Hello all!

I have been contacted to "resurrect" the Merope 5c Exploration project . I'm very happy to do so but I'm wondering if I should focus on something/somewhere else rather than just Merope 5c. Do you think it will be interesting to do a reduced version of this? Or create a copy/paster version for other planets?

This time I will also add a sheet or two that any commander will be able to edit in order to share information.

If you have any ideas let me know, I'll try to sort them out the next few days.

How's that of a "predicted" system?

Can definitely confirm Thargoids active at the double barnacle site Pleiades Sector LN-S B4-3 C 3 (-13.1, -54.4). Flower ship showed up as soon as I first approached the site in my SRV (I dismissed my ship when I arrived, not sure whether that's important).

Edit: Also wow, that tractor beam or whatever has some grunt to it. By the end of the sequence my SRV was sucked all the way up into the 'goid's backside, which I don't think I'd seen in any of the videos. I kind of thought something special was happening, but no, it just finished what it was doing and dropped me.

Predicted as i assumed a encounter would happen , just like IX system a few days ago, was confirmed before i could post suspicions.
This system i kept quiet since its find 12 hours prior. To get confirmation myself with Cmdr Iureka. That was achieved shortly after i posted and added the locations in this system.and that encounter happened without outside help.
Since it seems now two other encounters have happened for other Cmdrs. Gratz and O7 if was first time to see that. I saw one had been at the other sites for a few days without luck.
Listen to the barnacles. Every little bit of data and info,EVERY bit of data. Barnacles told me. Can't say more, that Shadow Organisation who controls the Feds and Empire maybe listening. Listen to Barnacles ;)

But on the bright side "there’s gonna be a lot of investigation involved" so hopefully we can get this thread back to science :)

I am a bit worried that with all the ... speculation ... on here at least 90% of CMDRs are going to be disappointed when the story evolves :(

They aren't going to please everyone. Whatever happens there will be hot, salty tears from some segment of the fanbase.

But this touches on why I think we're heading into a war whether we like it or not. One of the most common complaints about the game is the surprising lack of danger for a game called "...Dangerous". War with the thargoids could rectify that. Another complaint is that there is a "lack of content". One answer to that would be to introduce a story that players can feel involved in (between lost colonies and generation ships and the Formidine Rift and Galnet there is now plenty of story players can read about but most players still don't seem to feel involved with those stories). Stories need conflict. So again, war with thargoids could be an answer. Peaceful interactions with thargoids are not likely to resolve those criticisms: why would trading/scanning/running missions for thargoids be any more interesting than it already is with humans? Perhaps FDev could make it work but it would be harder and more work than a war.

Of course none of that requires total war with all of humanity. It looks to me like we might end up with a thargoid war with the Federation, the Empire neutral, and perhaps the Alliance allied with the 'goids. Or it could be war between the Feds and the Empire triggered by the appearance of the thargoids. But personally I don't find either of those options as interesting as an all out war for survival. If the war is as easy to avoid as the conflicts in powerplay or the BGS then it'll be disappointing, IMO. The game needs real bogeyman; something ... dangerous.

If you want a partner on that Merope 5c gig, I'm down.

Bit of a cross-post, but DNA-Decay makes a good point that UA interference at stations is at a big low: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/358939-All-Quiet-on-the-UA-front

I wonder what impact this will have on our preparedness (or lack thereof!) when the Thargoids arrive?

Can you imagine if the plot-twist is that UA interference, while disabling stations electrics, actually protects them from Thargoids, much like Walking Dead/being covered in zombie guts?

Canonn won't be in a war with anyone..... Canonn are untouchable.

Feds will be brunt of warringness !! Feds Fluc yeah !!!

Imps will about while trying to mate with a Thargoid so it becomes official.

Alliance will use space botany and drug the Thargoids, maybe hang out a bit, work on some new jams.

Independent factions will be really confused and just panic.

Canonn in the meantime will just monitor the situation and the Thargoids will for the most part let you...... Just don't cross that line !!!

I wouldn't assume Canonn are automatically going to be neutral should hostilities with thargoids break out. Our policy is neutrality in human affairs. Quoting Dr Arcanonn, from https://community.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/5948ed3d6bd599748175404a:
“Rest assured that should the worst happen, should governments fall and our civilisation be shaken to its very foundations, Canonn will stand against the darkness.”
