That could make sense of Ricardo Bentonio's claim (28Jan3303) that Aliens Walk Among Us "I have been reliably informed that the Thargoids have been exerting direct influence over human society. Everything that is happening is unfolding according to their plan. Soon, it will be too late!”
so Halsey, Jaques etc may be obeying Tharglet control.....
Perhaps they are not at war with Empire, because they found it could be their best host to take over - autocracy, slaves and all that. Their organic ship design is suspicious anyway.
But as of yet I cannot find any references for him mentioning Oresrians and Klaxians - did the author know these creations were based on fan-fiction from a universe that isn't the Elite franchise? Sources from his book would be most welcome because I'm not paying £5 for an eBook just to control+f to find out.
It's a good book and worth the price. If you don't want to read it fine but please don't make statements about it's content or lack there of if you haven't read it or at least possess it to check. OoTD is an official ED book it was heavily vetted with suggested edits from FD like all the ED books.
It repeatedly mentions Oresrians (42 times) and Klaxians (5), goes into some detail about the Oresrians, their conflict with the Klaxians and interactions between Oresrians and Humans. Their existence is integral to the plot of the book. It ends with the antagonist fleeing toward the Pleiades with the protagonist in pursuit after the human/thargoid base was destroyed.
If you're waiting for FDEV to pop in and verify it's not going to happen, if you don't want to believe there are two branches until you personally see them that makes sense but the background for their existence is not based on non-sponsored fan fiction.
smother them both in garlic mayo and put them on the first negotiating team...
with the message that we're putting a stop to Thargoid settlement in the bubble but Thargs that have lived here for 5 years would not be treated as second class citizens!

Oh thanks Cmdr! I knew I'd seen Oresrians and Klaxians somewhere, but it's over a year since I read OOTD and it didn't spring to mind. Have started to reread the kickstarter books but haven't got to that one yet. Now the question is... is OOTD still canon or was it retconned out? (I keep saying it-I've been totally confused ever since the retcon! )

I have been contacted to "resurrect" the Merope 5c Exploration project . I'm very happy to do so but I'm wondering if I should focus on something/somewhere else rather than just Merope 5c. Do you think it will be interesting to do a reduced version of this? Or create a copy/paster version for other planets?
This time I will also add a sheet or two that any commander will be able to edit in order to share information.
If you have any ideas let me know, I'll try to sort them out the next few days.
Hi Cmdr!
just did a search because I remembered your post but not where/when it was and realised I hadn't replied.
I would be happy to contribute to a Merope search. I think 5C is the object of primary interest due to UPs pointing there, but I think all of Merope should be searched -all landables plus all asteroid rings plus all planetary rings. Also the search should be extended to Maia. It is suggestive that both systems were locked in the beta, and I've always thought it a little strange that Palin settled down there- metathinking suggests to me that FD are sneaky and may well have placed something alien in plain sight so to speak, in the expectation that anyone visiting Maia nowadays will only visit OO or Palin.
I've been waiting one jump away so that as soon as I can download the new update I'll be canyon diving 5C.
There appears to be some confusion with regards to Thargoids now about what is canon and what isn't. It may help to verify which sources can and can't be taken as fact. In the Lavecon video Sandro does not mention two different species, but he does state that the Thargoids that we have now are the same Thargoids as in the original 1984 game. That could mean that the novella Elite: The Dark Wheel by Robert Holdstock (which was bundled with the game) is canon; if so, this has very interesting implications.
That story briefly mentions the Oresrians, but it is the information about the Thargoids that is most interesting. The immature form, known as Tharglets, is described as parasitic. It lives inside a host, and:
The tendrils reaching into the host's brain suggests that they may be able to influence or even control the host.
They could be anywhere. They could be anyone. They could be pulling all the strings, see the silly humans dance!

I wish, place down for the night before I went to bed. Working on a theory if there is some type of receiver on the moon. It must be somewhere that can receive transmissions without being hampered by the fact the moon is tidally locked. That, or it may be in orbit of the moon to receive said transmissions!!!
* well, I assume they wouldn't switch on anything new one day before PS4 players get in, unless they're looking to open new salt mines
It's possible the new content is waiting for someone to stumble onto something in-game, like when someone completed the Ram Tah mission and all the ruins started showing on the scanner. There don't seem many nearby systems to check for permits, so I guess someone has done that already.

I am inclined to agree, they may drip some galnet-based plot thread to uncover the sites (whatever happened to Palins's data?) rather than pinging them into existence with a big signpost when the servers go back up. Whatever they are will be the main mystery content between now and 2.4, so they may intend to keep people busy looking for it.
Course I hope that's not the case so I'll still be checking permit locks as soon as the server is live
Sandro's other comments from one or two E3 interviews hinted at an element of social engineering with UAs and MAs - something that's been lurking away certainly at the back of my mind for a while.
So perhaps UAs are designed to be enticing to us (inside 4th wall: designed by Thargs) specifically to encourage us to spread them
If you don't want Wonder Woman spoilers, don't look in this next blob (sorry if you're on a mobile phone...)
That's a very Aries-like thing to say and think... but it's a pretty interesting take!
I didn't mean to set-and-forget my last post and not contribute anything back... was some interesting thoughts on whether knowing UA's are of Thargoid origin changes anything. I personally think there's some stuff that can be read into it but it's nothing definitive.
- The UA's presumably started clustered around Merope, and subsequently "expanded" to form the shell centered on it... but they point *back* to the Merope star. I still can't make heads or tails of that, or why they dish out ship wireframes in morse (or planet names) based on that mentality. That aside, I get a hunch that Thargoids might be moving into Pleiades, rather than originally being in it. I'm trying to think of "completely alien" ideas, something the FD team keeps harping on about, and so I can't help but think the UA's weren't something launched into the Pleiades like some large, inter-stellar seed pod, and which then "exploded" across the Pleiades... but even then, why? Expansion? A weapon? A delivery?
Also that doesn't explain UPs, or their pointing back Merope 5C, or the octal about the planets. It doesn't fit...
- Anyone remember the asteroid exploding? Nothing known about that still.
- Barnacles still have that marking that most closely (imo) resembles Barnard's Loop (mostly permit locked), and Thargoids have an interest in Barnacles. If Thargoid wrecks have been found on planet surfaces full of UAs, surely there's got to be some sort of connection also between barnacles and UAs (and UPs?)
- I'm still highly suspicious of the Cone Nebula, because <reasons>.
I could easily jump to the conclusion right now that Something something UA is a Barnacle Seed, which provides a fuel source to Thargoids for moving around, but that's too trivial and, imo, inconsequential. We're missing something. Personally I think the asteroid explosion and Wreaken's activity in Col 70 might be part of the "Why", and Jacques, Halsey and the destroyed Federal Capship are part of the What. I'm not prepared to make a connection to the Guardians yet, but that seems implicit in the "third race", though the whole Guardians experience is still a bit sour with me, so maybe it's bias.
