Please help me get my massive Anaconda into that tiny slot

Had the same problem myself. Aim high as others said, but most importantly, DONT GO SLOW. If everytime you slowly passing the slot to figure out whats happening, then THATS the problem. When half your ship have passed the slot, then the rotational correction goes off and the station starts spinning around you, banging you on the slot sides or the grill.

So position your ship on the right height, and move that throttle forward, passing the slot fearless like a pro! Boost before exiting for best results :D

Vaseline, that's what you need. :D

I have trouble with this. The Anaconda's upper hull actually slopes down towards the nose slightly. This does odd things to your perspective since you think you're flying level, but actually you're slightly nose-up and climbing, and then you hit the top of the slot. Just rely on your instruments instead.

The trick is to aim high - when I take my Annie out I find myself ducking as I exit the slot.

Basically, fly as though you're trying to just scrape the paint on the roof.

This... You'll get used to it in about a week when you won't even flinch any long :D

Go into the options and turn the mouse widget on. You will then see where the nose of your ship points to. When heading to the mail slot do not hold the point in the middle. Keep it a little more above. :)

As a rule, the cockpit needs to be almost scraping the top of the mailslot. It goes without saying that slow and steady is the best approach.

The nose has a small 'pole' sticking up from it, keep then as central as possible as you fly towards the mail slot.

It takes a bit of practice, I remember having the same issues.

Wait until you get a Cutter lol

Nah. The Cutter is fairly easy...:x

This. I was looking for the control, but was ninja'ed before I could post it.

The Mouse Widget is great for docking/undocking and general targeting. It's especially useful against unlocked targets.

@Daniel I thought of that - but that's only for entering a station - which strangely I have no problem with. I just need help with getting back out.:)

True. However, entering the station is harder than leaving, since you have to match rotation. You don't have to do that when exit UNTIL your actually in the slot (and usually out before it matters).

Once you get used to how high the computer is aiming when docking, just duplicate that when exiting. That's the best advice I can give, besides the ubiquitous "aim high".

I suppose if you are really having trouble, you could rotate your Anaconda 90 degrees and go out that way. Then just leave closer to the center of the mail slot; you won't get caught on the top/bottom of the slot since you can cleary see that at your left and right side (since you're going out rotated 90 degrees). Try that for exiting and docking computer for entering until you get used to it.

Good luck.

Isn't very cool having it on though, looks annoying :).

I had the same problem at first; it took about a week for me to find an approach that worked. The way I do it is to line up the long leading edge of the hull exactly horizontal with the arrows guiding you out. Also head out fairly fast, 65 m/s at least. If you go too slow, the back of the ship will get caught in the slot due to the station's rotation.

Enjoy your new ride, commander.

Get a docking computer, go out of the station and watch the ship position as you enter. Then sell it and try to match that positioning as you dock manually.

Best to scrape your head on the top of the mail slot with the Conda.

Aiming high is important. What I do is use the nose of the Annie as my guide. Try to keep the edges of the nose lined up inside the glowing arrows on the sides of the wireframe of the mailslot exterior. Imagine you're sheathing a sword. This let's me glide right out every time.

Weird thing with flying the Conda in and out. When I first got mine, I got stuck several times and only just managed to get unstuck before the station lasers opened up.

Then I got the hang of flying it in high in the slot.

Now I seem to be able to fly it in at almost any old angle and height, with only an occasional scrape.

It's as if the ship is now smaller - or the flight model is fussy at the beginning, but then doesn't bother paying attention.

Or I'm an ace pilot, which doesn't seem very likely at all.

Are some entrance slots taller than others?

As has been said more than a few times - getting the Anaconda out of the mailslot is a little tricky - I've lost count of how many times I've bumped my head on the way out. The top of the ship is much flatter than it seems and the bottom much larger. Just take it slow and easy and you'll be zipping in and out before you know it.

If you find yourself stuck and about to be blown up by the station log off. When you come back you should about 10km from the station.

As others have said, when leaving thrust up from the pad until you're level with the slot. Aim high in the slot, like you're going scrape the roof of the bridge against it. The deck of the Anaconda slopes down from the bridge, straight ahead is slightly above the pole at the end of the deck.

With a ship the size of the Anaconda it's very difficult to thrust forward from the pad and arc through the slot.

Takes a bit of practice, but soon enough you'll be boost drifting it in sideways with your hair on fire. [cool]

You shouldn't attempt to go through the slot with your landing gear down.

Always go through the slot horizontal. When you take off, retract your gear straight away and only use your vertical thrusters until you're level with the slot, then roll to bring the slot horizontal.

Use the mouse widget to put the dot in the middle of your screen, which will show you when you're level with the slot.
