It looks increasingly likely that it was we humans that did the wrecking, using the Mycoid virus - in which case, if the Goids are returning, we're in a for a world of pain ;)

Personally I think we can probably rule out the possibility of them ultimately being friendly. Before so long, stuffs going to get blown up.

If I was ammonia based life (goids) and I was going down in my ship due to Mycoid funk, I know I'd pick a system with something ammonia based in it to ditch into.

Hehe, yes. :D

If it's really a general rule that sites are only in systems with ammonia based life/ammonia worlds then we can utilize that in the search. :)

Or they, if they've not yet developed a measure against mycoid/insect spray.

I'm sure the Federation is already building a oversized Fly Swatter to deal with them. :D

Question: Does it matter if the UA and UP I have are marked as 'stolen'?

I took both to an active site last night and for some reason couldn't get a UL from the 'dispenser chamber'.

Or is there a particular sequence of events you need to perform in order to get a UL?

Just floating an idea :

  • All sites are in the UA shell (~125-150 lyr from merope)
  • All sites are near amonia life giants or system with amonia worlds

So...

1) Find system in the UA shell with amonia life gas giant, e.g. ~polar opposite of 14909 wrt to merope.
2) Check for site
3) ...
4) Profit ?

That way we can know if it's just a little cluster or a whole shell of growing giant motherships.
(In which case we better buy extra sets of pants, and ask FD for a new lauderomat internal module)

There's a bug that prevents the player of seeing and being able to interact with them. Relogging usually solves that.

Should spawn when you enter the dispenser chamber when you have UA and/or UP in cargo, if not relog.

EDIT: what is it called ? ninjad :D

Gotta go fast to get them brown pants from the store. xD

Sometimes the spawn of the UL is bugged...just log out and back into private or solo until they appear

No it does not matter they are "stolen", I used mine this way fine. UA and UP have nothing to do with UL spawn as far as I understand. I had to relog to solo to get UL spawn, but then it worked once, I grabbed two and couldn't find more after that, but 2 is plenty enough if you are careful.

So for now we solved UL messages? It contains only coordianates of werk site.
And werk machine contains instruction for ul+up+ua combo for precise search of next werk. Nothing more?
And now in that direction we are going to find all werk sites for futher information.

Wow, so many more sites amazing work team!

An observation:

In the paltry hour and a half i got to play yesterday evening [mad] I decided just to go to Two Quiet Suns site and marvel at the majesty of the more complete sites and those amazing mountainous structures around the centre. Something got me pondering about the actions of the scavengers.

Maybe they are not repairing the sites, the sites are self repairing as has been observed on the Unknown artifact as the cause of the 'techno plague' observed in stations. As has been mentioned, they appear to extracting material from certain damaged areas that often look like weeping lesions, then they do the "shaky shaky" and deposit some liquid like substance on the ground. Perhaps they are extracting the viral tissue, processing it and disposing of it allowing the natural process of Thargoid self repair to kick in. Perhaps this is why these motherships (if indeed they are) 'beached' themselves on high metal content moons so when a rescue party and cure came they would be able to exploit the local non-organic material from the environment.

Do you have to leave the site to log out? (As in clear enough that the FD warning doesn't come up at log out)

Well, you spawn on the outer edges of the site after the relog in your SRV.

Driving out of the site, recalling your ship and flying back into it usually don't take that long.

Alternatively, you can just drive back to your ship, board it and relog then.

Hmm, maybe the UA shell is the Thargoid equivalent of a quarantine zone. IF (big if) all sites are displaying damage/infection inside the zone with a general reduction towards the outer shell, the active sites maybe outside the shell. I shall start some investigating.
++++REP for that thought - as it makes perfect sense to the whole setup !
1. at INRA times Merope 5C was the Tharg center of activities, hence its to be assumed the mycoid virus was deployed there.
2. Mycoid Virus starts spreading out from there, hence with increasing distance density of distribution decreases, leaving in distance of UA shell some remnants (large wreck sites)
3. Thargs establishing a quarantine zone (UA shell) with UA as detectors/EW-system if something infected tries to leave the area and UP monitoring Ammonia-worlds (possible breeding grounds for Mycoid Virus) for changes in atmosphere -> indication for biological activity which might result in a space-faring species that puts a risk of re-spreading the virus?

edit: 4. that also explains why the distance between COL 70 and Merope is used as a "normal" - could be the distance between their local central-hub and their biggest thread - the mycoid....

edit2: logical further approach by humanity should be:
- develope an antidote for the mycoid virus (CG) to offer to the Thargs when finally encounters take place (diplomacy of good-will)
- develope Mycoid-Virus V2.0 in case option 1 fails :)

At what point does this become visible? Is it visible from Orbital Supercruise or do you have to be in real time for it to become visible? I forgot to take note of it when I visited the last one.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact details anymore. I took the pic upon departing from about 4-5km in normal cruise, flying backwards with gears down (AspX is shaking too much otherwise).

O7,
