New schedule. 30th June

Some coloured bars of differing lengths...some text in different colours...no idea what it all means [where is it]

Summary:

"We crossed a really big internal milestone deadline this week. While the playthrough went really well, we identified a handful of bugs that needed to be addressed. Our next Milestone is next week, so we’re pulling the team together to try and knock out as much bugfixing and polish as we can to be able to see how the overall experience is coming together. Although some tasks do come in late in the Evocati window, we may start testing before they are fully complete to get a jump on some of the bigger feature stress testing."

Oh, and 21 elements are delayed by more 1-3 weeks. But big breakthrough! Went really well! Just a few bugs! Almost there!

If they deliver half of this, few moths late I will be happy at this point. Come on RSI you can do it... presumably...

That's a good idea, they could draw up a new plan to deliver half of what they originally intended to release in this plan for 3.0 which itself is a somewhat cut down fraction of what they originally intended to release in 3.0 last year which is a small part of a big game that they originally intended to release years ago. Then, when the new plan inevitably gets delayed they could just draw up a new plan for half of that and nobody could say that CIG ever do anything by half because technically they do fractions of small pieces.

That was more or less sarcastic post, I dont believe they will deliver 3.0 this year. At this point any date posted by RSI means nothing.

Rather than jump on the bandwagon of the general SC depreciation society...I'm quite prepared to wait and see what occurs :p

It's not like I haven't got ED and many other games to play whilst it does or doesn't happen...

Wait.
You just made a "Goodbye folks" post to say you had enough to do in SC to erase ED?

Not how I read it to be honest....

Not how I wrote it either...certainly never mentioned deleting Elite-Dangerous anywhere in there... I don't play it near as much but still do on occasion :)

The post you refer to was also posted on the Xbox forum where I had been a regular poster since GPP, but my attention wasn't on either the Xbox version... or ED in particular as my primary focus...I was either posting screenies of the PC version (which didn't go down well) or mumbling on about SC...neither really fitting for the Xbox section.

Myself and a few ED mates who had switched to PC at the same time got into SC...as many of us here did...quite heavily initially until the baby PU lost it's newness. You can only do so many ICC missions before you get bored.

My posting in the Xbox section, either about the PC version of ED or SC for that matter, was promoting more narky commentary than anything else...I've a lot of friends there from my time on the Xbox and this forum, but decided that my mostly off topic posts weren't in anyone's interest...mine or anyone elses.

Hence the cheerio post.

I still post there on occasion but tend to stick to non platform specific issues...nothing sinister about the goodbye post you refer to at all :p

Interesting latest update from the I-Novae Battlescape team (with regards to network, planetary surfaces, hundreds of players at the same time and collision detection mechanics) that perhaps may be relevant for what CIG is trying to do in 3.0:

https://forums.inovaestudios.com/t/weekly-update-68/5548

Hey everyone it’s time for your weekly update. On the coding side the last week has been pretty productive. Flavien made a good amount of progress on merging the rest of the game with the new networking code. At this point most of the game has been ported except for planets – which is obviously a rather important omission. The reason planets haven’t ported yet is because one last big technical challenge remains.

Previously, before Flavien embarked on rewriting our networking code, all of the collision detection was done on the client. This was pretty straightforward because a player can only ever be near a single planet at any given moment in time so the game only generates geometry for planetary terrain patches that are visible. Unfortunately, as is customary to prevent cheating, we had to move all collision detection to the server during a multiplayer game. The problem is that the server must handle many players, we want to support hundreds, who are all traveling extremely fast around any number of planets. This means the server must constantly regenerate highly detailed geometry for the surfaces of multiple planets just in case something happens to run into it. It gets even worse once you add bullets into the mix.

For more detailed discussion on the Battlescape development, head to that link or you can do it here

Funny thread raging about monetization in one video game while ignoring the view in the mirror https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/6kodwk/cig_please_dont_become_like_frontierdev/

EVERYTHING in SC that can be purchased with money, thus contributing to the further development of the game, CAN ALSO be earned in-game, requiring NO cash purchase at all.

See the difference?

I do not see us being able to earn any paint scheme in-game in Elite, unless I am missing something.

You mean in the distant future, hopefully? With no idea as to the grindwall these ships will be behind? Ships that offer (or will offer, hopefully, in some distant future) a massive advantage? Which can be bought for hundreds of dollars vs the purely cosmetical items that cost a few quid in ED?

Yes, I see the difference. :)
