Tempted to upgrade from PS4 to PS4 Pro?

After yesterdays PS4 pro live stream showing off the extra quality graphics settings, is anyone tempted to upgrade to a PS4 Pro?

It is also possible that the pro will get a 4k patch and PSVR support in the future.

2nd hand PS4's going for about £150, meaning that an upgrade will set you back ~£165.

Do it, I don't regret it. at 1080p its a step up for games like HZD and then with 4k and HDR its another step up again.

Plus you will have the enhanced Elite Dangerous experience. [up]

I've been tempted for a while but the whole rigmarole of transferring my games from one to the other gives me pause. I do not want to lose anything

I'm torn between the X and a Pro tbh :/ if Sony drop the price around the time the X launches (which I think is likely) then I'll grab one but if not I'll stump up the extra cash for the extra power.

The forza series of games are also a major influence ;)

You wont lose anything! If you've already got ps+ most if not all of your saves will be backed up in the cloud already and it's not hard to transfer your license over for the games.

All you'd really need to do is redownload any digital games tbh!

The PS4 Pro lets you transfer everything via LAN on initial setup, or if that doesn't work (which for me it didn't but for most its fine) you can use a USB drive to "backup" your OG fully and restore to the Pro. This is what I did, worked flawlessly, took one evening.

From what I've heard they make transferring from PS4 to the pro very easy so long as you have both connected to the same wifi network. Though it can take a couple of hours depending on how full the PS4s HD is.

I'm tempted, but it won't be till after I've bought a new tv.

If I were to buy a Pro now, it would be a waste of money, as I wouldn't be getting the most out of it.

Just anecdotally.

I upgraded PS4 to Pro for Nioh.

Very apparent difference graphically, really pleased with the "upgrade".

Though on the other hand you are looking at essentially buying a new console.

I did it when my controller went. Convinced myself, the claw back on the old PS4 plus the controller I'd have to buy, plus Horizons Zero Dawn which I could get bundled and wanted to buy anyway made it worthwhile.

I think overall my advice would be play the game first, it is possible you may hate it you know! It is somewhat niche.

I upgraded from a PS4 to Pro last month, and bought a 4k tv to go with it. Once the Pro was released I saved up a little bit month by month. Well worth every penny imo the graphical and performance difference justifies the cost for me, only if you have a 4k tv though or if you plan on buying on with the console.

Given the vast majority of PS4 titles will have full HDR/4K Pro support it made sense to upgrade, especially as when I bought my Pro my original launch PS4 was on its last legs.

The Pro has been on my shopping list pretty much since HZD came out. I've a 4k tv, so that's sorted, just need to afford the Pro now :)

Yes.

Both on same network, they detect each other and transfer data.

Takes bloody ages though but it is straightforward.

I found it easier to just upload the save data to the cloud, set up my Pro and then download the save data as and when i reinstalled a game again. Still either method is very easy.

I did mine using a LAN cable and it took about an hour

Even if you don't have a 4K tell, you'll still see an improvement to colour hues and details.

Once you have a 4K TV, its worth it. Titanfall2 looks stunning

A direct transfer gives you all your installed games too.

Depends if you want a clean slate I spose.

You need an angel on your other shoulder, I see. My advice is to wait. People in this forum spend money like children in a candy shop. Play ED on your Slim or whatever you have and see if you like it. If you can hold out until Fall, you might get a really good deal on the Pro, especially when the Xbox One X releases (you know Sony will want to undercut Microsoft's big launch). They might even release a quieter, smaller, "Slim"er Pro later this year. Or, you never know, you might want to spend that extra cash on the Xbox One X to get an even better experience, and keep your PS4 vanilla for your other games..

Good things come to those who wait :)

Screw that, buy it. don't listen to him. You only live once, if you wait for the price to drop, wait for PS5.. :D
