As long as Goon panic seems to be going strong may as well inform

One of the principal ways Goonswarm gained such large influence over EVE and even managed to break down the proverbial doors in other games is the fact that they have small group of intelligence officers who gather intel on targets, look for weaknesses and engage in subversive action when required. Speaking from EVE experience they took down Band of Brothers via the GIA ( this group, they call it in EVE The Goonfleet Intelligence Agency ) without ever firing a shot ( this is a confirmed action by both Goons, BoB and the respective turncoat https://truestories.eveonline.com/t...-his-regards-disbanding-band-of-brothers.html ), they weakened and absorbed at least one alliance via GIA black ops ( the alliance in question had serious leadership issues and was thus an easy mark and offered Goons a few extra extremely valuable moons, back then), the fall of TEST can also be partially attributed to GIA sabotage ( personal hunch: the current civil war between dreddit and fweddit is their handiwork as dissention in TEST prior to the war was almost nonexistent by all signs) and at least in Age of Wushu it was also active gathering intel on the game's weaknesses and of potential adversaries.

So keep an eye out not for people trying to change the game, goons never do that unless they are really at a disadvantage and I rather doubt FD would pop the limiter of instances so fat chance of that, but those trying to sow dissent or mistrust. Even old faces could be up to something and no this level of meta is unfortunately unavoidable since both goons and (d)reddit started practicing it, all you can do is be aware of it and not fall into the those ploys (all this thread is meant to inform as launch approaches and I have noticed oddly familiar tendencies amongst some of the rather outspoken outliers of the community).

PS: GIA lack of effectiveness is why Goons hate taking on groups with a strong collective identity such as groups with strong real world ties (friends or share cultural heritage, Goons proactively avoid areas where Romanians or Hungarians are active in EVE for example) or a long standing base in the respective game ( CVA in EVE ). So yes this is one way to beat their meta: a good list of trustworthy friends.

I think you are right about GSF's meta gaming strategy's in EVE, there are a lot of things that go on at a political level that can control the outcome when it comes to war, territory and resources.

You have to remember that GSF and the CFC are a war machine and the bottom line is that machine needs resources in order to survive and thrive. After an expansion update in June last year, there was a large shift in resources and the Fountain region (where TEST where in control of - where sat on a chunk of much needed resources). This is what that war was about.

The level of propaganda and metagaming that goes on within EVE 'game mechanics' between both sides plays can play a large part in the outcome of war.

I'm not entirely sure how this would all fit into the ED Universe since it's more about the player and not about the big corporation \ alliance warfare.

I'm sure we will see ganking happening regularly , i.e haulers getting destroyed, robbed - but that's just piracy at its core, Spies, intelligence gathering would be totally feasible.. i.e looking for the money trains and being able to organise a trap with friends on route..

If player to player contracts of sale where to be brought in to ED, I am sure would see scams going on just like in EVE.

Was part of the CFC - Cluster****Coalition and fought with some very honourable players at that. 2 sides to every story. Don't believe everything you hear on the news :)

Maybe we should have a system to turn in suspected goons so their accounts can be deleted. Perhaps replace some of the ads around stations with "Is the pilot next to you a goon?" with a handy list of goon traits to look out for.

This should help to keep the game fun.

Come on people, you do not have much to worry about.

The EVE goons have all gotten older and are vested to heavily in EVE to leave. Goons coming to E:D are a new breed of happy, peace loving npc shooting goonies that just want to make friends and fly space ships.

Why can't we just be friends? ;)

What is it we are afraid the Goons will do?

In EVE you can lose Things that have required months of work and years of training to achieve.

In Elite the most you can lose is your ship and contents. Big Fat Hairy Deal.

Why the panic? Or am I missing something?

What a really strange bunch this "goonswarm" is. I am guessing that as they get their kicks out of such activities, they were bullied at school or have otherwise unfulfilling lives.

Mankind is such a bloody strange creature.

This has got me seriously concerned now.

What if I've been infiltrated by "the goons" whilst I was asleep?

I wouldn't put that sort of thing past them from what I've heard.
