORUM RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE WATCHFUL EYE OF FD. Nothing is ever done about these issues. If FD are going to be strict on cheaters and exploiters, great. Fantastic in fact. But they need to do the same across the board.

The thing is, if they were to do that, they would probably lose about 60% of the accounts on this forum.

Well, i expected it to be widespread among them but not THAT much... However, by experience being in a competitive environment may favors advantage seeking behaviours, but not to such an extend... at least, not in games i played 10 years ago

Are you really suggesting 60% of users on this forum are 'serial combat loggers'?

Oh look...cheaters are upset. If you've actually used exploit especially on more than one occasion it is pretty fair to remove everything you've had. Actually, not enough if you ask me. No mercy for cheaters.
They are lucky they did not get a complete account ban (or at least a lifetime ban from Open), which FD would have been entitled to do under the terms of the EULA.

It's always safer to make expoiting pointless than to try to stop all loop holes.

Having module upgrading as the major time sink isn't a great design choice, in my oppinion.

It's all in the Proof !!

There is no proof of a combat log. Dodgy connection being a prime example. Video evidence is not proof, neither is 3 videos of combat logging 'proof'.. If you're going to ban players.. You need absolute proof that the player pulled the cable. So unless you have a video showing a player disconnecting his/her cable you're facing a brick wall.

If people combat log on you, then report them since it is a technical breach of the EULA... if they were combat logging because of griefing or ganking class behaviours though I would expect them to report you too.

Perhaps they disagree with your assessment in some way? I wouldn't know - I'm not a dev.

Perhaps combat logging is a different issue (hint: it is) which comes with a different set of challenges in identifying?

FD have taken action on one, very narrow, developer-confirmed exploit that has a big impact on gameplay. It's clear that working out which modules were tainted was a trivial task for them. Perhaps this is the wrong thread to be whining about other undesirable bahaviour?

Repeated clogging in combat situations will be something the Karma system tracks, If it is introduced.
