Seriously, that is exactly the kind of exploration based gameplay i was looking for. I love the feeling to head out of the bubble to some ancient ruins, scan the systems en route, maybe find a few water worlds or even earth likes. Then, once i am in the system, i have to get within 1k ly range of the landfall planets to find out if there are ruins there. After that comes the landing. Every ruin feels different. I had one on the dark side of a planet. In the sky you could see the milky way and nebulae, a ringed planet, and a moon, all illuminated by a red dwarf. That was such an AMAZING atmosphere, driving around these ruins, looking for these artifacts, scanning the obelisks and being awarded for each correct scan with a really interesting piece of lore. And since it also pays well, it also lets me progress in my other projects (like fitting out a fleet of task dedicated ships).
THAT IS FRACKING WONDERFUL!
Which is why it makes me so sad that all this will only be experienced by a small minority of gamers. If you don't know about it, there is no way you learn about it in game, since the only galnet article giving you direction is too old to be accessible in game. If you dock at Meene you get the mission but with no clue what to do. It's also a bit frustrating that the whole mission can not be (realistically) completed on your own without using the excellent online tools. Finding and figuring out 101 different obelisks is just too much, but i understand that this mission is intended as a community effort. But then it would be really nice of have more hints in the game for single players, or at least a tracker of your collected data and the successful combos that unlocked the individual datasets.
So, please FD. You did such an amazing job with this (i didn't try it when it was bugged, so have only positive experiences)!
Here are a few suggestions:
1. Raise some awareness about this mission in GalNet. I.e. make players curious and let them fly to Meene to check it out.
2. Add a list of at least 20 systems with ancient ruins to the mission message and add markers in the galmap. This list should cover sites that contain all 101 datasets.
3. Make new PGed missions, where the objective is to fly to a certain system, find the ruins, and scan a specific obelisk with specific artifacts on board to obtain a specific (mission unique, like with commodities) data set. For each such mission give the player a piece of lore (again, mission unique) in addition to good payout.
Anyway, thank you, FD! Doing this mission is one of the best experience i had in the three year playing ED. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
And to all players who didn't check out this mission so far. Try it!
If you don't know where and how to start, here is a guide.
EDIT: I almost forgot. I didn't hand in the mission yet (still 40 dataset to go), but once i do, i would expect that it unlocks Ram Tah, but i am afraid it doesn't, which doesn't make any sense. It would be great if the completing the mission objective would give me his location, and handing in the mission at this location would unlock him.
