ED Servers are going down for 2.3.10 at 10:00 BST.

I have just been over to the Elite Dangerous-> News and Updates-> Patch Notes thread and the level of criticism is amazing in the three hours that the thread has been going.

Most of the complainers are PC players. I've only been a member here for a few weeks, and I've already learned to stick to this PS4 section. Everywhere else is full of constant complaining and negativity.

Can we re-name this the positive patch thread?

I have just been over to the Elite Dangerous-> News and Updates-> Patch Notes thread and the level of criticism is amazing in the three hours that the thread has been going.

- People moaning that the servers were taken down too early
- people moaning that the servers haven't been taken down yet (30 mins into the change window)
- people moaning that their previously reported bug wasn't explicitly mentioned in the fix notes
- people moaning that there isn't enough detail on changes to Colonia

Meanwhile, on this thread, everyone is hungry for as much information as possible, happy that one of the known 'big ticket' items flagged as potentially blocking access to the full game is going in early (it all looks positive)

Frontier could have slipped this to tomorrow without anyone (really) complaining as a number of high profile people were returning from LaveCon but they didn't. They have done something above and beyond the previously stated expectation.

Thanks Frontier for the good work

Thanks Brett for keeping the updates coming

We are PS4. We are legion.

And oh my god we are starving for good games.

Also (from experience) even if a PS4 is set to auto download updates, pre-release patches need to be manually triggered with the "check for update" function in the XMB. So spam that options button.

Thanks for the heads up! :)

We are PS4. We are legion.

"We do not forgive, we do not forget"?
I might have heard that motto somewhere... [haha]

What did you expect from the PC section? They'll moan and call FD frauds if they don't get what they want the instant they demand it.

By the way, i was just thinking...

This is an Update that will be made available across all platforms. We already knew about it for a while now.
What about the "Day One Patch"? Is that it or will there be a propper patch, with bug fixes specific to the PS4 platform, planned for tomorrow?

PS4 for President but wait the game is not yet out so at this moment we can't complain Oooo wait wait wait even more, we already did complain a bit about the tearing screen for PS4 and pro .

Million dollar question, m8. I'm sure we're all trying to plan and time manage our launch night, but I'm thinking the healthy thing to do is stay away from update scanning. I propose we set our "get concerned" threshold to at least a few more hours from now.

Aww, our first trust fall exercise with FD. They'll catch us... probably. Like, 70% sure.

hold it, HOLD IT. now everyone take a deep breath...
...and laugh because the pc numpties are crying about something, yet again.

but in all seriousness it shouldn't matter what format you play ED on, as long as you have fun thats all the matters.

normal forum negativity will resume shortly

Yeah, i mean... We all knew the 2.3.10 Update was comming on June 27th to all platforms, since like... almost a month ago.
Now, when i heard of a Patch, i was thinking about the usual PS4 game patch, that fixes bugs and whatnot.
Maybe the Update is the Patch, dunno... We'll wait and see. :p

I'm just wondering if Sony approved a pre-launch patch for the game. I know there's an approval process for any update that changes core game coding, probably to ensure there isn't a change that would affect the systems stability or change network functions that could possibly affect end user data privacy. There have been pre-launch patches before, but then again most games are not "always online" like ED is. My limited peon logic leads me to believe Sony and FD won't want to risk huge day 1 downtime, especially at the risk of creating glaring issues with a game that is so focused on displaying the advantages that upgrading to a Pro model can instantly offer.

Have faith, my friend. At least until we're given evidence to the contrary. Hopefully we'll be celebrating at our respective midnights.

At least release the update so we've got something to do because all this reading about ED and what we can do in the game makes me loco .

Pretty sure the day one patch has always been meant to bring us up to the 2.3.10 build.

It is mainly speculation but the day1 patch and the 2.3.10 patch are different things.

The day1 patch will handle making changes to the ps4 game on your console - things such as communicating back to the back-end servers, screen rendering, controller inputs etc.

2.3.10 is more concerned back end server changes - things such as server load / instancing, database build, feature interworking etc.

With the launch of the ps4 playerbase, FDev look to have taken the opportunity to optimise some of the back-end configuration. It is not beyond reason that both Microsoft and Sony will have been inputting into some of the back-end optimisation customisation to maximise the way that the game plays on both consoles. FDev have said as much.

The linkage that we will have is that the pre 2.3.10 server estate is rejecting connections from non patched games (hence why people with early copies can only play the training missions and challenges). Once the servers are patched to 2.3.10, they will only accept the PS4 client patched to 1.1 (or whatever the day 1 patch renames the app to)

Hope this helps. It is how I have the sequence of events sorted in my head.

Elite's release build is already 1 month old at least, cause they had to send the game code to Sony, for certification, and the master disk for mass printing (Which usually takes place a month before release, or so).
Based on what i've been told by a game dev before, that process is often long and complicated, cause Sony makes a list of all things they want fixed, and sometimes a dev needs to send a game 3, 4, 5 times, until Sony gives the game green light. Then, devs take that whole month until release to work on bug fixes and corrections, to be implemented on a patch, usually by day one (sometimes day zero or -1 or -2) or soon after release. Patch certification takes beetween 1 to 2 weeks on PS4 but i'm sure first party devs have priority.

Day one patches on Online only games aren't unusual.
If my memory's serves me right, both Destiny and The Division had day one patches and they're "Always Online" games.

Hahah, no problem, friend! I have all the faith in the world! It was just a doubt i had, which got me thinking. :D

Cheers! :)

I've seen Day 1s roll in automatically as I was waiting for games to unlock (it just happened last Monday for Housemarque's/Eugene Jarvis' Nex Machina). But as you said, the manual option is excellent as well.
