FDEV - can we have access to Thargoids too please!

I am a little disappointed with Elite right now, in fact that's probably an understatement, maybe I am in the minority here too but im sure you will all let me know in the famous Dangerous discussion but here goes.

So Engineers its great and I find it fantastic that access to level 1 mods are relatively easy, little time input and some marginal gains, if we really want those grade 5 mods we have to work for them, some more than others but you can take it or leave it no big deal.

Those casual explorer gamers unlocking grade 5 DD will hopefully understand the plight of marco qwent, and equally combat pilots the palin 5kly.

But corrosive resistant cargo racks? what the hell were you thinking FD in releasing a Thargoid base there you need a Corrosive resistant rack to transport a probe and UA there to unlock its secrets? this means the thargoids and the whole mystery is locked behind a significant amount of engineer grinding which is apt for grade 5 mods but access to thargoid cut scenes???

and those who say you can do it without the cargo racks, ok... it is possible but if it takes you 3 hours to find a UP and then it corrodes your cargo hatch and flies out in SC while heading to the planet and vanishes into space - in all honesty would you be happy with that as a solution? if ive spent 3 hours finding a UP I want to be guaranteed I can use it!!

I think they need to make corrosive resistant racks more openly available rather than one engineer behind a huge wall so everyone can see the Thargoids from the start rather than having to put in 100 hours of pre work to get a teaser trailer to the thargoids on your own screen without resulting to YouTube, and lets not forget flying around with a UA also increase's the chance of Thargoid flower ship encounters too - its just disappointing new players are missing out and blocked from content

It would be cool if they were available elsewhere, but you don't need one, you can offset the corrosive effects with an afmu.

not totally true, I set the AFMU to repair (constantly repairing it) and left the hatch offline, with the UP & UA both in the hold it dropped below 80% in one malfunction and out popped the UA into SC though "cargo hatch malfunctioned" thankfully it wasn't the probe and I quickly got another UA and still managed to go do the cutscene... but if you lost the UP you would be pretty annoyed and that's when I would argue the racks become a need rather than a luxury, it still kept malfunctioning 2nd attempt but the RNG gods where smiling and let me keep the cargo this time.

exactly happened to me thankfully it was the UA I lost which is easy to obtain again, if I lost the UP I think I seriously would have lost it after spending 3 hours circling an ammonia world :O
 
Totally agree as someone that avoids engineers as rules and only bothered with FSD improvements I'm seriously frustrated at the amount of mind numbing tasks that will be required to get to buy corrosive resistant cargo racks.
I'm currently bored silly just trying to get a sirius permit to unlock an engineer, I forget which one, it's so uninteresting and not what I want to be doing in game :(

It's not like I don't play the game I've got multiple ships including a high spec anaconda and I've got 160M+ in the bank and I've been to Colonia and back, visited all known generation ships, done the ancient ruins mystery, visited all the crashed alien sites and the new alien structure - even got to look inside thanks to someone else opening the door for me, but to see and do more I really need those

My apologies.. didn't know that, it's been a while since I carried a UA or UP without the corrosive resist cargo rack. Just assumed an afmu would have been able to keep pace with the damage... I stand corrected :)

The "Grind" is why they did it, this is what Elite currently is.
Now if they would increase the size of the damn things to say 8 /16 it would still be a grind, but at least you have something for it, but if they did that then the kiddies would be UA bombing every station they could.

Meanwhile the 2.4 patch update meeting on how to implement thargoids is going better than expected - only one monkey defecated in the water cooler today but Maureen from accounts slipped on a banana

You could buy an AFM, and set it to continually repair your cargo hatch.
 
I got there with both a probe and an UA WITHOUT resistant cargo racks, using 1 AFMU, making constant stops for repairs. And when I got there I had them both in my hold and I know a lot of people who did the same with no problems. You just have to be paying attention. No need for the "Grind"
