FDev, you just upset a *lot* of people.

Is it confirmed that Salome's Demise had exploited mods? Seems highly likely, of course.

I wouldn't be surprised. I reckon I heard 'Avada Kedavra' as my A-rated Conda shields and reinforced alloy hull were shredded in seconds the other day.

No idea who you're talking about, of course.

Don't worry, this will hit them in the wallets for sure. They don't do anything about combat loggers. They don't do anything about people who used cheats in open play PvP (I still see people in open I know 100% used to use shield hacks) but people use an exploit to lessen the garbage engineer grind and they finally decide this is the time to take a stand?

Just about everyone I have talked to is walking away from the game now. This will hurt everyone, including the non-PvP crowd.

Enjoy the emptiness of open play because a large portion of the players who frequent open are quitting.

You mean the guys with ships modded to the 9s with god rolls that our legitimately modded ships can't compete with won't be there anymore? O noes! Golly whatever will we do? I imagine for every one of those gone, at least ten might venture out of solo/Möbius so I'm guessing Open will be more populated, not less.

What all 500 or less of them? Who cares. Every single Griefing group on the game can quit this very moment and it will have cost FDEV nothing or consequence. In fact they may get more customers now that new players are brow beaten into quiting the game.

FDEV "O noes we may make more money because the black eye of this games community has finally been cleared up. What will we do?"

Thing is. Even if the people who were wiped do decide to come back, their reputation is shot to hell, anything they have ever said, done or will do will be discredited and forever labelled as exploiters and cheaters.

Now for some that wont matter, but they can say goodbye to magazine/website articles and media mentions from now on.

Any kill, or event they disrupt will not now be down to skill or better tactics or gitting gud. it will be attributed to them cheating, even if this exploit is closed another will be blamed for it.

Any contest, or event they took part in is now tainted, any achievements they have done nullified and I expect them to be excluded from future events also for fear of tainting them also.

Any form of credibility, notoriety or pretence of being constructive is now gone and tbh the only way left to salvage anything is just to leave quietly and find somewhere else to mine salt. Because it's now so public and so many are well known it's impossible to spin any sort of upside to being labelled an exploiter and cheater. Changing names, buying new accounts won't work. The game is too small and identities too easily uncovered for that to work

So while the modules can be recovered, the damage to their personal ego and reputations cannot esp for PvP where reputation and credibility are everything.

So while people might think the punishment is light, actually for ones reputation to be trashed irrevocably and by their own hand is actually harsher than people might think

Not to mention, half these people claiming they're quitting for good will probably continue to mooch about regardless.

The sheer audacity of the cheaters is baffling. It's one thing to (IMO rightfully) criticise the overly grindy nature of the RNGineers, but an entirely other thing to circumvent that through exploiting what was clearly a bug and keeping silent about it for over a year. Yet they dare throw a tantrum against FD. I say good riddance and am looking forward to fly in open more.

I know, it's glorious.

I'm savouring the total destruction of so many ED player's game-play careers right now.

Calls for removal of the engineers.

Understand, not really a fan of the engineers myself, but the genie is out of the bottle. However, I would like to see the "RNG" replaced with a slider that lets a player decide what engineering he or she needs. Also "standard" pre engineered modules being available in outfitting (at a price of course), then buy off the shelf OR, no I want custom please, I'll go see the engineer.

As to cheating, most everyone is cheering FD's actions. Tells me cheating is not acceptable to the player community so the more FD discourages it the better.

Cheaters should be thanking Frontier for their lenience. Many devs would have wiped saves or reached for the banhammer.

Could you imagine how much more upset all the cheaters would be if that were the case? Log in and you at LHS 3447 in a Sidewinder with no ranks, no progression towards anything, no permits, no engineers unlocked, and only have 3000 credits to your name.

Glad I didn't know about the exploit, would have been very tempting and would have cost me the like 10+ hours it took engineering my Corvette.

That would have been funnier and perhaps more appropriate, but I think FD struck a good balance on this one!
