Who is replacing Michael Brookes?

Choose your own adventure books. Remember those? They were good for one read through.

I sure do remember them, this is my collection which I still have today: :D

The person taking up the role of Elite Dangerous Executive Producer is Gerard, who's been a key member in the team for a long time. The production team remains the same in terms of the experienced stalwarts such as Adam, Eddie, and Sally. The wider development team remains the same too, with names you know and love such as Sandy, Laurence, Dav, Steve K, Dom, and so on!

As for the Dev Update, with 2.4 being very heavily focused on narrative it may transpire that there's not a great deal that can be discussed to the lengths of these blog posts without spoiling large portions of the story and further development of lore. We're, of course, always looking for ways to improve the ways in which we communicate upcoming content so there's a possibility of doing something similar in the future. On this particular point we'll be looking at alternative means as we move forward.

Dev updates don't have to be about stuff that is coming in the most immediate update though. I recall one Dev Update where Michael got us salivating about "The Missing" way back in late 2015-even though the lost Generation Ships weren't found until earlier this year.

Heck, a good Dev Update can even be about a feature that has already been put into the game, as long as it can be the launch point for a high quality Q&A between the Developer & the Fans. For instance, I'd love to have a Dev Update from SJA regarding the AI.

omg Freeway Fighter! I still have lots of these kicking around the house somewhere; I think my editions have waaay cooler cover art than yours. :D All that pre-evil Citadel/Games Workshop scratchy check-pattern superdetailed artwork inside the early series books tho... Thanks for the flashback.

It would be very cool if you could bring the dev updates and the active discussion back post 2.4, when the focus will be fleshing out of core gameplay. If would be great if priorities and changes could be discussed with the community, maybe even in a similar form as in the DDF.

Yeah, I guess what we really want from FD dev updates is talk about anything they work on regarding techologies, new features. I guess that's a major problem, because way it has caused issues in the past - features being delayed, dropped, or heavily modified.

Question is though - has it made anything worse? I think FD has to shrug that past experience off and try to show us some exciting stuff they work on even if they aren't 100% sure it will land soon in the game. I would certainly take Dev updates about * upcoming minor (and potential major) improvements in astro stuff (planet surface improvements, comets, even explaining how current stuff works, like generation of star layer, would be AWESOME) * AI work (give SJA a soapbox, I would LOVE to read update from her about how AI work is done on ED in general) * BGS (enough said, there's still incredible number of people out there saying it doesn't exist) and so on and so forth.

There are A LOT of stuff that can be done via Dev Updates without getting spoilery or promissing any big features you want to keep under the wrap till it gets green ok from release POV.

So yeah, bring back dev updates. Tell juicy details about implementation, and what kind of tech do you use. We all love that kind of stuff.

SO MUCH THIS.

Dale, this is a must have. If your focus is core gameplay after 2.4, you really have to do dev updates with your intentions and plans. Collect feedback early. Let's make Elite great again/greater than ever!

They could do plenty of Dev Updates without revealing even a hint of the 2.4 narrative. Heck, nearly 1 month alone could be spent discussing the new "Search & Rescue" contact, the new "Science & Research" contact & info on the changes to limpets. You could push it out to over 2 months by interspersing it with discussions of the AI & BGS in a post-2.4 environment. You could also have Dev Update "retrospectives" relating to the post 2.1 mission system, & the voice acting for The Missing, The Formadine Rift mystery & Air Traffic Control.....just to name a few. Peaks of the week would be excellent too.

I would rather see what they have *planned*.....even if it doesn't make it into the game *as planned*.....than hear nothing at all.
