Maybe that is their sole purpose; finding other crash sites/new bases.
Hear me out, so the goids are ravaged by the mycoid virus/fungus. They crash on random planets as they retreat from our bio-weapon and over time evolve (because they are also bioweapons crafted by guardian genius) an immunity, but in doing so they change their look and their tech.
They slowly start to recycle the biomass of the old crashed ships into new bases and hatch probes and artifacts and ships to look for other stranded remnants.
The UA and UP search the area of the goid path of retreat which happened to be from our bubble through the PLeiades and out to COL for ammonia worlds likely to be safe havens (UP) and for ships (UA), even alien ships seems to just be scanning us....was there a rumour a while back that our ships has some kind of goid technology?
They use the telemetry pulled from all this to map their forces ( the chart in the chamber created by the unknown device) and re-organise.
If we found new a base using info from the UL which seems to be a combination of info from UA and UP (as per the unknown device in the chamber) that would kind of add a little weight to that possibility, right?
There were rumours/thoughts (can't remember if they're in-canon or not) that they're a hive mind. If so, it might stand to reason that they'd each need to know where the other is. It would appear that we're now seeing that in action, and using it to trace them back.
It's just occurred to me, though, that if they use the UAs/UPs/ULs to do this - I hope they're not 'alive' in any way. Or at least, not sentient!
It does kinda look like the egg-sacs share some elements of the 'heads'.
Another thought - I'm getting a pretty bad feeling about the flower ship relationship to the large wreck. I'm not so sure they're on the same side - and that if we keep kicking up ancient Thargoid dust... well you can do the rest
